Geoff actually has a video instructing how to sing low. Geoff can hit these notes even without a hammer and sitting down.. I hope you stick with VP and Geoff has his own channel.

Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voice Play are the holy trinity of a capella. They all know each other. Tim, Avi, and Geoff are all friends and have sung together. A lot of us knew about a capella because at some point we were in a glee club or chorus. We were ruined early.

I've been watching VoicePlay for a long time now. I found them by watching their Tennesse Whisky after seeing Chris Stapleton's version. The harmonies and bass voice of Geoff blew me away and I've never looked back. Of the three main acapella groups I love these guys best because of their versatility. They can cover so many genres and do all the work themselves. The vocal percussion/beatboxer is Layne Stein. Apparently he has bars too. If you really want to know how Geoff sings so low, check out his videos on How to Sing Low.... Geoff Castellucci :)
@janetdw2 жыл бұрын
The bass, Geoff Castalucci, considers himself a baritone with bass training. He wanted to be a rock tenor. He and the beat boxer, Layne Stein provided vocal percussion. Eli, the bald “scary looking” dude toured with a hard rock band for years. To really appreciate Geoff’s low notes, you might check his private channel and his cover of Far Over the Misty Mountains cCold from the Hobbit. It is the dwarves song just before they re-enter the mines of Moria. He likes to arrange four part harmonies for himself and sings all four parts and appears as all four singers. This is probably their most epic performance to date. They don’t always dress in costume but when they do, it’s usually pretty amazing. I didn’t think they could top their cover of Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3 but this one beat it out. You might want to look at VoicePlays’s cover of Carry on my Wayward Son from Kansas for more of a rock sound. Layne and Geoff really do a great job of performing the vocal percussion and replacing the instruments. Another where they really shine is in their newer cover of Dream On by Aerosmith. It is sort of a follow up to their cover of Warriors by Imagine Dragons, which was used in a League of Legends tournament. They both have the same post apocalyptic feel.

Hello it seems to me that you have confused the beatbox with the bass voice. The beatbox is called Layne: it was on the right in the image with a beast skin. You missed his performance because you looked elsewhere to talk to us. Geoff Castelluci, with the hammer, does the bass voice. Listen to "my mother told me" or "hoist of the color" "don't talk about bruno" always with voiceplay or Geoff alone, in "16 tones" or "ain't no sunshine" to start. Kind regards

The guy with the deep base is called Geoff Castalucci- and what he did during that performance is nothing compared to what he can do / already has done. I recommend you watch "Aint no sunshine" done by him or Hoist the Colours from Voice play. Both show him off very well

I always LOVE seeing someone new discover Voiceplay! Yes, they are acapella like Home Free. But Voiceplay are like the theater kids of Acapella. Enjoy your trip down this rabbit hole! If you want to see serious magic from these guys, check out their covers of Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean, We don't talk about Bruno from Encanto, or maybe Butter (BTS cover) or Bang. These guys are brilliant! Geoff Castellucci (the bass singer) has his own channel...and you will absolutely faint when you hear some of the low notes he can hit. He is the human subwoofer. :) Hint: He doesn't need a hammer. He's just magic.

Voiceplay is my very favorite acapella group. One of my favorite things is to watch a reactor see and hear them for the first time, because I know what's coming. After you react to Man in the Mirror and Butter, check out their newest release, Dream On (Aerosmith). The lineup has changed in the last two years, one member left for personal reasons, a second left to join the US Navy and sing with them. This video has the current lineup with a featured artist joining them. And Geoff Castellucci, the bass, has a solo channel he started during the pandemic. You will want to go down that rabbit hole, as well. Thanx for reacting to this!!

Layne (beatbox) just ups his game every video. For VP's more theatrical videos, checkout Dream On, My Mother Told Me, Friends On the Other Side or Hoist the Colours. For less theatrics try Warriors, Superstition, or Wayward Son (also with Omar) In Just Sing (watch WITH captions) they make fun of Geoff and Tim both having the grey streaks in their hair - long hair and a grey streak seem to be a requirement for a low bass. ;)
@Wildecat102 жыл бұрын
I think you’d like their version of the Halo theme also. If you react to that one, check out the first pinned comment first, and keep rolling through Scott’s comments. You’ll get a quick history of the group. By the way, that’s just the upper level patrons. They had to stop listing everyone when the list got too long to scroll or add to the comments.

Here's how we know about this... Home Free, Pentatonix and VoicePlay were all three on a TV Competition show for Acapella groups called "Sing Off". Home Free and PTX both won their seasons of the sing Off show. Check out Voiceplay's cover of "Oogie Boogie Song" from the Nightmare Before Christmas movie. They are very theatrical compared to other Acapella groups. Their bass singer Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci also helps out Home Free with arrangements and video production when needed. You may also remember that Avi Kaplan former Bass singer of Pentatonix did a collab with Home Free on "Ring Of Fire". So they all know each other from the Sing Off show and collab as desired. Enjoy!

I have the feeling you are about to have a blast listening to more Voiceplay. Just be prepared to see a bunch of different lineups as they've had quite a few changes in the group over the years. The three constants are Layne Stein (beatboxer), Geoff Castellucci (bass) and Eli (pronounced Ellie not EE-lie) Jacobson (bald tenor). In the earliest videos, you will see Tony Wakim as the baritone, he left and was eventually replaced by J. None, who himself left late last year to join the Navy (which is why 'Man in the Mirror' is a particularly heartfelt tribute to him as one of his last videos with the group). They now have Cesar de la Rosa. Their high tenor, Earl Elkins, Jr. left a while back, and they are still looking for a replacement, which is why you often see 'featuring' in their titles, when they bring in guests to work with them and round out the group. I can only speak for myself as to how I 'discovered' these guys. At the beginning of this year, I knew nothing about a cappella groups at all. I had just watched a multi-episode documentary on the Beatles, and after watching the one focusing on 'Eleanor Rigby' and how George Martin and Paul McCartney had decided to use a string octet as the instrumental backing for it, I went on KZbin to watch other versions of the song. I listened to several, including one live version performed by McCartney with a string octet behind him. And one suggested video that kept coming up was for the 'Voiceplay' version, and I finally clicked on it honestly thinking "Voice Play" was some kind of description for a particular type of performance, not even realizing that it was the name of the group. Their performance of the song stunned me, and I think I watched it at least 4 times in a row. Then I started watching some of their other videos, choosing 'oldie' songs that I knew like "Unchained Melody" and "Can't Help Falling In Love", and then on Geoff's solo effort "16 Tons". And it's just been a constant joy over the ensuing months to discover more and more of their work, particularly as they keep topping themselves with their latest releases. They are monumentally talented, as not only singers, but actors and musical arrangers as well.

With you being a beatbox champion, you will definitely appreciate all things about Voiceplay, they have some of the most insane arrangements with their beatboxer Layne. Some songs you definitely want to check out Hoist the Colours, Dream On, Halo, Friends on the Other Side. Definitely looking forward for more of your reactions of VoicePlay!

Several years ago Geoff worked at Universal Studios Orlando. I worked there as well. VoicePlay competed on The SingOff against Home Free. A few years later I was at Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party and they were performing on one of the small stages in between the parades and fireworks. Excellent one to start your VP journey. Be advised, this rabbit hole is deep (no pun intended). 😉 My introduction to VP was "Daddy Sang Bass" because I love the song. I have been hooked every since. Between that and Geoff (the bass) singing quartets with himself, I have my fill of the best music ever created IMO. Also love their theatrics. Suggestions - Warriors, Halo Theme, Hoist the Colours (Pirates of the Caribbean), Dream On … and too many others to mention. VP has had a couple of people leave over the last year, so you might see some older videos with different people. The three consistent members are Geoff (Jeff,bass), Eli (Ell lee, bald dude, tenor), Layne (beatboxer, taller guy with dark hair). Cesar (black guy, elf ears, baritone) is the newest member. The high tenor is their guest this time. He’s also in Dream on, Superstition, and Carry On My Wayward Son.

Okay, sit back and I'll give you a couple of things to chew on. :) 1st welcome to the Glorious Rabbit Hole that is acapella and Voiceplay. One of the Big 3 groups that many people here on You tube follow and like. The other 2 are Pentatonix, and Home Free. I have heard several people (and online communities) refer to Voiceplay as the 'theater kids of acapella while Pentatonix are the More 'pop' sound and Home Free is generally more of a 'country' influenced sound. This particular video is one of their newer ones. I think You will see some of how they have VASTLY improved over the years by going back to....about 2019 and watching Oogie Boogie's song. this one IS excellent But...you will be blown AWAY by I will Survive (which they filmed during Lockdown) and Queen in 5 minutes. Then after you pick yourself up off the floor PLEASE listen to and watch Hoist the Colors, If I were a Rich Man/Girl and HALO. (Also watch the halo one all the way through to see background and a beautiful tribute to one of their founding friends) any of their videos will blow the top off your noggin, I saw them in person at the Christmas Party in the Magic Kingdom in Orlando in 2016 (I think) and they were JUST as good in person as their video tracks are. enjoy the ride. (and the views once the Voice Players find you)

His low voice has nothing to do with the hammer or his hair. Lots of practice and many many years of singing almost the whole range of the piano. Voiceplay has been together since the 90s. Middle school.
