"Somewhere between the sacred silence and sleep.....disorder." Here's my take on it. I feel "sacred silence" means where we are prior to being born..."sleep," I think means death...which would mean that life=disorder.

I alwats interpreted it as the sacred silence being the time before you are born and the sleep being death. So the chorus is essentially saying somewhere between birth and death lies chaos/disorder.

system only has 1 solo that i can think of in their whole discography. some sub genres of rock, like new metal typically dont play solos. instead they use breakdowns. this is normally when the song slows down and gets extra heavy. after byob, react to sugar and wait for that breakdown

Silence is sacred because it speaks loudest. Evidently, there's not much silence in LA. I think silence represents peace & quiet. Somewhere between that & disorder is the toxicity of the city. "When I became a son, I sung right into a man's HEART!" idk why but, I LOVE that line

I've always thought about some of the lyrics in this song. "Eating seeds is a pastime activity" Makes me wonder if they are talking about RSA in Hollywood. It's like they were sending out a hidden message.
@christopherchandler2860

so I read an article one time about this song and they talked about the " eating seeds" part, in Armenia, where most of the band is from, sunflower seeds are like a national snack. So folks just sell seeds on every corner and they are just sitting around munching on them. true story, look it up

The band is called System of a Down for a reason... Each lyric is a message about this self destructive world and society we live in.. the melodic instrumental followed by sudden pace changes transitioning back into the melodic stage in itself is a message.. and it's simple it represents the calm before the storm and then the change that comes when the storm has passed but after that transition sheds a calming bright light that sudden jump into chaos and darkness comes back around... They're actually genius with their music and meaning and how they relate the two.. aggression comes after something else has died down.. life is a cycle of the self destruction in humanity and system of a down is probably the best band in expressing that fact... Not necessarily the best band in the world but nobody can copy them or do better at what and how they do what they do
@jasonwall1995

@@christopherchandler2860 Double entendre in my opinion. Just like: "Looking at life through the eyes of a tired hub", is how the lyrics are listed. But to me, I believe he says "Looking at life through the eyes of a Tyrant" Who eats seeds. (Abusing children) If you couple that with the "Software Version" line. Knowing that pedophile actions has exponentially risen since the advent of the internet, it all makes sense. Want more? Ok. One of the horrible thing that happens to children who are abused, is the fracturing of their psyche into disassociative personalities. That is a "DISORDER". But if you know about children who have been traumatized, which I do because I was beaten as a child. You look forward to sleep. Because in your dreams you aren't in your life. And you become an introvert. Not talking or trusting anyone. So, "somewhere between the sacred silence (where you go into your own world) and sleep, (where you can dream of not being in your horrible reality) comes the abuse. (DISORDER) Where you feel owned. But how can you own disorder. Even speaking of "Flashlight reveries" maybe the victim thinking of being rescued to no avail. These are things that have many many victim accounts of in Hollywood. To come right out and say it could kill a person or group both metaphorically and literally. So SOAD used a metaphorical song to express their distain without commiting career suicide. Disclaimer: These thoughts are my own and are not sponsored or reflected by either the band itself nor the reactor on this channel, KZbin or the music distribution group. Once again, just my interpretation based on personal experiences and 20+ years of research into topics of a similar nature.

SOAD is an Armenian-American band from California. California has the largest Armenian population outside of Armenia. This song speaks about the turmoil and oppression of Armenian’s back in their country. Toxicity is about your poisonous content. Your personal level of toxicity. But toxicity doesn't necessarily mean the toxicity of a person. It can be the toxicity of a city, state, and/or nation. It's just toxicity in general that is encompassing in all of us.
