BabyMetal was formed around the main singer because the producer discovered her voice was strong enough to cut thru the Metal music like candy. Live is best, the singer is older now and her voice is even better, and the music is twice as heavy. The two backup vocals/dancers are also cheerleaders and keep the crown pumped up to a frenzy that is unreal. You are hooked, the dopey BabyMetal smile is the sign, we all get that smile.

Lol yeah apparently it’s been played on my channel before. I’m an editor for other peeps who do reactions so I either pulled a clip from that, potentially my daughter checked them out before, or it just played whenever I have YT up and editing. Full transparency, i could have jammed that and totally didn’t realize whom I was listening to. I have YT up all the time just going through videos while I play games and such. Either way, this reaction was my first time being present and in the moment absorbing this band. I have passed up so many other potential videos to react to since I have already seen them. Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥 Nice song to start your journey, it's one of BM classics songs and it's a regular in any of their setlist when playing live. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26. *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. *MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 21 and is the new official member since April 1st last year. None of them are related. After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said. About this song: They were quite young in this one but wait to see Doki Doki Morning or Iine!!, you can enjoy this song with the live sound of the Kami Band at Budokan 2014 or Budokan 2021 with the new formation. Fans were totally rocking and having so much fun watching this every night at the World Tour 2023, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shanenigans when performing live between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal )and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts. This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want. So, at this point, I just want to remark that they are better live and very diverse musically as they like to mix any music genre with metal. So, always expect the unexpected. Great first reaction (and great choice of song to start with), welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 'Megitsune is, as you said 10 years old now, it was released in 2013 so Su-metal (you were right, she is the lead vocalist) was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal (in charge of choreo, backing vocals, harmonies but mainly leading the crowd, getting them involved and giving them cues when to jump, pump their fists, sing along etc) were 13 - not quite 14 when this video was made. It often tops polls for fans favourite song and they have played it live more than any other (a good follow up would be the live performance at PIA Arena last April - the link is in the comments). BABYMETAL were formed in 2010, the brainchild and passion project of their metalhead producer Kei Kobayashi who was inspired to try this mad idea of fusing metal with JPop hooks, melodies, aesthetics and vocals after seeing lead singer Su-metal with her previous group and being so impressed by her vocal talents and stage presence. He thought it might just inject some youth into and help rejuvenate the stagnant metal and rock music scene - as it was in Japan at that time. They were formed as a sub-unit of a JPop Idol group (called Sakura Gakuin - Cherry Blossom Academy) set up by the Amuse Talent Agency to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented young girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment with the aim of them choosing what they wanted to do as a career when they left school. Amuse were not impressed with the idea and only allowed Kobayashi his pet project because there was no financial risk - they provided no extra funding and assumed it would be a short lived (and failed) experiment that would end after the lead singer reached 15 and would graduate from the parent group and from school to continue/begin her singing career. Against all the odds and everybody's expectations they found an audience nobody knew would exist and started to gain popularity in their own right, so it was decided they should split from Sakura Gakuin to become an independent band in their own right after the lead singer turned 15 and would graduate - she was 15 in December 2012 and the split happened in 2013. 'Megitsune' was the first song they released after the split. When they started in 2010 the three members (Su-metal - lead vocalist, Yuimetal and Moametal - backing vocals, harmonies and in charge of hyping and involving the crowd through their choreo) were aged 12, 11 and 11. We have watched them grow up and become one of the very best live acts on the planet. Yuimetal last performed in October 2017 and was absent for 12 months for health reasons until she announced she was still not fully recovered and would be leaving the band. Su and Moa continued as a duo for 4 or 5 years supported from 2019 by 3 dancers who would take turns dancing in the third spot until 1st April 2023 when one of those dancers, Momoko, was finally revealed as the new official third member (she is now known as Momometal). BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they brought a fusion of great metal instrumentals coupled with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics to create their very own sub-genre (which is why they are called BABYMETAL - it signifies that they invented their own sub-genre, a new style of metal ... it is also a bit of a Japanese pun with BABYMETAL and heavy metal sounding and being written almost identically) and they have continued to develop and evolve from those beginnings. They don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world, they are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off often bland music). BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it is designed to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement. They are also the biggest and most successful Japanese band there has ever been internationally - first Japanese band to play their own solo show at Wembley Arena in 2016, sold out the Tokyo Dome (55,000 people) two nights running, also 2016, first Asian (not just Japanese) band to have an album at number 1 in the US Billboard Hard Rock charts - that was 2019. To see them at one of their arena shows in Japan you have to enter a lottery to win the chance to buy tickets. Last year they played 94 concerts in 25 countries. They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. They first appeared in October 2012 and became the full time support for all live shows from March 2014. You didn't see them in this video (the guys at the back were dancers) ... early on BABYMETAL did not have the funding for a live band so the instrumentals were pre-recorded and played on the backing track. The Kami Band was phased in from October 2012 playing at a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows. In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced and they have been supporting BABYMETAL on their more extended foreign tours since then. They have nearly 70 songs now, every one of them is different from the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal, often when you least expect it. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song no problem - try another, the chances are you'll love it. You will get a lot of good recommendations and suggestions for more songs - go with any of them, you can't go far wrong, but remember - although the official videos are all good and worth seeing, BABYMETAL are a live performance act - that is where you will always see - and hear - them at their very best.

I fell down this foxhole in 2016 and they opened a new world of Rock and Metal for me by introducing me to many new bands, mostly female and Metal and Rock as it gets. I haven't looked west since - Babymetal, Band-Maid, Nemophila, Lovebites and many others are all holding the Rock and Metal torches - and they're burning bright. They all shine brightest live - maybe start with Babymetal's 'Road of Resistance live in Japan' or some of their most recent stuff, which is on YT.

An excellent choice for a first Babymetal song. Megitsune is considered one of their most iconic songs that they peform at almost every live show they do, and is their most performed song. This video was released almost eleven years ago, when the girls were 15 and 13 years old. Babymetal are Japan's most internationally famous musical act. They are managed by the Amuse talent agency, which is the largest talent management company in Japan. The group began in 2010 when Amuse producer Key "Kobametal" Kobayashi came up with the idea of combining J-pop with heavy metal because he wanted to revive interest in metal in Japan, and thought that blending the two would be a good way to make metal more approachable to new audiences. Babymetal call their blend of metal music and J-pop vocals, dance, and aesthetics "kawaii metal" (cute metal). Babymetal started as a sub-unit of the J-pop idol group Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy), which was an idol group for teenage girls themed around school life and afterschool clubs; Babymetal was the juonbu (heavy music club). After a few years, as Babymetal became more and more popular, they separated from Sakura Gakuin and became an independent act in 2013. The original founding lineup of Babymetal was lead vocalist Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto), who was 12 years old at the time of the group's formation, backing vocalist and dancers Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) who were both 10. Su-metal and Moametal continue as members of Babymetal to this day, but Yuimetal retired from Babymetal in 2018 due to illness. In April 2023, Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) became the new third member of the group, after performing with them as a backup dancer for four years. As others have said, Megitsune is probably the best Babymetal video to get you started. The classic Gimme Chocolate is fun, but I think it might give some brand new listeners pause due to the extreme kawaii attack it gives you lol. Seriously, this music video deserves actual industry awards for it's brilliantly put together interpretation of the song. You absolutely *must* check out live versions of their songs, as they are unbeatable as a live act. And for extra fun, look for fan cams of this song and keep an eye out for the breakdown section. Moa tends to pull faces and other things at the others to get them to crack up.

Lol yeah apparently it’s been played on my channel before. I’m an editor for other peeps who do reactions so I either pulled a clip from that, potentially my daughter checked them out before, or it just played whenever I have YT up and editing. Full transparency, i could have jammed that and totally didn’t realize whom I was listening to. I have YT up all the time just going through videos while I play games and such. Either way, this reaction was my first time being present and in the moment absorbing this band. I have passed up so many other potential videos to react to since I have already seen them. Good reaction! This song gives you an idea of what they are, but you have to see them live. I suggest to look how they grew up, listening some songs from the Pia Arena concert of 2023, for example Monochrome or Divine Attack. Then you can go back to their beginnings, with their first big concert outside Asia, listening Ijime Dame Zettai at Sonisphere Festival, in UK in 2014 in front of 60.000 metal heads that didn't know who they were. Or the incredible performance of Road of Resistance live in japan (official), in 2015. Trust me, if you don't see it, you won't believe me if I tell you about it. The reason you hadn't heard about them before is that they don't belong to any (western) major media company.

BABYMETAL has so many good tracks that it's hard to choose an absolute favorite - but mine is probably "From Dusk Till Dawn," which is an absolute masterpiece in terms of production/arrangement, tone, vocals, and mood - and, just as an interesting bonus, it's also one of the few BABYMETAL songs sung entirely in English (they have about 5 or 6 all English songs at this point). Other favorites include Headbanger!!, Brand New Day, and Monochrome. FYI, their newest album titled "The Other One, released just around a year ago, is excellent from beginning to end, and really illustrates how this band has really come into its own as a world-class musical act. Anyway, nice reaction. You should definitely next time react to BABYMETAL's live stuff - almost everyone will tell you that their live stuff is the way to go, as they are one of the top performing live acts in the world today and they put on next-level arena shows.

Live Babymetal is the best Babymetal 😎. This is one of their better MVs, and as good as it is, it's not as good as a live version. The crowd engagement is incredible, Su-metal the main vocalist sounds even better, the band kicks arse and Moa/Yui/Momo the dancers/backup vocals take what's already an amazing band and dial it up to 11. Try Headbanger live at Legend 1997, Ijime Dame Zettai at Sonisphere 2014 or the official video for Road of Resistance. You'll be hooked like the rest of us 😊 Also, the strength of their discography is amazing, the quality of songwriting means you will literally find 30 other songs as good as Megitsune, or pretty damn close.

Welcome to the foxhole. Way back in 2010 LOL. For some folks, I guess. Babymetal was formed. And then they had to earn their strips in the metal world like many bands did back then. By singing everywhere they could. Which meant back then if you happen to be in Japan you could have seen them sing for free in the mall. Today seeing them for free only happens on youtube. Their concerts are must have ticket items. It's been said their shows are life altering experiences. Leaving folks walking around happy for months at a time. This is what they do. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music. And believe it. There is a galaxy of music in there. While musically their music is Jpop vocals over a heavy metal base with whatever genre of music in the middle. They have grown to be much more than when they started. Today their mix of genres into metal is so smooth you have to listen to it a few times before you can catch it all. Heck sometimes years later you may give a song a listen and then the lights shines. and you hear it. As to why you never listened to Babymetal before. Well, Babymetal sometimes it's just that they're waiting for when you're ready to listen to them. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

@@driftervoyages yes and almost. Since they were just starting out they only had a few songs. It took 4 years of them proving themselves to their entertainment company Amuse! Inc. Like many bands they did some cover tunes. Su did 2 and Yui and Moa each had 1. They're all good fun to watch and react to. They're not straight covers. They picked songs that were hits from the years they were born and Babymetalized them.

Well, you’ve opened a can of worms! BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around for a bit over thirteen years now (they started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the band in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer. BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. Their early music was more geared towards a younger audience like Give Me Chocolate, which was the first song of theirs I heard a long time ago that kind of turned me off of them. Their music has changed quite a bit over time though. I saw a live performance of this one (and yes I know this was an early song of theirs as well) on KZbin a few months ago and have been sucked into the foxhole as their fans call it. Highly recommend Road of Resistance or Pa Pa Ya for a live performance.

It was released in Japan on June 19, 2013 as the fifth single from the album Babymetal. It is also the first single released independently from the idol group Sakura Gakuin. 👍 👍 BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old. All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. In the beginning Amuse showed little interest and the girls had minimal financing. They performed at strip malls and small venues borrowing clothes for shows from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They quickly became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to HQ pro shot videos of LIVE performances instead of official MV's (the reason is that the vast majority of MV's use studio audio over LIVE footage AND without the awesome Kami Band instrumentals) They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
