Welcome to this ALDI vlog, where we check out ALDI for the first time in our lives. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good experience for us and we won't go back! LIDL was brilliant however!

That Aldi store was so chaotic! It‘s usually not that bad AT ALL! Aldi and Lidl are so similar here in Germany, but I have to say that Aldi‘s own product line tends to be a bit better. I enjoy the shopping experience in Lidl more too, but that Aldi store experience you had was awful! 😂😅

This video is what my local US Aldi is like! I can never understand how Aldi is people’s main grocery store here.ETA except that this Aldi was cleaner.

@@Ajb259 Aldi is my primary grocery except I don’t go in - I shop via Instacart. I buy fresh & organic fruit and produce, chickpea pasta, various nuts, organic dairy including cheeses and eggs, some meats …. Most of what I buy at Aldi is store brand and considerably lower than elsewhere, then I go elsewhere for my branded items such as coffee, tea, condiments etc. Edit: I’m in the U.S.A.

Please don't take this too harshly but this video does show how you're detached from the real world a little or maybe you were just having a bad day. The weekly food shop is not about the "experience" of it and if you don't enjoy the experience you won't go back to that place, it's about being able to fill your fridge, freezer and cupboards up with food for a full week on just £40. We really don't give a rats arse if it's an enjoyable experience or not lol it's cheap (well cheaper than a lot of other supermarkets) so it just is what it is. You're living a very blessed life if you can choose which supermarket to shop at based on the experience and not the prices lol. Also that kid crying etc and all those loud calls to the tills was super annoying but that doesn't happen all day every day, and you might have gone in on a stock refill day hence why there wasn't much fresh stuff there. Having said all of that I do prefer Lidl for their fruit and veggies and Aldi for their frozen food and meat so even with these cheaper shops there's hits and misses and I actually go to multiple shops to do my full shop as I would prefer getting the stuff I like the most rather than settling, I've still got to pay so I'm only going to pay for the best (what's best in my eyes). It's good that you visited it but maybe to a round 2 and give it another shot hopefully when it's more quite and actually try some of the Aldi branded food and give us an honest review, that would be really interesting x

The security alarms going off made me feel so bad lolllll PTSD 😅😅 I understand your sentiment. We also shop at the cheapest place possible wherever the deals are good, no matter how difficult the setting feels. I do love and find Sophie's perspective really nice though. It's a great reminder that grocery shopping shouldn't be so damn stressful and difficult! I think we as the consumer have settled for such low standards and it has become a sad norm. Just my thoughts. xx

My Aldi stores are always very clean and organized. I will usually go in the afternoon during a week day. It is very quiet at that time of day. I have bought meat there and have never had a problem. The other grocery stores in my area are much more expensive, so for me it's worth a 10 minute drive to get there.

Hi Sophie - it’s just occurred to me… I’m enjoying the new channel because I can relate to it a little more. I followed the main channel because I like hearing what you have to say about luxury and then I liked learning about your professional and personal journeys (found those pretty relatable as well). Ultimately though, luxury is only a small part of my life I might only purchase one thing a year… but I do grocery shop at least once a week! On top of that it’s pretty chill vibes and I can tell you and David are having fun with it. I’m more inclined to comment too since I have a little more perspective vs on the topic of luxury. This grocery series has been pretty interesting just comparing your experience vs the options I have in the US. That Aldi was really chaotic and loud!! Mine never gets that busy and there really are savings to be had but I have to choose when to go because I can’t always do a full shop there. I wish I had a Lidl near me! Or Trader Joe’s, but I live in a small town and have more regional chains

Oh my,our store isn't like this at all, shocking. I pay same for wine 4.99, alot of fresh vegetables and fruits. The organic selection is great, cheese is reasonable. I could have not stood the noise either. You know we live a pretty quite life just the two of us in a tgree story early house, and when son was home never knew he was around and I think the noise bothers us more because of this. In our store there is a lane with seasonal items, some strange, some useful. The steaks at ours come in twos and threes so delicious. Thank you great video.....the noise stressed me too😂❤

Hi Sophie, I regularly shop at Aldi as I’m on a low income, and know exactly what you mean about struggling to deal with the loud noises and chaotic environment! I’m Autistic so I go an hour before they close as it’s a bit more quiet then and easier for me to deal with. Generally their products are decent quality, the staff are pleasant but quite often it’s the clientele who bring the place down as nearly every time I go in there’s drama! Kid’s screaming and throwing stuff around, smelly people getting in your space and refusing to wait until you’ve uploaded your trolly before putting their own stuff on the conveyor belt… It’s been said that many middle class people shop in places like Aldi and Lidl, but in my experience, that’s largely a myth. There are exceptions, but I’ve never seen anyone middle class in my local stores. People don’t tend to shop in these places unless they have to, same goes for Poundland, Home bargains etc. Is it snobbery? Not necessarily, most people just want a pleasant experience, particularly if they are spending money. I think it’s a good thing for people on higher incomes to see what it’s like to shop in places they wouldn’t normally choose. If I had a choice I’d shop at Waitrose and M&S all the time because it’s a nicer experience and doesn’t make me feel moody and stressed.

Not snobbish. A great silent majority agree with you. We're beyond sick and tired of the constant irritating noise, pressing crowds of people who lack manners, and the blasting, mind-numbing music, messages and advertisements inside grocery stores, malls, airports, movie theaters, and every other location where thoughtless people assault one's ability to simply hear and think.

During the video, I kept marveling at the various loud noises in this store! Between the announcements and the scans at the checkout... if the scans came through that loud on video, then it must've been awful in person. I don't blame you one bit for your opinion on the experience. Also I do think that sensory overload is real and I for one know that there are days that being in any grocery store practically makes me dizzy, just the visual aspect alone. I'm sure that everyone has their own tolerance level but all of that noise probably would've made me feel ill. This is not snobbery - who wants to spend time enduring an unpleasant experience when you can have the pleasant one? That said, it's possible that you hit the store at a bad time (although the scanning ruckus won't change at an off hour) 😂

I've never been in such a loud market before, even during the holidays. I could hear so many things in your shopping experience including a man letting out a big sneeze while you were talking. Maybe it's the store location but, I think you did your shopping during peak traffic hours too. This is why I either go to the market really early or after 8 p.m. Never during the day on Saturdays or after church services on Sundays.

With Aldi I have to say location makes a huge difference in what selection the shop offers. At least in my country. There’s an Aldi pretty much next to a 8k a month private school. The selection there is amazing. Amazingly fresh vegetables, fruits, meats etc. they also have “deluxe” items like truffles and caviar (the good one ;-) I usually go there on a Monday morning at around 8. That when the mothers dropped off their kids at school and do the grocery shopping. Like I said, location matters. Compared to another store in town the selection there is really bad. Like you said lots of funk food and canned stuff. And I agree, you can’t do a full shopping there. Only about half I would say.

As an American that grew up shopping at Tops, Sam’s Club, and Wegmans - and now at Safeway, Costco, QFC, Metropolitan Market, Thriftway, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods, I can honestly tell you that Aldi’s is a low end, lousy shopping experience with inconsistent product quality. I live in Oklahoma. Here Aldi is a very small store. There is no loud speaker, you can get in and out quickly. There is a checkout person who is super fast (no self checkout available); you put your items on the belt and they are quickly swept thru and into a basket which you take to the side and bag your own stuff. I don't eat meat so no comment on that, produce seems ok, often there are nice European cheeses, their organic brands are good. I can get staples like organic milk and such at much lower prices than elsewhere. It is a very quiet store & overall a nice experience. Also, it's a store where you put a quarter into a slot to unlock the shopping basket to take it into the store & you get it back after. Often people exchange their quarter and basket in the parking lot to save the trouble or you may find a basket with the quarter already in it that someone has left for the next person. Or you may help someone out who doesn't have a quarter handy. It seems like a small thing, but provides some nice human contact and smiles. The opposite of your experience; it's a relief to go there and avoid the much larger stores where you have to walk all over and often are forced to use the self service checkout.

There are fewer Aldi’s that Lidl stores so Aldi tends to get busier. I’m surprised you found Lidl cheaper because in past surveys they have been cheaper than Lidl, maybe it’s changed. The things you put up with for us. 🤣🙌🏽⭐️

This Aldi is so quiet compared to the one near me. I refuse to go in as it overwhelms me too and everyone from the estate it’s on seem to be in there lol. Ours is a right mess, half empty and barely any staff ever. We also don’t have the self checkouts so have to wait 2 years to get served and then launch everything quickly into the trolly as it’s scanned 😂 Id rather pay slightly more and not want to smash my head in instore haha

Why is it that people without children are always followed by screaming children in a store!?! David - I call them Jesus sandals.

I totally agree with David that it’s not worth it to shop in an unpleasant environment. I, too get sensory overload very easily, and sometimes it’s just not worth it. I see people wearing earbuds shopping a lot, which I used to think was rude, but they are probably trying to have a more pleasant experience!

Think it depends on which Aldi you go to and time of the day. My M&S is crammed whenever I go in. I don’t think I’d class this Aldi experience as ‘hell’ End of the day it’s what is within people’s budget. The middle isle. Yes can be a very random selection. There are also some great bargains to be had. You could also walk through harrods and think “who would wear that” imo 😂

The Aldi’s in my city vary alot, it definitely depends on the management. Luckily the one closer to me is lovely. Our Waitrose is not great, my hubby works there, but it's right next to our railway station so full of people with suitcases, and it had a terrible problem with druggies unfortunately and rough sleepers that use the loos in Waitrose to take drugs.

I shop at Fortnums and Aldi, love both for different reasons. Often Fortnums is more unpleasant than Aldi if you are there at the wrong time. It may attract a wealthier audience, but they are no better behaved than a toddler having a tantrum at Aldi (and you should expect one group to know better!)

I have never been to Aldi. There’s two within 10kms of my house but they are both in shopping malls and you can’t park close. Pushing a full shopping trolley for like half a kilometre isn’t my idea of a good time. I am not surprised by your experience. In Australia they have the reputation of being cheap but very much not a pleasant experience. I know people who do shop there but they only do so because it’s cheaper than our big supermarkets. I have a bad back and find grocery shopping very difficult so I get most of my groceries delivered. It’s a really good service. Then all I have to do is go to my local butcher and green grocerer.

I have to say, I'm the same as you regarding noisy chaotic shops! I can't stand it and rush to get out. Definitely prefer a quiet, calm grocery shop! I've been to a few different Aldi stores, mostly in Australia, and they can be quite different to each other. Some better than others, and not all are overwhelming like this. Still, not my favourite place to shop.

You are not a snob. In the US, Aldis is not considered a great grocery store. It is usually a place people head for cheap food made by generic brands, so the atmosphere varies from store to store. No one should feel shamed for shopping where they like and avoiding places they don't like.
