He bm'd so that the singed could catch up to him and then proceeded to preemptively place a ward as far as he could, so that when the Singed E'd him and turned around to go back and get him, Singed would be far enough away for Ekko to TP to the ward, Ult and run away unscathed. The mind control was just a side effect of this master play. This could not be reproduced even by Faker.
