90125 is a great record, it is a collection of powerfull Songs perfect for and only possible in the 80s. It is still progrock, if you take 80s rock as reference. On the other hand to be able to dance to some of the tracks without major beat fumble doesn't make it pop either. Up to this record yes had been an acquired taste for me due to my age. But soon after release of 90125 puberty hit me and with it i got a taste for the 80s. Like with so many things from this special decade it boils down to a matter of taste for an era when having a common "good taste" in something was rejected or subverted by many subcultures. Musik had become a backbone for movements within society and their creative expressions. Therefore it became political. Up to the point of nonpolitical popmusic been seen as making a point of it. This gives the 80s a very unique soundtrack with many great entries from all types of genre and artists. 90125 has a special place in my heart because it is just good music and it is fun to listen to. Yes, either by design or as a feature of their lyrics to be known to follow unconventional guidelines, managed to avoid all of these entanglements giving us just music ... no bagage attached. TL;DR: 90125 is the only Yes record you could get away with playing it on one of your own parties in its entirety, without throwing your social life into disarray. sincerely, Matthias Exeler

Trevor Rabin: rock guitar playing (grinder/fuzzy sound desired, metal fingering) Steve Howe: classical guitar playing (delicate aerial fingering, classical/acoustic sound desired). For those who have a certain knowledge of YES's music, their ears are immediately struck by this difference which directly impacts the overall rendering. Thanks.

I looked back, when you did “Owner of a Lonely Heart” live at the Apollo nine months ago. That was “ARW”, Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman who at the time was touring “performing the music of Yes”. They had a touring drummer and bass player. The other Yes with Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Alan White, Geoff Downes and Jon Davison was also touring at the same time. Yes should definitely be considered for Friday or Sunday when you run out of PF and Genesis albums.

I saw this tour at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis, and KSHE 95 informed us Yes fans that the opening act was to be a "New Wave" band called Spandau Ballet, and St. Louis was not happy, no siree! Yes decided to drop Spandau Ballet for the St. Louis show, and offered up three Warner Bros Bugs Bunny cartoons as the opening act. 😝 Brilliant move! Of course it was a great show. Ain't heard this song in decades... thanks man 👍✌️

While I couldn't get so easily in their huge early catalog, I got this record and I was blown by the overall quality of it. Well it is more a try to approach pop songs by their own craft, if it's the case they may have succeeded. Some important changes had been made in their lineup with the arrival of Trevor Rabin at the guitars (while Steve Howe were gone with Asia at the time) also Tony Kaye at the keyboards were an old mate from their beginnings if I remember. This album is a very special offering from Yes. Don't forget the importance of the influence of the producer Trevor Horn, who were present in the previous album "Drama", were he also played bass and sang with his mate Geoffrey Downes from the Buggles (who also went to Asia) so strange and captivating! Check next some other songs from that masterpiece, I would recommend first "Changes" and also "it can Happen". As usual, thanks for the listening ride, Brandon. Have a nice week end.

...I adore this song, actually more than the rest of the album, which isn't bad at all, but this one carries such heart-immersed vibes, and Jon's voice is just celestial here, and comes to its full potential... I think this song got quite a bit overlooked, because its slow and asks for patience for its process of unfolding, but so rewarding! Just don't expect though much more songs like that from their 80s catalogue... its an exceptional piece... loving so much your appreciation for this one, Brandon... 💖

1983 was an interesting year for a big Yes fan like me. Jon & Vangelis put out "Private Collection" that same year (the album that has "Horizon" on it!), and I used to listen to "90125" and "Private Collection" together. It was the 2 sides of Jon Anderson - the elegant and the fun. The two albums are wildly different but complement each other nicely. "Hearts" was always such an interesting journey down a river to some mystical place.

Vangelis also came out with the soundtrack album _Antarctica_ that year, which I just love. The year before, 1982, Vangelis did _Blade Runner_ and the year before that, 1981, _Chariots of Fire_ and _The Friends of Mr Cairo_ came out. Quite a fruitful time for the maestro.

@@TheReaperMan275 There a spots on "Private Collection" where I can hear keyboard sounds from "Blade Runner," like he kept a lot of his settings. There's a b-side from those sessions called "Song Is..." where the opening instrumental sounds very much like the "Blade Runner" mood. That was a wonderful time period for Vangelis. What a genius he was!

Trevor Rabin almost single-handedly revitalized YES from falling into obscurity in the 80s. I'm extremely grateful for that. Some YES fans love to rag on him for making YES sound too commercial but if Steve Howe were part of 80s YES, they would have still gone the commercial route. Just look at the band Steve Howe was a part of at the time. Asia. Need I say more? _90125_ brought the band new life, which allowed them to continue on for decades to come. For me _90125_ is a solid album. Not one bad song. And "Hearts" is just the icing on the cake, imho.

I don't like to distract from YES, they are my absolute favorite band and will probably remain that way for the rest of my life. But you also talked about Trevor Rabin. He recently released a new solo album (Rio). The whole album is interesting, but I especially want to suggest the song "Push" to you. It's really worth it. I'll probably get criticism again with my second suggestion because there are a lot of Yes fans who deny the 2023 lineup the right to call themselves YES. But I think the song “Mirror To The Sky” from the album of the same name is absolutely worth listening to; regardless of the band name.

Being a dedicated fan since the beginning, over 200 shows, I was so happy that YES finally had a #1 song with Owner. The tour was awesome seeing several shows in the Midwest. The tour lasted nearly 2 years which actually hurt the band with releasing Big Generator much later than it should. Poor management from the YES camp which happened way too often! Trevor gave the band new life and was with the band for nearly 10 years. Time flies when you're having fun and making millions! Getting back to Hearts, such a great mini epic, a masterpiece in my heart. The boys stepped it up and were so strong, especially playing it in concert. Jon's vocals melt me every time i listen to it. Many fans have mixed feelings about 90125, but it is one of the most important albums in the history of YES! The genius of Trevor with his technical contributions and writing, and Jon's return to the band made 90125 an album for the ages. Probably the first tour from YES with fans in the crowd from age 8 to 80. Simply remarkable!! YES❣️ The greatest band on this or any other planet❣️ FOREVER YES❗️❗️❗️😎
