Walking in the Air is one of my all-time Christmas favorite songs. It is a theme song from a beautiful animated film: The Snowman.

Their hair was a bit shorter because they've had their military training few years earlier. We have mandatory military service in Finland, and almost every man has to serve their time (8 to 12 months at that time, 6 to 12 nowadays). Even some women want to do their service.

Baby Nightwish! This is year 2000 so Tarja 23, Tuomas 24, Emppu 22, Jukka 22 and Sami 24. Back in the day it was a big shock how much they improved 1998->2000. Even Marko talked about it, how they were "shy guys from countryside" in 1998 but two years later something else. Signature Nightwish thing: guitar solo and then a massive build up that always starts with the keys and then comes the thunder. Juuri näin Valtte... It's The "formula" of their's... Usually Tuomas makes an introduction with the melody for the song, with or without any other instruments. Then follows time when the whole group is in and often the first verse is presented without Emppu's playing, which brings the "heaviness" to the song coz of the guitar sound. After first chorus starts the "build up"(step by step) and at some point is the "break down" (somewhere in between) before the ending 'climax'. This comfortly familiar 'formula' / 'pattern' can be heard atleast half of the pieces from their tasty cake. 😉👍

Thanks for reaction that was a monster song. Those early songs are amazing and Tarja´s voice and technique fitting perfect. Check another Tarja monsters; Wishmaster, Nemo, Sleeping Sun also got say Tarja´s studio working is gorgeous, some live shows are not so good in times she had to leave.

Sam Vanska, the bass player, joined them for their seccond album Oceanborn, where this song was included, but wasn't in the first one Angels Fall First, where both the guitar and the bass were played by Empu. In those stimes when they played live they invited Samppa Hirvonen, a friend of school, but he was never an official member and never played on an album. For the second album Sami was already there, but he wasn't very serious and hard working so they replaced him with Marco in 2002.

The original Lineup, in their mid Twenties, at their for me Height of their Craft in this Setup in my humble Opinion. Visited my Dad , Stepmom an Siblings in Mexico City July 2000, Nightwish played Mexico City Salon Something dont remember clear the Name, but , fucking awesomeness. And in October in der Zeche in Bochum, great unique Stage in Germany.I were 32:) Boy, that is so long ago. but somehow....yesterday? Jap, no Marko, no Jukka(Kai..oops) on Drums, no Floor, no Troy. Totally different Tonnage, but easy to hear, that its NW. Songs from an animated Movie from 1983. The did, for me, an quantum Jump with this Album and Tour in an great Direction, quality and well....somehow magical, yet medieval Style i totally loved. Absolute ok to somehow be not baffled by this, its old, its not at all nowadays Style, if someone go Nuts about this Performance in an Recap, i would call it Fake. Tuomas says that this classic snowman song moved and touched him so much that he had to make a NW version too. The original line up in year 2000 makes this awesome performance. They are 20+ years old in here. The whole concert can be considered kind of a break through cause they made a DVD out of it...just awesome genuine Nightwish. Yes this was pre Marco.

This was from 2000...and "Walking in the Air" is from the movie "The Snowman." I don't think Floor has sung this song with Nightwish. Tarja does a magnificent job with this song. Don't know if y'all have reacted to Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd, with Marco singing "High Hopes".... it's fantastic!

What a fantastic find! My goodness they were young here. Look at Jukka up there all shirt off and dirt on his face and everything! My only wish for this performance is that they had did this song about a minute longer perhaps repeat that last course one more time. But there's a chance they may have been opening for someone else here and they didn't have much time up there. If I could ask anything of you all it would be to try and react to a little bit more of Taria. But in any case thanks and God bless!

Wow, really young Nightwish. Pre Marko, and Jukka looks like a little kid, but an intense little kid. Emppu looks like Emppu, but with a WHITE guitar. But same poetic lyrics and great composition by Tuomas, a ballad about life. Not really deep, but very beautiful. Makes me feel really, really old. Stay safe, God bless, keep rocking.

Not just a white guitar, it was a Washburn rather than an ESP. I vaguely remember Tank doing a double-take when he first saw something off From Wishes To Eternity, because he actually had to check the gear and not just say, "And of course, Emppu is playing his custom ESP EV-1."

That was Emppu's Washburn CS 780, before he got the EV-1. And before that (the Sacrament of Wilderness and Gethsemane videos when he had REALLY short hair) he had a Washburn N2 Relic Nuno Bettencourt Signature Series guitar. I'm pretty sure he switched to his ESP EV-1 in between Century Child and Once, so maybe late 2003, early 2004? Somewhere around there, anyway.
