His name was Mic Gillette, he doubled on Trumpet and Trombone. He passed away from a heart attack about 4 years ago. He was such a Great Person and very approachable RIP Mic

The trombone and trumpet/flugelhorn player is the Bay Area Legend Mic Gillette. Was a child prodigy who could play trumpet and read music at 4 years old. Played with TOP , Doobie Bros., Santana, and Sons of Champlin. Later spend countless hours helping young musicians. A great musician and human being.
@tpgxyz7772 жыл бұрын
Before he played with TOP he was in Cold Blood. Mic Gillette (RIP) was one of a kind. People don’t understand the difficulty and rare talent to be able to play Trumpet AND Trombone. I was glad I got to meet and talk to him in Reno at a show he was playing…

Best band in the land for more than 55 years….that’s right, 55 YEARS! That lead singer in this video is my good friend, Larry Braggs (a/k/a LB), who fronted the band for more than 14 years before joining the Temptations, and there’s four original band members on that stage!

Hey Guys, The good news is these guys are still recording and touring at this level and if you go to their website you can find when and where they will be in your neighborhood! I highly recommend you guys take the whole band to check these guys out because they are the epitome of stone cold pros. They don't make mistakes and this is how they perform live. I have seen them multiple times and its just like this video. Emilio "Mi Mi" Castillio is the older dude who was on the mic with their former lead singer Larry Bragg. Emilio is a founding member as is the baritone sax player Stephen "Doc" Kupka and the drummer David Garibaldi. A number of the original band members have died or are no longer in the band so don't wait too long or you will regret it! Cheers, Pete St. John Clovis, CA

You should listen to this other track of them: “Boys of the Bay” a lot of horns and very intense! Cannot believe the audience is not moving, such stiff people! You think you have seen the guys blowing the horn, wait until you listen to “Boys of the Bay”

Tower Of Power is one of the greatest hands to ever do it! The "Soul Power" breakdown is the James Brown hit from 1970. The guitar line from this was originally done by Phelps "Catfish" Collins.

Agree with everyone - you have to see it in '73 to realize just how bad-ass it was in its time. Also, the song doesn't exist without that bassline, but I've NEVER seen the bass player get any camera time. Criminal.

Going strong since 1968. The Funky Doctor, Doc Kupka, is noticeably absent from this performance. That mad low "scoop" of his baritone sax is silent, though his hat is there. A TOP show is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. The only place I will be seen dancing in public.
