Watching a first time reaction to this rarely fails to entertain. The sudden realisation of being in the presence of greatness. Its a materpiece, structured and sounding like no other. Its 51 years old and still has this effect. The live version to listen to is the 'Made in Japan' live version from 1972. Its a jam, twice as long as this and Ive yet to hear a better live track, any track yet in over 40 years. Truly a moment you wont ever forget. In answer to your question, Blackmore used a Gibson ES - 335 for this. This was replaced by a Strat immediately after this album and is what he became famous as a master of.

Great reaction. Everyone always does the live version and it's great don't get me wrong but the studio version is supreme. Shit really hits hard. I'd like to recommend a song from this guitarist's other band. Rainbow - Stargazer (live in Cologne) it's 17 fucking minutes long but I don't care if you make a reaction video or not, I'd just like you to listen to it on your own time and take the journey, you'll not regret it.

My first concert (as an 11-year-old) in 1971 in Adelaide: Deep Purple, Free, Manfred Mann - and if that wasn't enough ... Fraternity was a support act (!) with singer Bon Scott (later of AC/DC). Amazing that Gillan, Glover, and Paice still did Sydney 35 years later. True musicians.

This is one of my favorite songs ever and the live version I find it even better. If I may send a recommendation I recommend Burn, it was the first without Gillan on vocals and Glover on bass and instead it had David Coverdale (later the founder of Whitesnake) and Glenn Hughes of Trapeze and several other groups. Another song is Stargazer by Rainbow, it has Ritchie (who left Purple after the Stormbringer album) and founded Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio. If you do check it out then hope you enjoy them and as always keep up the great work man!

Hi my brother. Deep Purple was never into drugs at all in this line up. I'm a professional musician. I was around back then. This was recorded on 16 track reel to reel. No auto tune, no protools, no click track. Understand this is the first heavy metal album along with Black Sabbath. People argue over who invented what we call metal today. It was both these bands. Zeppelin is more blues rock. But there name is thrown into the hat also. This album was a direct response by the band to up stage Zeppelin and they did in metal terms. They also wrote a concerto for a Orchestra. Prior to this album and Ritchie Blackmore one of the greatest guitarist in the world just behind hendrix and Eddie VH. said to Jon Lord keys if this album fails I'll play orchestras for the rest of my life Jon Lord was actually a composer classical trained musician also. The singer you hear what he's doing is called tracking he would sing the verse then he would sing it again a little bit different thats what's called tight or loose tracking with vocals harmonies. He's the only one in the world that time that could sing five octaves. By the way he is the singer on the song Jesus Christ Superstar just for your fans knowledge. Ian paice is one of the greatest drummers of all time Lars from metallica idolized him. Rodger Glover doesn't get the credit bass players usually don't. But he produced bands like Judas Priest and Nazareth I hope you young school folks can all understand the amount of immense talent that these individuals had back in the 70s especially Deep Purple by far the best out of the big three I recorded on reel-to-reel my self. Also recorded with now pro tools. reel-to-reel if the drums are off you have to cut tape if you're lucky enough to find an engineer that could actually do it. very seldom could you fix the drums ever. Pro tools you just cut and paste to fix 99% of the mistakes. With reel to reel you had to play it over again so what you hear from this album is what you actually get it's honest it's raw the energy musicianship is insane.
