Nemophila is heavy but they also can go soft (almost Pop Rock soft), they are a very versatile band and the singer, Mayu, is also very versatile (her cleans are very good). Most of their songs are more of a mix between harsh and clean vocals (Revive, Rise, Dissension). For a contrast with Zen, the softer songs are "Life," "Odyssey," and "Beautiful Days." Depending on the song the the other members, including the drummer, will sing, "Dissension" being a good example. Even in Zen there was a short bit where the guitarist on the right, Saki (no longer in the band) was doing backing vocals (0:57 to 1:07), the bassist might also have been doing backing vocals as well. They have an extensive collection of cover songs available (they have always done covers but during the shutdown to keep the hype up they released a lot of covers, they continue to release covers but at a slower pace).

Nemophila is a top-tier band for me and Mayu's relentless vocals in Zen are perfectly brutal. I would also recommend checking out KOIAI, another band with Nemophila's guitarist Hazuki. Two incredible guitarists plus a fantastic drummer named Kanade Sato.

Formerly a five-piece as seen here, now a four piece. Saki, the guitarist on our right, left around Easter this year. This is at the more extreme end of their heavy side. The band is very versatile and changes styles and genres frequently. Their root is metal/metalcore but they also do punk, hard rock, nu-metal/rap-metal, thrash, ballads, pop punk, pop metal. Mayu's scream used to be all in treble/fry territory but over the last two or three years she's worked on attaining some depth and roundedness. Her clean melodic vocals are also very distinctive. The current lineup is: Mayu: clean and scream lead vocals, occasional rhythm guitar Hazuki: 7-string guitar, vocals Haraguchisan (Hara-chan): 5-string bass, vocals Tamu: drums, vocals. Drummer Tamu carries the bulk of the backing vocal load at live shows because the other members move around the stage a lot and are frequently off mic. She is a multi-instrumentalist with an epic reputation as a top drummer in Japan. Other recommended tracks: 'Ama-Te-Ras', 'Beautiful Days', 'Revive' (live at House of Blues), 'Raitai' MV, 'Rise' MV, 'Oiran' specifically the live video from a year ago ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6Kkc6GceM2jmM0 ).

Great band..Thanks for the reaction..lots of "reactors" dismissing Nemophila since their guitarist on right(Saki) left to go solo.. They're next level musicians each one, and Mayus vocals are one of one.. They're very diverse in genres, hard R&R, Metal, power ballads, and everything between.. Nemophila thankfully decided to continue, and they haven't missed a beat.. Between Murata Tamus drumming skills, adding fills to compesate,as well as (bassist) Haraguchi-san, they still maintain an excellent full rhythm section, and Hazuki(guitar) is far underrated..Her technical play is amazing ! If you get a chance check out their newest rework of their song "Style"(live in studio) "Enigma", cover of Loudness song "Crazy Nights",as well as their beginnings songs Raitei (Thunder) and "Oiran"(live) For a great power ballad, their in studio live song "Life"( with english subs) song means a great deal to this band..many songs to choose from..

This is also probably their simplest song from a composition perspective. Some of their other songs are more complex. In addition, they have songs in many genres (Hard rock, metal, numetal, power ballad, rap, Arabian/Indian style, and pop rock). Very versatile. Also, they have numerous covers ranging from 70s-20s Western and Japanese rock/metal. Their cover of Detroit Rock City in full makeup is a trip and a half. They have a great sense of humor.

Thanks for a Nemophila reaction. I enjoy your analysis of songs. Admittedly, there's really not much to go on here. It's pretty straight forward. Adabana, Amateras, Style have much more going on. Would like to see you do those. They are incredible musicians. Tamu is a very highly regarded drummer of many styles. A.nd Mayus cleans are great and her soft side is top notch too. With these girls, you will get many genres in their music.. Metal core, pop punk, thrash, numetal, power ballad, hair metal. It's all there

This is one of their fewer songs to fearture only screaming vocals. In many of their other songs (Raitei, Revive...) she switches from clear vocals to screams and back. Also, the guitarists have some great solos in those. When they stated out they did a load of funny cover versions (e.g. Whole lotta Rosie by AC/DC).

To answer your question, and I’m not a drummer, or musicians of any kind. Tamu Murata’s normal drum set includes one bass drum with double kick pedals, one snare, and five toms. She is a signed artist for Tama drums. Her cymbal set up varies and is way beyond my knowledge. Although she is also signed by Meinl cymbals, if I’m not mistaken. She also has her own signature drum sticks. Again, I’m not a musician, but there are typical variations in equipment between musical genres. For example a 6 sting bass is quite common in Jazz, but most rock/metal bands use five strings. There are of course exceptions like BOH. Historically, it was somewhat standard for metal guitarists to down tune a six string, but there are bands like Nemophila and others that use seven strings. My guess comparing Tamu’s setup to other favorite drummers of mine relates to her background. Tamu’s early background is a Jazz drummer. However, she is world class in many genres. I’m pretty ignorant on the topic, so I welcome any replies from actual musicians.

For me..Nemophila is most promising metal band out there..They have it all to break globally, at least they deserve it. Mayu’s voice is unique. All the great drummers from Japan, Tamu is my absolute favourite. She has jazz background so she basically play whatever she wants 😅 After Saki( gtr, stage left) left March 2024, there was some confused times what next but ladies came back stronger than ever. They did some new arrs to songs but managed to do it with style. New Nemophila is maybe heavier than ever and their liveshows are friggin crazy metal fests. People are goin wild in those. What I love about them that they play whatever genre they wanna play and nailed it 10/10. Musicianship level is just amazing. Thank you for reacting Nemophila 🔥❤️🙏🏻🤘

I'm not a big fan of Mayu's scream (frye?) voice, but does have it's place in Nemophila's musical style. She has one of the most interesting and melodic tones with her natural voice that I could listen to for days. Thanks for the reaction, I hope you get a chance to do more from them.

They are great musicians. Great singer. She sings clean, and even rap in a song called Style. They just did a new version of it because one guitarist left the band. The new version is better than the old. Check it out.

Hey Jaron......I love this band....but this is no where near one of their better songs. Mayo the vocalist has an incredible voice and both guitarist are considered prodigy's. The drummer is considered one of the best female drummers in the world. Don't use this song as a true representation of this band. Check out Revive or Ama Te Ras will give you a better feel. These girls are the real deal !!!
