Love this song. Elvis and the band are fantastic. They are loving it. Agree people need to be real about Elvis. He was an incredible talent, a generous and loving person, had a strong faith, but was messed up, in terms of his ability to cope with life. I think his immense fame combined with his vision of becoming someone led to his complex, contradictory issues. But, it is what it is and he was a human being with insecurities like everyone else, despite his fame. I just love him and hope, somewhere in the great beyond, Elvis knows he is loved by millions and will be forever.

Back then there weren't any copyright issues on songs. Like B.B. King said, once it's out there anybody can do it. Elvis wasn't the only one to cover other people's songs. 90% of pop music from the 50s to 70s were covers by artists. Tina Turner made a living off of doing covers. Proud Mary for example. So did so many others. But Elvis did more songs that were not covers than that were.

You know, he did get arrested back in about 1956, traveling on the road. He stopped at a gas station and guy came up to him and was giving him a hard about his girl liking him. I guess he through a punch at Elvis and he ducked and Elvis punched him. Someone called the cops arrested him. When he went to court, witnesses said the other guy started and the judge drooped the case. Just a trivia Brother. 🤗

Love your reactions Ray! You're absolutely right, Elvis was just a man who made mistakes and was a flawed human being. HOWEVER, the majority of the people around him took advantage of him, and ultimately, I believe, were responsible for his untimely death. As for him being unfaithful to Priscilla, he always was, and she knew that before they ever married, she chose to marry him anyway. She herself had at least two affairs and, in the end, left him for the karate instructor he hired for her! No matter what, he was the greatest entertainer of all time and the sexiest man that ever lived!!

As for him not wanting to marry her, his cook said he didn't. She said he was crying and she asked why. He told her and she told him not to marry her then. He said he had no choice. We could ask for proof for a lot of things alleged against Elvis, but people take everything negative about him as gospel without any. Why is it so hard to believe that he didn't want to be a married man? Why would he want to at that point in his life?

This album is fantastic. Came out in 2018 I think. They removed a lot of overdubs. The aim is to get pure Elvis performance as it was there in the studio while He was recording. Earnst Jorgensen who is one of the topmost Elvis experts headed this project.

Many things in the movie weren't factual. His father wasn't an educated man and had fear of returning to poverty without Parkers guidance. Elvis loved women and only he knows how many were actually a physical relationship. He loved their company, mothering and to talk as much as physically. He needed that because of how he could talk to his mother about things that troubled him. When she died he looked for that the rest of his life. No woman filled her role for him. Vicki

Great to see ya! Hope you continue to keep getting better and pass that dang stone! I like what you said, you can't steal what you got permission to cover!!! The Elvis movie was good at bringing people to Elvis but there are alot of discrepancies with time and place and characterization, his dad was soft spoken but he always pleaded with Elvis to get off of pills but you couldn't tell Elvis anything... alot of his downfall was his own doing! The scene where he collapses didn't happen like that it was actually in his room and his hair stylist Larry Gellar said Dr Nick was dunking his head in water trying to get him up to preform so he told the Colonel what he saw thinking the Colonel would go in there and help him but instead he said like he did in the film "the only thing that matters is this man performs tonight!" Why noone ever told the Colenal where to shuve it and take Elvis to the Hospital is mind boggling... but alot of that was up to Elvis too! He was his own worst enemy but also at that time mental health issues were still taboo and their quick fix was pills, pills and more pills! Ive been researching alot since seeing the movie and the true to life Elvis was not always sad, he was quite a character who loved to laugh, prank, joke and eat fried food. Elvis had many ups and downs, insecurities, emotional instabilities and out of this world talent, Kindness and generosity mixed with his flaws and unfaithfulness to any one woman and addictions but he was never a Diva so to speak he was always down to earth even though his clothes and bling were out of this world! Research ans watch more videos of those who knew him his band and backup singers really give you a glimpse into how he was to work with in the 70s, his interviews which aren't many are very telling too of who he was . Sorry to write a book lol I've just become so intrigued with who Elvis is and not just Elvis the entertainer that ive loved since I was a little girl.

Elvis fans happy place?? hanging out with Ray aka Relvis listening to Elvis and story time with Relvis ( soo funny and imaginative) is my happy place for sure😂😄💃🎶🎵 Love your shirt....looks awesome...I am glad the guy in Walmart was friendly... you know too well how some people hated Elvis . I watched the movie several times to try to absorb everything that was happening. People in the theater were yelling and cursing his manager during several scenes....it got intense. I am pretty sure Elvis dad Vernon always lived with him. I think Vernon went along with Elvis managers decisions and didn't interfere with their relationship. I don't know how involved Vernon was with trying to convince Elvis to get the help he needed to break his addiction to all the different prescriptions he was taking. My understanding is Elvis had several very serious medical issues ( high blood pressure, twisted colon, enlarged heart , insomnia, glaucoma, and there may be other genetic conditions that I missed) . How he managed to function as well as he did for as long as he did is hard to even imagine to me. This album is great and I think you will enjoy many of the songs. All the women Elvis saw and was with weren't sexual as several have come out and said. He loved female companionship! I think it goes back to how close he was with his mom. He could talk to her about anything in ways he couldn't talk to the guys. In front of the guys he always had to be macho. But he could show a softer side with the females and even discuss the Bible and phylosiphy with them. He was a prolific reader and very intelligent. The guys around him didn't want to talk about stuff of substance. I imagine it's very frustrating not having conversations of substance when you have all this knowledge you can't share. He was always learning and could hold a conversation with anyone.

So a little legal lesson: Sampling is taking an actual snippet of an existing recording and using it in a new recording. This requires a sample license from the copyright owner of the recording, and the copyright owner can negotiate whatever terms they want or they can simply say no. A cover is a new audio recording of an already released recording, To do a cover you need a mechanical license; however, as long as you pay the set fees as determined under the Copyright Act for the license, the grant of the license is automatic, meaning the songwriter who owns the copyright in the song cannot say no. There are organizations that administer mechanical licenses so you do not need to contact the songwriter to obtain the mechanical license. You simply fill out the paperwork and the license is automatically granted. The mechanical license only covers an audio recording and would not cover if the recording was included in a movie (which would require a Synchronization License). Music Copyright law is the most complicated area of Copyright law; much more complicated that copyrights in books or even software. Lastly, much of the time when uninformed people accuse Elvis of "stealing" black music, they really are accusing him of cultural appropriation - that he "stole" the style of singing and dancing from Black people and passed it off on his own, not that he literally stole the songs. Though there are those who claim he stole "Hound Dog" from Big Momma Thornton but that is pure ignorance on their part.

Now as for songs written specifically for Elvis as well as for songs that Elvis was interested in recording separate from his movie soundtracks: His manager cut a deal with Hill & Range Music Publishing that ensured Elvis would get a certain percentage of the publishing rights to the songs. I think arrangement was 50/50 between Elvis and the other party or parties. Anyway, Elvis had- by the time of his death- four different music publishing companies: Elvis Presley Music, Gladys Music, Whitehaven Music, & Elvis Presley Music Inc. Miss Helene can further educate you and/ or others on the legalities since she is by profession a lawyer. I did my own independent research on music copyright laws in the US and what was the business as usual practices in Elvis's day. Two things: It was actually President Nixon in 1972 that further tightened up and built on the pre- existing copyright laws in America which dated back to the early 1900's (I think 1919 but don't quote me; also on printed texts copyright laws in America the first one enacted dates back to the late 1700's). Also I read that the US has the strictest copyright laws in the world. Okay so, "I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water" was written by Joe Babcock, also and more famously known as Cowboy Joe Babcock. Here is some info that I found on the internet about him (in case you or anyone else is interested): Cowboy Joe Babcock, born in the corn and cattle country of Nebraska, demonstrated a love for cowboy and country music at an early age. This love for music took him through music school at the University of Nebraska and a quest for a career in music that, after a stint in the us army, took him to Chicago, the West Coast and ultimately to Nashville, Tennessee where he landed a job with Marty Robbins and the Glaser Brothers. Marty recorded 19 of Joe's songs including the much recorded "Doggone Cowboy". He also recorded with Marty on such famous songs as "Devil Woman," "Among My Souvenirs," "El Paso City" and the Western album "Return of the Gunfighter". Joe wrote the classic fugitive ballad "I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water" while with Marty, which was a hit for Stonewall Jackson and has subsequently been recorded by dozens of artists including Elvis Presley, Johnny Rivers and Charlie Rich. After his stint with Marty, Cowboy Joe along with his friend Hurshel Wiginton, started the singing group, "The Nashville Edition" which provided the vocal backing for 180 No. 1 songs, including "If We Make it Through December" by Merle Haggard, "Pure Love" by Ronnie Milsap, "Rose Garden” by Lynn Anderson, "Behind Closed Doors" by Charlie Rich, and many other artists. Cowboy Joe also recorded with Elvis Presley and can be heard on such famous recordings as "Amazing Grace" and the sound track for the Elvis Presley movie, "Tickle Me". In 1968 Joe and the Nashville Edition joined the Hee Haw Show and provided the vocal backing for the show until it stopped taping in 1993. Joe also sang with the "Hee Haw Gospel Quartet" when Buck Owens left the show and later sang with "The Hee Haw Cowboy Quartet", a group he created as a tribute to his idols the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. As of 2016, Cowboy Joe and the Nashville Edition have worked, collectively or individually, either on records, road shows or TV, with 110 of the 127 members of the Country Music Hall of Fame. In the 1980's Cowboy Joe started working with his wife Carol and daughter Lorrie as "Cowboy Joe and the Babcocks". They garnered 24 national awards in the country gospel field and also recorded cowboy and bluegrass albums. Joe's song "Dixie Cannonball" garnered him the "Best Pure Country Song" from the Academy of Western Artists in 2007 and now in 2016 his Western swing album "Trail Jazz" was voted the Western Swing Album of the Roots Music Association in 2016. Cowboy Joe is still active, recording and playing the road with his band "Trail Jazz." He is also an active cowboy/rancher on his spread in Tennessee and stays in shape with fencing, haying, cattle handling, and all the other chores inherent in the operation of a modern cattle ranch. I think I've only heard one song so far that I didn't think he did it justice and that was Memphis, Tennessee because that song was "stolen" from him by Johnny Rivers. The movie did not show Vernon in a true light. He was not weak. He had no problem getting in someone’s face. Vernon’s weakness was his low desire to keep a job when Elvis was growing up. It is well documented by the Memphis Mafia that none of them saw themselves as married. The wives were married, but the men were not. Elvis was never faithful with any woman. His boys stated he would have one girl flying out on a plane and another girl flying in on another plane. Other than his cousin Billy Smith, they all divorced - some of them multiple times. Elvis was not the marrying kind. He should have just stayed single. By the way, Billy Smith has his own KZbin channel. He and his wife answer questions put forth by their viewers. They seem like lovely people. There are some good first hand stories.
