When you are in Sri Lanka, please don't walk on railway tracks unless you are very sure of the schedules. The locals know the train times and that's why they walk on carefree.

3:33 probably an animal, like a dog, cat or a cow because in Srilanka public defecation is frowned upon or never ever done because even the smallest of houses have a washroom and public washrooms are everywhere. Not to mention the CCTVs everywhere. I lived in Colombo my entire life and never have I seen anyone ever defecate in public other than the rare pisser.

Sri Lanka has strict regulations regarding sewerage disposal. The water smell on that lake is during dryer months lack of fresh water with less oxygen creates the smell. But they are installing a pumping station that will pump water during dryer months. No sewage is released as you may see it's full of water birds and fish

Human 💩 in Colombo?! I have never seen that in Colombo in my 20+ years of life there. It’s either racially motivated, based on India, or you must be from SF or LA where it’s pretty normal to see human 💩 on the streets. I think it’s probably a dog given Colombo’s stray dog population. Another thing I noticed is that you keep calling everything cheap right in front of the vendors. It’s very inconsiderate towards the locals because it’s not cheap for them. Furthermore, the term “cheap” usually connotes low quality rather than good value. Imagine how a vendor feels when every third foreigner they serve calls their products cheap! How many times do they need to hear about the cheapness of their food before they consider raising their prices? And then you complain when they raise prices for foreigners. If you really want to go there, it would be better to use a less condescending word like “affordable”.

Responsible travelling is a must... also there has been talk of the kind of tourists Sri Lanka needs to attract-the ones who can actually pay for the service and not compete the limited resources available for locals - those who can actually help the economy.Please mind your actions.

Great video, thanks for your positive attitude. A few corrections in my opinion since I visit colombo almost daily. 1) It may not be human shit. It’s probably dog shit. There are many public toilets in the cities and most homeless people know to use them. 2) The city is actually busy during the weekdays. The city mostly commercial. During the weekends most srilankans either travel out of the city towards the cool green mountains or coastlines. Also sunday is usually a holiday in the city. Hence many retail shops may have been closed. 3) The half constructed buildings are not run down. Its just that construction paused due to the economic situations and imports of material was restricted. But now everything is getting back to normal and construction is beginning again. 4) There are very nice places, parks, restaurants, cafes, shopping malls, etc. Its not visible in he video..but its ok since you focused on the local areas. 5) Don’t tip the taxis or don’t give free money to anyone, they will get used to it and expect it from tourists always. If you like to help the country/people with donation consider organizations that do genuine work or look sponsor/donate/provide a village school with a new facility or painting or books or anything that directly does not involve money. Also there are many seniors/elders homes that run on donations only.

Welcome to my motherland guys. Few seconds into the video I realized it was a Sunday looking at the streets. On weekdays it’s busier, but not as crowded as other countries in our region. About the train ride, getting together with some strangers and starting to sing is quite common here. We try to make the most out of what we have. You were very kind about the beggars. However I would suggest you not to encourage that unless they try to sell something and make a living. Some of them are more than capable of working, and some are on government benefits and some are led by the under world. The actual beggar gets a bare minimum daily wage and the rest goes to the leaders.. This is the sad truth.. 😢😢😢 I wish you two a pleasant, safe and a memorable journey. Much love 💕
