She wrote this about losing her beloved grandfather. At 78, I could have been her grandfather; I don't know his age when he passed. The song and her voice give me goosebumps during the song. I love this young woman's voice; I love it. She is a young lady with an old soul inside her. Mike

Mike, this was written for her maternal grandfather. She sang "Always on my Mind" shortly after the death of her paternal grandfather.

Rosalie, her maternal grandfather, was a Japanese Gentleman in the true sense of the meaning. He was known in Oslo, to help the homeless people with food and finding them jobs. He took Angelina with him, so the streets of Oslo knew her, and she learned to care for others. I know she has brought dinner at Christmas to home less people in LA. Stay safe, healthy and happy. I so appreciate what you wrote! I knew some of it, but not the depth of this aspect of Angelina and her grandfather. The whole family is so remarkable and loving. Listening to this recording, and the one Mery helped design the art for, of Million Miles always brings a stream of tears from the depth of I really don’t know where. It just touches my soul, every time, as if I am listening to it for the first time. What you said about her grandpa and her helping people in the Oslo streets when Angelina was young makes so much sense and reveals a part of the depth.

She wrote this not long after her grandfather passed away and is singing to him. She was very close to him and had a painful period not having him around. The music video she created with the help of her grandmother, who is the one who influenced her direction in music by playing it all the time as she grew up. From a posting she put on Facebook dated March 4, 2018, " Our family lost a treasure today, my grandfather passed away. He was very close to me and have always supported me in everything I did. He always made me smile, laugh and gave me great life lessons. He was a man who got respect from all over the town, always helped people in need, he was the definition of a true gentleman and generous man with a big heart. He will be remembered by homeless people he helped to be able to make a living. He was in deep pain for a couple of months now, he will no longer suffer from the pain. May he rest in peace, our memories together will stay forever in my heart. Until we meet again. (heart emoji)", with his photo.

AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 21 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years, and toured with Streisand, accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. The main pianist, a five-time nominated for Grammys, Shelly Berg, stated in all his years working with the greatest vocalist, he had never encountered a talent like AJ. Did I forget to mention Jimmy Z, the famous Sax Player who worked with Rod Steward, Etta James, the Eurythmics, and Doctor Dre, was part of the band for the show? Jimmy stated that AJ was the best he has ever played for. Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California played the guitar, and was the MC of the show. Rob has been working with AJ from the very 1st day Republic signed her at age 14. (I can't list the complete backgrounds on all the band members because it would take several pages to do them justice.) Angelina stated that she would rather perform than take a breath, and she has never been forced to perform, it has been her decision. Angelina Jordan is top priority for both Stargate Production Co. (Beyonce, Rihanna, Sam Smith), and the largest record company in the world, Republic. AJ's first album for Republic is supposed to drop sometime this year.

Grandma Ellen with the awesome link. Love that one so much. Man does she go hard for him there. It's less perfect, but my favorite of her 5 versions of that song I've seen for whatever reason. Maybe because she's a bit starstruck and nervous and humble. Stumbling over thank you's at the end. And exhausted. Super cute. We don't get to see her push it a lot because she shouldn't do it often as a kid. But does this sitting down after likely a day in the studio.

Having lost my wife a few years back, I listen to this song every day & every time it brings tears to my eyes, but also comfort. As good as this studio version is with Angelina at 14, IMHO her recent live concert performance at age 16: "Million Miles - Live at Kongsberg 2022" is even better! Whether or not you react to it, you should check it out. Btw - Angelina did another song in tribute to her grandfather - Always On My Mind (I believe this was shortly after the funeral). Nice reaction! I am primarly a jazz lover, and to me Angelina is by heart a jazz singer. Maybe that is why I find her older stuff more interesting. She has matured vocaly of course, and is more technically refined, but the feeling and emotion has been there from the very start. It’s even more pronounced because most songs are very raw in production and often with only a piano or guitar accompagnig her. Or a simple sound track. But her live performances has always been stunning. Usually with a very competent band of jazz musicians. May I suggest that you listen to her two versions of « My funny valentine»? At 16 with a video from an antique store, and at 10, sitting at home with a soundtrack. One is very well prouced, the other very simply so.

The reference to walking the streets is about the fact that her grandfather took a very young Angelina with him when he helped the homeless people in Oslo with food and support. This had a big impact on her and shaped her view of the world. She has sung at a lot of charity events and later she was seen helping the homeless in LA but she doesn't make a big deal out of this. She is just a very humble and modest beautiful human.

Thank you Rosalie for the beautiful reaction! Angelina puts a lot of emotions in everything she sings, but for her own songs she takes it yet a level further. "Million Miles" was the most impactful song in concert in Norway this summer, it was a scream of grief that touched the bottom of your soul. But she also was very happy to be finally back on stage again. Btw, I find it interesting that you organize the playlists for country, but so my favorite artists are in the same list. ;)

At her concert in Kurbadhagen Norway this past July, she slowed Million Miles down and made it even better. She's playing with some of the same musicians of when she was living in Norway, like the double bass player is one of them. He looks at her like a proud father figure when she hits the extended high notes to emote crying at the end. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ2rYYN5abV4hrM

Song is about her maternal grandfather. In concert she says this is for all those who have lost a loved one.
