I've been a "metal" drummer since 1984 but after my first 12 years, I decided to take some lessons. My teacher put on TOP and said play to this. I was blown away and it changed the way I played forever. He then put on some Toto and I went from just a "metal" drummer, to a drummer. 30 years later, I still incorporate funk/fusion/jazz licks in metal songs. I'll always have a soft spot for TOP! I owe them so much.

That's what I love about some metal drummers. They get groovy.

Funk and metal share a lot of the same musical DNA if you really break them down, it's not too surprising that a metal drummer with a good ear can fall into/understand the concept of "groove" and apply it well to their playing.

I remember Tower of Power coming from the lowriders when I was around 12. Tower of Power was a neighborhood favorite. I loved them. "So Very Hard To Go" is one of my favorite songs and it's on my "Life Soundtrack" playlist. "You Ought to be Havin' Fun" is a fun party song.

The point of the song is that trying to be "hip" changes constantly so you just be you. That will not change! Asia, I think you have one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen. Every time I watch one of your videos that seems to be the one thing I notice every time. You be you, girl!

Glad to see the studio version being reviewed. Too many reaction vids using a disco-era version with a lead singer who may have been good for disco, but ToP was NOT a disco band. You ought to hear what they sound like NOW, 50 years after that song came out. They're tighter now than they ever were. I know - I've been listening (and attending their concerts) the whole time.
