Tom Petty was a masterful songwriter, musician and producer, which is apparent in this song as well as in his entire body of work.
This marks a big change in Tom's career, and life. This is a solo album and, although some of The Heartbreakers play on it, this gave him the freedom to reflect and express himself without conditions imposed by others. It's a beautiful album and a stunning statement by someone who was tired and looking for change, and the truth.

The album reminds me a lot of Dylan's "Blood On the Tracks" - it feels like it's very personal, as if he was at a crossroads in his life/career and wondering where to go next.

Petty’s “Nebraska.” Stripped down, freed himself of band and label constraints, spoke to the heart and used such beautiful words to do it. I think as an album, it’s his best work. It’s hard to be this genuine and sincere and still sound cool instead of corny. Really, really, hard.

I only recently learned that Lindsey Buckingham did background vocals on that song.
@caps689Ай бұрын
@@ChrisW-17 Buckingham also did the arrangement for the background vocals. Petty said during this period he asked Lindsey if he wanted to co front The Heartbreakers with him since he was tired of being the lone front man. If he'd said yes Stevie probably would have killed them both. It's a shame the song got lost on a soundtrack for a small movie that even missed it's release date so the song released w/o the movie.

This title song was opening song, set the mood, no bad songs on it. New videos of the new release songs are on KZbin. .
