This looks beautiful. Earlier this year I accidentally ended up making my son an electric guitar, using a salvaged neck and building the body myself so he had something lighter to play (he's only 8). I'm now planning on building a semi-acoustic bass for myself. I'd be glad to get something half as nice as this!

Instead of twine for holding layers together when gluing, some people use a bicycle inner tube cut into strips

Thanks for sharing. Great job. The main thing that threw me was not giving yourself access to the electronics. I've owned several semi-hollow basses, and I've never seen one that didn't have easy access to electronics, as they often fail or are swapped out. Theoretically, you could always add a cutout and backplate later. Cheers!

Normally the warwick bridge would be inlaid a little into the body and the tuners were backward but that doesn’t really matter Loved it!!

I would love for SOMEONE to build an electric bass guitar as close to an upright/double bass as possible (in construction, that is). All hide glue, set-neck, hollow-body construction, maple neck, back and sides, ebony fingerboard (maybe running through the whole body like on Hagstrom Viking basses?) And with both a piezo and magnetic pickups. I bet a bass like that would sound fabulous, especially if it was fretless

Another way to have done the electrics would have been to have the back flat and then routed an access hatch. Semi hollow guitars are really hard to do but that's an excellent result!

There's a video up on my channel where I do a cover of "Cabin Fever - Reignwolf". It's a banger of a song. You can hear me play it there. The acoustics work pretty well for a clean sound, but my favourite sound is running the TV Jones pickups through a distortion for a really growly vintage sound.

The overall look of this guitar is very nice. My only comment is the inside of the body would look better with some kind of finish like a flat black or burnt finish and the "F" holes would look better painted rather than unfinished. IMHO. god bless and stay well.
@stevenedwards4470

That came out nice. I especially like the neck. I think traditional wood filler is a better option for painted finishes. I like Reignwolf too.

Very nice ! well done. I'm just wondering, how are you gonna reach the potmeters if they fail?
@PforProject
@PforProject 3 жыл бұрын
I kept the wires to the pickups extra long so I could still pull the potmeters out in case they need servicing. Furthermore, I checked whether they fit through the sound hole before glueing the top on. Redoing the electronics will be a real hassle, but it's still possible (i already had a badly grounded pot that i managed to fix.)

So, I'm confused. The title card shows a left-handed bass. You seem to be left-handed, in the building montage. Yet the bass seems to be right-handed. That's not so odd, in itself; lots of lefties play righty, but the title card orientation threw me off.
@PforProject

Hi! Hope you enjoyed the video besides the confusing perspectives! My phone camera may have flipped the image i used for the thumbnail of this video, without me realising it. I am indeed left-handed, keen eye! I play right handed though. I'm sorry for the weird mirrored thumbnail.

@PforProject 3 жыл бұрын
@@monkas6113 thank you! I knew that while making it, but as the sound holes are rather small, I knew what a pain in the ass it would've been to do it like that. If the electronics need to be replaced, I need to take it all out anyway, so I kept the pickup leads long enough to pull the electronics out as one. I know the proper way is to do it afterwards. Also the semi hollow thing was something I knew, just made for a more accessible title to call it a hollow body so people understood what the idea was from looking at the title. I think throughout the video I call it a semi hollow, not completely sure about that though. Thank you for the compliment! New wood arrived in the shop, so when the next project is done, expect another bass guitar build. It could take a while, as work and uni take up a chunk of my time, and then the editing of the video is a tedious process to turn weeks of video material into a
