This is the Nightwish many of us fell in love with. This was the first song I had ever heard from them and it captured my interest. Back then finding a band like Nightwish was the equivalent to finding a vein of gold in your backyard.

This song is a cover from a short christmas movie where a boy actually went to fly with a snowman to snowman land and this song is then played while they fly. And I am with you on this song, even if it hasn't the layering of the other Nightwish songs it still tells you a story and gives you emotions. It's one of the older songs by Nightwish and it still gives me goosbumps. Also it's the song that introduced me to Nightwish all those years ago. Thank you for sharing my request!

You're absolutely right. The short movie is simply called The Snowman and it's worth watching, just like it's worth watching either the other recordings of the song ( I like Nightwish but don't feel they do a good job with this one) especially the one where Aled Jones sings a duet with himself as a kid ❤️

And if you care to watch it, as far as I know it's still available on KZbin. The version I watched has David Bowie doing a (spoken) voice introduction to it. One day I'll have an actual recording where you can actually fully see/appreciate the northern lights. The bit your giggling about the "mighty monster from it's sleep" - they're flying over the ocean the "monster" is a whale. (Really impressive visuals for that bit)

Tarja Turunen was lead singer and co founder of NW from 1997 -Oct 2005. At the end of the world tour and a return to Helsinki Finland. The split was a surprise to her. It was.not on good terms. That is not controversial or disputed. She and Marko made their peace. Floor was friends with Tarja before and since joining the band. NW still has a career going with Floor to this day. Tarja is married, has a daughter and a solo career spanning 15 years so far. She has done wonderful for herself. Also.nothing disputed or controversial there. Classicly trained. Sings metal, pop ( rarely) has done true opera not just operatic rock. Has a beautiful chest voice that is rich and warm. Her head voice, loud, clear powerful and has reached D6 I believe. An example being her cover of Supremacy. If you did not know it was a cover and by a male singer you'd be forgiven for thinking it was written for her. Her solo career is full of rich music to enjoy and of course nightwish exists too, and you are free to enjoy it. I would though skip Bye Bye Beautiful. It was mean spirited and written after Tarja's departure. Floor set ground rules in place upon joining. She will never sing that song. I say respect both their wishes and skip it. This was the first track with Annette Olzen singing lead. 05 - 10. There are good songs from that era to enjoy instead. I don't see any good coming from visiting songs written during bad times, when emotions high, hurt fresh and bitter feelings flowing. Also they were young. Early to mid 20s. Time heals all wounds. They put the past behind them and nothing gained by dwelling in it. Everyone in better places in their lives now. The best music recorded and we get to relive the highlights. Hope you are well and find peace, comfort and joy this holiday season Amanda. 🤘👋💖

This song is actually a cover from an 80' animated movie call Snowman. Yes, this is Tarja and yes, she's just as amazing as Floor. This performance is one of oldest Nightwish performance you can find : it's from DVD called from Wishes to Eternity recorded in 2000. And if you pay attention, you ncan see that they all look muich younger. And the bass player is not Marco, it's Sami Vanska. Marco was hired in 2001.

Naturally it is Tarja - the Founding member of NW together with Tuomas and Emppu. The whole concept was founded on the two basic elements 1. Music and lyrics by Tuomas and 2. Voice of Tarja. Everything was based on this and what followed is just history and tuning the basic concept. There are Jukka and Sami still here too. You are lucky to have a time machine to get into the best concert they have had - and real genuine one. This snowman theme is one of the best melodies Tuomas liked to tune for NW.

@@MikkoRantalainen To be honest, I had no idea who she was back then. I knew Nightwish with their first singer Tarja and loved their music. When she left 2005 and Anette Olzon became the new singer of Nightwish (I think 2006or so) I lost track of Nightwish. Except for a couple of songs I didnt really like the new sound. 2013 Floor was not the official singer of Nightwish yet. She took over some months before when Anette was fired as singer. But all that I learned only later. I was looking forward to Nightwish in 2013 and heard they have a new singer. But I kept my expectations low. And yes, it was a huge surprise .. one of the best concerts I ever saw. B4 Nightwish Alice Cooper was on stage. Then the new, improved Nightwish.. two dreams come true ;) As far as I know, Floor was only a couple of weeks or months after this show officially announced as new singer.

This song, from the Raymond Briggs animation 'The Snowman' has been popular around Christmas in the UK since the 1980's and was sung by choirboy, Peter Auty originally in the animation. They decided to make a UK single of the song in Christmas 1985 due to its popularity but Peter's voice had broken. The vocals were then sung by Welsh Choirboy Aled Jones, where it reached no. 5 in the UK charts and has been played at Christmas ever since. Aled Jones remained as a singer and is still singing to this day. Tuomas loved the animation so much that in 1998 he included his version on the album 'Oceanborn'.

All 3 Nightwish singers are awesome and brought something different to the band's sound as they grew as a band. Poet and the Pendulum is an emotional journey as it portrays Tuomas emotional state after letting go of Tarja from the band. He wrote about committing suicide in the song so he wouldn't do the act himself and I am so glad he stuck around because it would have been such a loss for everyone. Nightwish to me just kept getting better and better with time like a fine wine 😃

Ok - big day for you Amanda - finally heard Tarja.... I am very happy, because this first era of Nightwish - Tarja era is just as great as the Floor era! And Anette's era is just as great if you think how great the songs were back then. So - in my opinion - there is no worse era in the history of this band, each one is interesting, beautiful and different at the same time... You listened to the live version of "Walking On Air" and I know why - most fans told you - listen to this band live. And I agree with those suggestions - 99.9%. But this is a song that falls within that 0.01%. So - listen to the studio version of this song, here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2nVg3uObsd7n80. It is - in my opinion - one of the few NW songs that doesn't have a good live version - but has an excellent studio version.... So - I hope you will see - no, not much you will see, but you will hear and feel the difference.... A big difference!

Hi Amanda, As you already have done a couple of Nigwish songs, maybe you should consider taking a look at Epica, another symphonic metal band. However given this Nightwish song you are reacting and the topic of your channel, I do not suggest the usual Epica songs that other people propose, but I suggest you take a look at “Tides of Time”. It is a beautiful ballad dealing with the grief of having lost someone dear. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5u5dYuVZ658mbc

Everybody is talking the Snowman film being the original of this song but the REAL original is of course JERUSALEM by Perry kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXa1moOrhLasrNE Maybe do one on this original? I see you going into a frenzy at about 9:44min when this part starts

One of their best songs, if you liked this you should react to nightwish dead boy’s poem(tarja’s best piece of music she wrote with nightwish).

First I was wondering ".. What Nightwish - Walking On Air...?" song this one is. Then immediately realizing it's their old cover of Snowman the animation movie. 😁 Thanks for reacting even this old live performance by them. Perfect Xmas song, as the short movie Snowman comes off 📺 TV every Christmas. Keep 'em coming gal! Cheers from the freeeeeezing Finland 🥶, the Mother Land of Nightwish 🤟😎

this is probably Tarja at her best, no denying her voice, she's an incredible singer, there is no one is best, all 3 singers are incredible, it usually comes down to preference, I enjoy all 3 singers they are all gifted, but my preference is Floor, many more options with Floor, but I enjoy all 3, great reaction as always 👍👍🤘🤘

Beautiful version of a beautiful song! I have 3 serious suicide attempts, But mostly I cut myself. On my way down, music doesn't help anymore, Sadly.

I'm here if you need to talk. I used to self harm and, obviously, attempted suicide several times.

@@MentalAmanda Thank you for your answer, and your willingness to help. ut It is not your responsibility. I saw the sad news about the suicide in this community. God bless you for trying to help this poor person. But sadly, sometimes there is nothing to do, so please do not feel any guilt. I just had a suicide attemt about one week ago, my heart stopped for ca 5 seconds,, and my arms and legs are even fuller of cuts. Im Norwegian, so help is available, but I cant bring myself to seek it. It is my battle, and I'll be fine! It is Important to do like you, talk about it, and don't have any taboos about these things. They need to be talked about.

@@einarthormodster95 I know how heavy that phone can be when you need it most, but humans aren't meant to tough things out alone. The depression is telling you not to, but I can tell you from experience that it is so worth it. Please reach out. I don't want to lose you. None of us do.

@@MentalAmanda No one is going to lose me! Somehow you have created a community that cares, a community that understands. Thank you, Amanda, you are not afraid to talk about your problems, problems many people consider taboo. We need to talk about these things! Of course, it can be hard sometimes, like talking to my son. I can't tell him about it., I cant show him my cuts. So you and this community had been important to me. Thank you, Amanda and everybody!

If you like Tarja you might like to react to “Sadness in the night” by her. It describes very good how it feels like to have depression. kzbin.info/www/bejne/foKxlqqanrN0l6s

Very nice reaction.. love ur expression and attention into it, also ur ezplanation too.. Anyway.. as well as ur channel name, i have a suggestion, please I think u should react to Indonesian fingerstyle guitarist, Alip Ba Ta, he has a huge fansbase.. his soulful play will relaxing ur nerve, it was good remedy to survive than suicide of course.. maybe u can start with his cover of Queen 'Love of my Life'.. c ya, thanks 👍❤️😘🇮🇩
