You are loved. You deserve everything. Just like everyone else. I am an Adult Survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse (as the experts call it) and also physical, emotional and mental abuse and neglect. I had to cut all ties with all my blood relatives for my own safety and my own sanity. I have the most amazing (male) life partner (we've been together for more than 17 years) and he is my rock and he is my home and he makes me feel safe. So I know exactly what you mean about never feeling safe, because I never knew what safety or love meant until my partner painstakingly took the time and put in the effort to win my trust and show me that yes, someone can love you unconditionally and can catch you when you fall. Kudos to you for using your platform to bringing more awareness to mental health! This particular song by TLC has always been meaningful to me and it's my fav song by them. It became even more special when the lyrics of the main chorus was used as a plot mechanism in the Netflix TV series The Umbrella Academy, which both my partner and I love and now we always giggle to each other whenever the main chorus lyrics come up. Even if someone hasn't heard the song, they probably have seen the line of "don't go chasing waterfalls" somewhere.. it pops up all the time in a humorous way. Not quite the original message, but it's impressive the song was so good that it'll probably live forever in pop culture.

Their is a big part of history with this song as well. Waterfalls (Released in 94) was the very first song that actually said HIV. The Epidemic started in 1981, and while their has been songs that was vague about it during the 80s. It took T Boz, Left Eye, and Chilli for a song to directly say it.

Great reaction, it's interesting how children especially boys grow up believing they have to measure up to our parents, when your dad wasn't there it had absolutely nothing to do with you but his own inability to love himself and fearful you'd see him as he sees himself. Dad didn't love himself didn't feel loved and afraid he'd fail so fulfilled the prophecy without even knowing that's exactly what he was doing..Moms & Dads are children either facing or not undealt with childhood traumas.
