This came out in '78, and blew everyone's mind. This is Edward Van Halen, who is considered one of the best to ever played - maybe second only to Hendrix. This riff is actually just two basic chords (Am/G), picking over the individual notes. BUT, it's how he plays it that makes it so amazing. This style was unheard of in the 70's, and spawned tons of imitators in the 80's.

this came out in 78!? Damnnnnnn. Was he the first guy to do this kind of guitar playing then?

@@SephPlays There were a lot of great guitar players in the 70's that hinted at some of what EVH did, but no one had a sound like that, or played with so much fire, fluid dexterity and fun. He has a short solo piece on the first album "Eruption" that many couldn't believe it was even a guitar, or knew how it was done.

That's what we called music back in the day. Brothers Alex (drummer) and Eddie Van Halen (lead guitarist) are the founders of the group. We lost Eddie just in the last couple years due to cancer. RIP Eddie

If you love guitar solos, you gotta react to Eddie Van Halen, Eruption solo, live without a net version in 86. There's so much tapping and everything else that you'll go nuts over.

This guy is gonna fall down this rabbit hole and get so hurt. 😂 Dude, just react to Eddie Van Halen, Eruption solo, live without a net version in 86. You have to start there to be set on the right track.

He was 65. And yes, he was the G.O.A.T. Plus, check out his live 5150 solo from New Haven, Connecticut. From 1986. You won't be disappointed. "Live Without a Wire".

Eddie is credited with popularizing the 2 handed tapping technique. He did not”invent” tapping but revolutionized it a turned it into what it is today. He is considered one the the greatest rock guitarist of all time. IMO only he and Jimi Hendrix changed the way people thought of what could be played on the guitar and created a whole new genera and style of not only guitar playing but of music and song writing. He is also the first to “hot rod” his guitar. He created his own guitar combining the body of a strat with the electronics ( pick ups) of the Les Paul. He also integrated the whammy bar dive mob technique into his playing and was the first pro player to use a Floyed Rose locking tremolo system. Hope you enjoy a deep dive into the mighty VH the greatest rock band of the late 70’s through 2015 their final tour. Cheers

You GET IT!! Yours was the reaction everyone had when we heard him for the first way back in 1978. I was just out of high school and he proceeded to blow my mind with his guitar tone and skills. You're going to enjoy your journey through their awesome music catalog. I look forward to seeing your future. Rock on, dude! 💥🔥😎

I love your reaction to the beginning of the song. VH knew exactly how to start a song with powerful guitar rifts and get you going immediately, you'll notice that in virtually every song. If you love guitar solos, Eddie VAn Halen was the best, he was definitely revolutionary and cutting edge at the time, ERUPTION was a famous solo that lead into a cover of Pretty WOman. His opening rifts to every song he created were INCREDIBLE! The opening rift to this song is one of my all time FAVS as well Seph, so glad you appreciate it! It IS mind a blowing, adreneline pumping opening. You could literally link VH openings one to another and go for a RIIIIIDE!!!

You have such a broad musical palette. I imagine the Venn diagram of those who love Elvis, Depeche Mode, Michael Jackson, Dimash, and Van Halen is very small. In the comments below you talk about how closed minded you were to other types of music when you were younger. And now look at you. Incredible!

Ever since i started making these reaction type videos, i have discovered a part of me that i didn't know existed. 20 year old me would be laughing at me now for liking *Old/Classic* music. I was so closed minded back then that if i heard anything that sounded even remotely *Dated* on the radio I would change the station. I actually cried not too long after starting this channel because hearing Elvis and Depeche mode really made me realise i had been missing out all my life. Since then i have branched out a lot, i have listened to Many great groups and singers, queen, beatles, beegees, roy orbison, beach boys, bon Jovi, George michael, abba, and a whole of a lot more 😍 Doing this has changed my life. And thats only one aspect. It has also allowed me to meet amazing and interesting people like you ❤️

@@SephPlays Watching your personal growth has been a real thrill. In some ways it reminds me of perhaps my favorite documentary series. It's a collection of British films called 7 UP (14 UP, 21 UP, 28 UP, 35 UP, 42 UP, 48 UP, 56 UP, and 63 UP) where the film makers document a group of 7 year old boys and girls starting in 1964 and then follow-up with the same individuals every 7 years for their entire lives. You may have seen it on BBC television. I recently turned my parents on to it and they absolutely loved it. The growth you have shown with your musical exploration here, albeit over a much shorter timeframe, has been similarly fascinating because of the approach you have taken traversing select artists' catalogs in chronological order, and the unique circumstance of your isolated music consumption over your life, and special emotive and communicative qualities you possess, and the grace in which you have cultivated a community of followers. Thank you for this. I really can't get enough and fortunately you have over 1000 videos which I am steadily consuming, learning more about you in every one. After we exchanged messages the other week I started working on some playlists of the best songs that I've heard over my life. It's something that I've wanted to do ever since I heard Bill Maher talk about how he curates his iPod with only his favorite songs. It's a big project and a work-in-progress, but one that is so fulfilling. Below is a link to my public KZbin Music Playlists. I have prefixed "Seph" to the ones that were intended for your consumption, which is pretty much all of them. These playlists will grow and become consolidated to the decade buckets 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s. There's already a lot here that you might be interested in listening to. Feel free to enjoy it as I continue to create and refine it. music.kzbin.infoUCMmTmhlsiRlraPscMLEapaQ

Yes, the riff is definitely epic! Eddie was so far ahead of his time, it sounded like something from outer space! This was released in '78, but you're right, he definitely influenced grunge in the '90s and also hard rock in the '80s. To this day, he still influences rock guitarists around the world. Truly one of a kind visionary guitar legend, and was so humble about it, too. Even did the riff to Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' without getting paid for it. And it was the guitar riff that was sampled from VH's 'Jamie's Cryin'' that was used in Tone Loc's ''80s hit 'Wild Thing' (without VH's permission, but it was settled out of court)...Other great songs of Van Halen: 'Unchained,' 'Everybody Wants Some,' 'Hot For Teacher,' 'Panama,' and their big pop hit, 'Jump.' He is a huge loss to the music world but will always be remembered. #RIPEddieVanHalen
