For a better lineup of the pattern, try doing the upper and lower as one piece. Use your grip bolt as a place to hold. Looks good though.

For future tries, dip it long ways in, slowly. Like the first part you dipped, turn that so it’s right side up or just straight up hold one side and dip it from one tip to the other, Instead of dipping it in flat on one side. It allows the pattern to grip it evenly without warping it or stretching it. It’s hard to explain without showing you lol if you watch videos on it, you’ll know what I mean but just from me saying it I don’t know if I make much sense haha looks good tho! Good for a first try definitely! Also dip into the middle of the sheet, if you need to, use smaller sheets. I don’t know why some people in the comments are hating for no reason lol i feel bad for them. You stated it was a first try so I’m not sure why these people are holding you up to a prose standard hahah also who cares if he didn’t include dipping, it could have been an accident. If you don’t watch KZbin much, a lot of people have issues where their camera stops recording lol if he edited it out on purpose than that was his prerogative, who cares. If that annoys you enough to rant about it, your an angry little person lol

To be honest with you I messed up and some how didn't get that in when I was editing. I was editing on a crappy computer and it wouldn't render while editing so I couldn't watch the clips really when I put them together. Wasn't intentional. I would have rather put that in so people wouldn't make the same mistake I made. lol. I didn't find out till latter that it was too much activator that was causing the problem. you can see it on my hand guard as well. Live and learn I guess. Over all I was surprised at how well it came out for my first time ever doing this.

Depending what brand it is, that’s actually what you are supposed to do. If you see other people do it, it could have just been a reflex! Ive never used that brand so I am not sure if that brand has a step of spraying the film, all of the ones I have used do.

Haven't watched all the way through yet but you can matt clear coat a gloss finish, results are the same as matt. A useful technique as gloss is often more resilient to damage and scratching. (Test first as always)

I've tried hydro dipping things many many times and i can never get it right. It always comes out with some imperfection and has to be redone. I did a gun 6 times before i was finally able to get it somewhat acceptable. Aerosol activator is shit. If it cannot be sprayed from a spray gun there is no point in even attempting a hydro dip. I gave it up. I'm not the kind of person that can complete a task and have the patience to redo it over and over. It's so frustrating.

How does it stand up to gun cleaner and lube? And banging around use on the gun range? If you mess it up how do you clean it for a 2nd dip?

When you primed the metal parts did you use just the etching primer or did you us a urethane primer along with the etching primer?

It held up good. I used it for deer hunt this year as well. Still looks great. I just need to not use as much activator as I was and the paint would have turned out better. Live and learn

Great. I have been taking it out and shooting it on a buddies property. I set it down on the ground and lean it on a back and I have no issues yet. real durable. I recently did my Ruger SR9C lower with it as well and it works great. I am actually surprised how well it holds up. I did put 3 coats of matte clear coat on too.

I realize it was your first time but I see you scuffed the parts and went right to priming. Shouldn't you have cleaned and de-greased everything first to remove any residual oil from the factory and particulate from the scuffing operation prior to priming?

Yes I could have done a better job of cleaning but the real issue I found was that I was using to much activator. That is what the issue was with the paint bubbling in spots on my magazine and hand guard. I wish I would have done better on capturing that on video as well. Overall it turned out pretty good for my first time doing this from just watching KZbin videos on it. Next time I will be able to do a better job. I do like how simple it is to use the dip kit. It held up really good too. I have been taking it out shooting and used it for deer hunting this year and no bad scratches or anything.
