The lead vocalist has three other successful bands he tours with, he has an award winning vineyard and wine (Caduceus) and he's got a black belt in JuJitsu. His name is Maynard James Keenan. (Freddy Mercury is not as far off as you think. Check out his other band Puscifer. They did the best version of Bohemian Rhapsody there is. Intentionally goofy video but just check out the audio version.) The band itself is one of the greatest bands to ever live. All incrediblly talented musicians in their own right. Welcome to the Tool army homie. I listen to hip hop heavy too but metal is fire too bro. Great reaction. Typically, their music videos are kinda abstract and have little to do with the music. I used to work at a carryout and this older dude used to walk up there all the time and buy beer and just small talk. Great dude. Anyway he was a chef at this nearby convention center/arena and Tool played there once and he said Maynard had a super strict list of foods and ingredients he would and would not eat. It was supposedly because he was extremely conscience of a diet that nurtured his voice. That always stuck with me. Can't help but appreciate someone so dedicated to their craft.

Just to let you know, that wasn't a guitar solo, it was the bass.. I know, I know, I was blown away too when I found out. Anyway, TOOL is a progressive rock/metal band from the 90s and they were and still are huge! There is no one that sounds like them. No one! Maynard James Keenan is the singer and he is in 3 bands: TOOL, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer (his own side project). Maynard has also acted in films: Crank 2 and another one where he was a cop (can't remember the name). Maynard is also a hands-on wine grower in Rome AZ (he owns Merkin Vineyards & Caduceus Cellars) and he also owns a restaurant there as well. Maynard's singing style range is incredible! He is so convincing, no matter what the style of music he is singing in. This is not the case with most rock singers who cannot stray far outside their rock genre.

I had the same reaction when I first heard MJK. "Who IS this dude?!" 😄He would take that Freddie comparison as a great compliment, for sure. Can't go wrong with Tool. And since you mentioned Freddie, you gotta do Puscifer - Bohemian Rhapsody. Same singer, different project/band. Knocks it out of the park imo. Definitely does the original justice. In fact, I don't know many projects that MJK touches that aren't good. Man's got impeccable musical tastes. Huge catalog, lots to choose from. Some of my favorites are off the albums "10,000 Days", and "Lateralus" by Tool, "Mer de Noms" and "Thirteenth Step" by A Perfect Circle, and ""V" is for Vagina" and "Conditions of My Parole" by Puscifer. 🤘🤘🤘

First lyrics (of any music, ever) that I remember really hitting me… first lyrics I ever felt in my bones was like 7th grade: “…praying for rain. I’m praying for tidal waves. I wanna see the ground give way. I want to watch it all go down”. GenX anthem. Instant Tool fan and it only got better and better over the next 30 years. Deep dive into Tool (don’t watch the videos but DO pull up lyrics) and their army will follow. Those four men are all musical geniuses and have arguably written some of the best pieces of music EVER composed. Each member is the BEST at what they do. They are in a category all their own.
