Individually, I've heard Scott Weiland on a few Stone Temple Pilots tracks, and of course Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum from Guns & Roses. And having talked with Myles Kennedy extensively in a tea time about his offer to front Velvet Revolver and turning it down, it's just been an itch I knew I needed to scratch at some point. And here we are! What a rollercoaster this one is!

I quit drinking recently because it nearly killed me. My liver started failing and I couldn't urinate. I spent three days in the hospital. After that I was making monthly visits to the hospital after bingeing so I could get ativan so it could ease my hangovers. They were getting so bad I was getting very scared I was on my way out. I checked myself into rehab, and I'll be at 90 days sober tomorrow. The lyrics to this song are so incredibly real to an addict.

I relapsed on drugs and alcohol in the summer of 2021.Shame kept me from interacting with anyone in person so my friendships were all online. Isolation is the one thing I think most all addicts can relate to. June 6th of 2022 I entered the Life Recovery Program at the Union Gospel Mission and have been clean for 2 years 9 days. I am now a peer counselor and work with others that struggle with addiction. This song is a reminder for me, how things were and where I never want to go again.

The members of Velvet Revolver had been through wild bouts of drug addiction and alcoholism which in many ways were the byproduct of the rock stardom they experienced with their previous bands (Scott Weiland was ex-Stone Temple Pilots; Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum were in Guns N' Roses). "Fall to Pieces" relates to their tribulations, specifically those of Weiland, who wrote the lyric. He said the song deals with two issues: 1) Coming to terms with his heroin addiction. 2) His relationship with his second wife, Mary, which was falling apart. In both cases, Weiland felt like he was "falling to pieces." Source Songfacts

Slash has an amazing ability to weave his guitar around the vocals in a way that almost makes it another voice. Not quite a harmony, but a counterpoint. When I was in music school, I learned the language to speak of things I only intuitively knew, but couldn't put into words. I imagine his guitar like a dragon flying around the serpent of the vocal line. They dance around each other and it's wondrous to behold.

You hit it on the head when you described the sound of Scott's voice and Slash's guitar. The guitar is the feeling of flying when using and the torture in Scott's voice is life falling to ruins because of it. Drinking and drugs are death to those of us with the disease of addiction. I would love it if you could check out Duff McKagan (their bass player) his solo music. I'd be interested to see what you think of his voice. It's been a rough ride as a fan of all these grunge bands, seeing so many of the singers leave us. What's worse, I remember all the criticism they took for being miserable and having depressing lyrics. Well, yes. They were depressed and using music as a release. That's not to say the choice to get help isn't ultimately their own, but compassion would be more helpful than judgement. I read Scott Weiland's book 'Not Dead and Not for Sale' shortly after his passing and the disappointment he felt in himself for never staying clean was heartbreaking.

God i love this song. pure catharsis. The dark lyrics we can all relate to, along with a soaring melody that still gives us hope. i was fortunate enough to see VR perform live in Philly. Scott was magical, Slash and the band on fire. it still ranks among my favorite concert experiences.

I've been listening to Slash most of my life, GnR, Slash's Snakepit, Velvet Revolver, with Myles Kennedy (Anastasia is highly recommended) and his colabs with many other musicians. He puts so much emotion into his playing, and along with Scott he brings out such a strong sense of longing and hope in this song, one of my favourites

Ian Thornley, of Big Wreck and Thornley, was contacted twice by the guys forming Velvet Revolver to try out. The first time he declined because he was working on a Thornley album. The second time was after Scott was fired. He went and jammed with the guys and had a good experience but management wanted him to front with no guitar. He says maybe when he was younger but now set in his ways he didn't want to ditch the guitar. In retrospect he's never wanted to be "that guy" and isn't the 'peacock' type. He never set out to sing and didn't know he could sing like he does. Coincidentally his good friend Myles Kennedy was also asked to try out but now plays on occasion with Slash. It's a small world!

I am a bass player in a rock cover band. I spent most of my life depressed and insecure which lead to drug abuse that nearly killed me and lead to poor health now. Fall To Pieces has been part of our set list for a few years now. More often than not I cry during the song. It is mostly cathartic as I cry because the tears are for my past search for a total blockage of feeling and and being grateful for recovery and also for those who never made peace with themselves and ended it all.

Yeah, we all know Slash is great, but don't discount Duff McKagan's contribution to the music. He really fills out the songs he works on. And not just by playing the guitar. Scott's singing on this song is just so emotional. Heart rending.
