Ultravox we’re a great band, so many great songs “Reap the Wild Wind” “Hymn” “Dancing With Tears in My Eyes” “The Thin Wall” to name a few

Ultravox is that you?! ❤️❤️❤️❤️I have the ALBUM Rage in Eden it is probably worth some money now! Of course I won't sell it! Yes, I do like The Thin Wall, it's on that album. Maybe Vienna is too, it sounds familiar, I haven't heard it in a long time, I was a teen when I got it in the 80s! Love you so much,💓💝❤️🌹💖💜🤍

Lament is an excellent album. In my opinion their best in the same way Joshua Tree is U2's best one: it simply has a great production and is more even than the rest.

An absolutely iconic British song from the 80's. Midge Ure, the lead singer, devised Live Aid with Bob Geldof. My favourite song of his is called Cold Cold Heart. Be careful if you want to check it out, there are LOADS of songs with this title

Apparently when the band were writing the music to the song Midge Ure (The lead singer/lyricist) apparently didn't really get what the band was trying to achieve with the classical romantic feel of the orchestration and said "This means nothing to me"... and the producer said "Sing that then."

This song came out in 80 when I was still in single figures.a classic tune to start the 80's the party was populated by new romantics. The lead singer is midge ure who helped write the Ethiopian charity single do they know it's Christmas- band aid which came out in 84 the year before USA for Africa.he also helped organise the live aid concert in 85 to get more aid to Ethiopia.

Two stages of Ultravox. Before Midge Ure and after he joined. Most the the synth soulful stuff is after Midge Ure joined. Dancing With Tears In My Eyes, Reap The Wild Wind, The Voice, The Hymn - all great tracks to follow up this classic, Vienna.

Beautiful song. I feel so lucky to have grown up in the 80s and 90s. Music today, I like, but it does feel like it's just trying to mimic music of my era. Which is kinda fun. But when you hear the originals back, I am lucky enough to feel the nostalgia that goes with them. Happy days.

Apparantly there is no back story to why Vienna means nothing to Midge, that lyric just fitted the tune. I love that he’s honest about that and doesn’t make up a “deep and meaningful” about it!

This was a huge hit across Europe in the year 1980 but was only heard on what would today be called "indy" radio in the US. Their only radio hit in the US that I remember hearing was "Reap the Wild Wind" from 1982. I suspect Americans would have liked their 1981 song "The Thin Wall" (my stadium rock-loving brother loved it), but it was never a hit in the US either. An earlier incarnation of the band with singer John Foxx put out one of my favorite Ultravox songs, "Slow Motion" from 1978, and John Foxx's solo career also produced a few pioneering synth/technopop hits in Europe, notably "Underpass" from the year 1980. Some members of Ultravox joined with a few other technopop types to form a fashionista band called Visage that had a huge 1980 hit in Europe with "Fade to Grey," which I suspect you would really like.

I like the song, but I‘m used to listening to 80s New Romantic sound. I think it was their first hit, but „Hymn, The Voice, Reap the wild wind, Dancing with tears in my eyes, One small day, We came to dance“ showed how the group improved

Best song that was never a number one, it was a travesty that beat it to number one the second time (the first I got with John Lennon Imagine just after he got shot dead at the time) but that Shuddap Ur face what a crap song. You should react to this song when Midge did this live with Schiller, gives this song even more life.
