Hi Travis and Suzi! So, I was digging around for some more exciting organ music for Suzi, and I came across this performance of an organ Toccata, usually played by solo organ, in a version for organ and orchestra. If I’m being totally honest, I picked this because it has lots of those plagal (you know, “Ahh-men”) cadences that I have such a fetish for, especially from 4:18 until the end. However, I should point out that the very last cadence, played very loudly, is what’s called a perfect authentic cadence, which is ubiquitous in 99.44% of Western music. This is the Toccata for Organ and Orchestra by Charles-Marie Widor (sharl mah-ree’ vee’-door)

This is one of the best organ music parts there has ever been composed. See how "Kalevi Kiviniemi" plays it with Rouen Ouen Cavaille-Coll organs - maybe the greatest organ in the world (if not Notre Dame). Its speciality is the tonal structure and discussion with Widor and God himself... In Rouen organ the "God voice" is the deep crowl of the grand organ pedal stop of Contra Bombarde 32' - which shakes the building and can be heard in the heaven too.

My favorite Widor piece is his sixth symphony for Organ, especially if played in St Ouen Rouen on that most powerful Cavallié Coll organ for which that piece was composed. -that sixth symphony rivals Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, to me at least. Wodpr used to be the provisionary St Sulpice church's organist for decades ! YT has a recording of Widor playing his Toccata on St Sulpice organ in the 1930s; sure the recording is not the best quality but it's from the era and the composer himself. According to that recordging, what you hear in this video is much too fast.
