Great story telling by one of the best to do it. Laid over one of the smoothest, but grimiest beats you ever heard. That's what makes Eric B and Rakim such a potent duo. ✌🏾

Good reaction. Classic selection. Flow. Rhyme scheme. Storytelling. Lesson. Vocal tone….this is a good example of why Rakim is on many people’s G.O.A.T. list.

@@PRSPR Of course. No doubt. Also, Ayatollah Khomeini was the leader of Iran, & Anwar Sadat (former president of Egypt), was referring to the conflicts they had with Israel back in the day. I remember they was always in the news for some bullshit, back in the day. Lol. Keep doing your thing, brother.

Yes, he said Elliot Ness in reference to the agent who lead the investigation that put Al Capone away for tax invasion. Ayatolla Khomeini was the supreme religious leader in Iran who became a boogeyman to the USA in the 80s. Resume refers to his reputation and body of work in the streets.

Peace. Don’t Sweat The Technique dropped 30 years ago and rhymes are still relevant. ‘Casualties Of War’, ‘Pass The Hand Grenade’, ‘What’s on Ya Mind’, and the title track are worth reacting to. You’ll be amazed at how well these songs have aged and demonstrate how history repeats itself. Yes, know the ledge is knowledge, relating back to the lessons.

Know The Ledge = Knowledge It’s strictly a play on words. Not cuz of the movie. It means if you have the knowledge or not with the way the life one is living, the actions the take and the way they live- Knowing the ledge means you’re life is straight and you’re living it right because you have the knowledge to do so. Not knowing the ledge means you didn’t have the knowledge of a good way to live and to contribute to society in a positive way. Not knowing/having the knowledge means you fell off in life, so you fell off the ledge, the ledge of life. Pure genius by The R. This song was first on their album then on the Juice movie soundtrack. No one can put lyrics together like this and flow the way he does, even to this day. And this is in 1992!. He literally changed the rap game lyrically in 1986. The GOAT. The GOD. The R. Verse 1: “Sip the juice, I got enough to go around And the thought takes place Uptown I grew up on the sidewalk where I learned street talk And then taught to hawk New York I go to Queens for queens, then get the crew from Brooklyn Make money in Manhattan and never been tooken Go Uptown in The Bronx to Boogie Down Get Strong on the Island, recoup and lay around Time to build my juice back up Props stack up, suckers get smacked up Don't doubt the clout, you know what I'm about Knockin' niggas off, knockin' niggas out Shakin' 'em up, wakin' 'em up Breakin' 'em up, rakin' 'em up Standin' on shaky ground too close to the edge Let's see if I Know the Ledge” Verse 2: “Corner's triflin' 'cause shorty's here I get cock-D liftin' forties of beer Here's a sip for the crew that's deceased If I get revenge, then they rest in peace Somebody gotta suffer, I just might spare one And give a brother a fair one Stay alert and on P's, and I do work with these like Hercules Switch to southpaw, split your right jaw 'Cause I don't like y'all, I'm hype when night fall Smooth, but I move like an army Bulletproof down in case brothers try to bomb me Puttin' brothers to rest like Alien Ness 'Cause I don't like stress Streets ain't the place for innocent bystanders to stand Nothing's gonna stop the plan I'll chill like Pacino, kill like DeNiro Black Gambino, die like a hero Livin' on shaky grounds, too close to the edge Let's see if I Know the Ledge” Verse 3: “Shells lay around on the battleground Dead bodies are found throughout the town Try to put shame in my game to make a name I'mma put it on a bullet, put it in your brain Rip the block like a buckshot Who cares where it goes? Just keep the casket closed No remorse when a life is lost I paid my dues, paid the cost And my pockets are still fat Wherever I'm at, I get the welcome mat Even if my crew is steep with one deep I attract attention, people like to peep So come say hi to the bad guy Don't say goodbye, I don't plan to die 'Cause I get loose and I got troops, and crazy juice In control of many like Ayatollah Khomeini Hang out with Smith and Wesson', don't try to play me I'm at war a lot, like Anwar Sadat But no warnin' shot, my gun is warm a lot When I cook beef, the smoke will never clear Areas in fear 'cause this here's severe Livin' life too close to the edge Hopin' that I Know the Ledge” Verse 4: “A brand new morn', no time to yawn Shower's on, power's on Late for school, I catch the train Girls sip the style and whisper my name I push up like an exercise Check they intellect and inspect the thighs Select the best one, pull her to the side Keep her occupied for the rest of the ride Read her my résumé, she know already? Cool Just meet me after school We can moan and groan until your moms come home And you'll be callin' me Al "Dope" Capone Sweatin' me, she didn't want to let me loose Come get me, that's if you want to sip the juice 'Cause the streets await me, so I take my gun off safety 'Cause a lot of niggas hate me Comin' out of the building, they set me up Sprayed with automatics, they wet me up In a puddle of blood, I lay close to the edge I guess I didn't Know the Ledge.”

Bro, PLEASE react to KAM - Peace Treaty. It was about the gang truce in the 90s after the LA riots. KAM is Ice Cube's cousin and he can spit. The song has a great message, the beat if fucking crazy, and dude can flow his ass off. It's a must see and I've only seen one reactor hit it. Great reaction on this track though. The R is one of the all-time best to ever do it and this song is a good showcase as to why that is. Rakim and Kool G. Rap had the game on lock back then.

The ayatollaha Khomeini was the religious leader who took control over Iran in the 70,s and brought strict Islamic rules in the country. Almost 50 years later the rules still exist. Anwar Sadat former President of Egypt who was at war with Israël for years but later he signed peace deal. He was shot to dead in 81 buy his own soldiers because of the peace deal , they saw him as a traitor.

@@PRSPR You good man. He's fronting. The lyric is Hawk, New York. It's fits the rhyme scheme and context of the next lines. Hawks symbolize perspective, they see from high above, getting a broader scope i.e. a birds eye view or OVER- view. Hawks are birds of prey, they study and observe their victims, intensely from a distance, then swoop down on them. If you're Hawking someone, you're extremely focused on them. Hawk can even mean to pursue, chase or run down someone( Hawk=Predator). Hawk could mean knife🔪 work, stabbing or Blade(Talon). "I grew up on the sidewalk(1) where I learned street talk(2), And then taught(3) to hawk(4). New York"....Hawk=Overview Then he breaks down 4 boroughs and Long Island in the next lines. Their reputations, his reasons and the resources, for operating in those places. After getting Strong on the Island, recouped and lays around(L.I. is where his crib is). Like another Legend from Strong Island said: Don't Believe The Hype. Show and Prove not Show and Tell.
