Rappers quoting is not biting. They know you know who said it. It's a point of reference a dis or giving props. Biting is taking styles and words and passing it off as your own. Jay-Z quotes rappers in a way that a rap fan knows the line it's a callback reference. And usually he follows the quote with a reference that adds to the quote. Its not sneaky and its not by accident.

Exactly. Like a author reference another author in their book. The credit is the big up to myself and others. That’s a punchline there double meaning. Big up is giving a shout out to someone. I’m this case and fellow artist in rap. And also big up my brother for biggie smalls. He’s big enough to do it. They have songs together and went to high school together. They were close. And again another shout out to Brooklyn where they both from im bigging up my borough and bigging sounds like biggie again. So he’s telling Camron the reason why he sometimes does it and how he explained this by making it a triple quadruple on it as well to show you why he’s own flow is foolish anyway without having to reference others. He’s a beast

The rings and things sing about bring about was also a Biggie line. People that say he’s a biter are just haters. 99.9 percent of his lyrics are his own. I like when he puts Big’s lines in his raps. It’s a way to keep dude alive. Dope reaction.

Agreed. And the way he explains the reason why he says BIG lines and then goes directly into a BIG line is genius. It's like ...."and with that being said, here's another BIG line for you fuckers" Lol

Exactly. I love how jay addresses that he uses bigs lines, then he proceeds to use bugs lines. Classic sarcasm.

Yea Jay wrote for lots of Artists from different genres as well. One of the most popular songs he wrote was Dr Dre - Still Dre from Chronic 2001 album. Story goes, they needed a hot hit single to put out that can match the original Chronic album which was a classic so they wanted the right single but they couldn't figure it out, they also invited lots of west coast Artists to try to write it for Dre but no luck it wasn't what Dre wanted, than they heard Jay was in LA so they invited him over, he did it in one take and the rest is history. 💯💯💯

8:45 Basketball jerseys were the most popular but it was all jerseys. Especially throwback designs. Outkast with Big Boi wearing a vintage Houston Astros jersey in the “Rosa Parks” video is one example.

It's always funny how everyone says Jay steals rappers lines. You can write a book of rappers using his bars.

Perfect example of what he meant when he referenced busting down his lines. Busta said he was upset at first, then after he thought a while he was like "Hey I am animated"

Let me help you out young King he said I will literally kiss TT on the forehead say I'm sorry and then squeeze into your forehead Thats from the movie Set it off with Queen Latifah the character TT got killed they kissed her on the forehead and said they were sorry then they went and started shooting The matha Stewart that's far from Jewish is basically he is successful as Martha stewart without being Jewish The shot up a whole bunch of times is a shot at 50 and the make up shit in a whole bunch of lines is probably at whoever did it But yes him and 50 had beef ever since he said " Im about a dollar what the fuck is 50 cent' 50 never liked him since that . I will be honest after I heard this and Jay ran down the reasons why he should be #1 I put him #1 lol

Yea you were spot on with all that, alot of people didn't get the Set it Off reference. But yea 50 started it with the "How to Rob" song. Funny thing is Jay saw 50 not long after that and told him "I love that song, but you know I come back on you". And that's when he came back with the "I'm a bout a dollar wtf is 50 cent?" line.

I love this song!!! One of my favorite Jay-Z songs. The Buchanans laced this beat. Love that Whattup B line, we knew he was shouting out Beyonce but didnt know they were dating. Martha Stewart is worth 800 Million. She started with a catering buisness and turned into a TV personailty and cookingware and lifestyle buisnesswoman. Jay just saying i started from nothing and built an empire.

Not everything is a subliminal shot he was saying he didn't get his buzz by getting shot a whole bunch of times like 50 cent did. That's not a diss or subliminal that's just stating a fact. One thing I did notice about this generation is y'all be trying to find this isn't subliminals that aren't even there. It is in fact a very uncommon thing. A rapper for sale stepping a white man's shoes and everybody would be like he's dissin Eminem. Y'all got to chill with that. And 50 and Jay they respect each other. 50 got famous from a song called how to rob where he talked about Robbing all the famous rappers. 50 and Nas used to be tight. Nas took 50 backstage to a Summer Jam I think it was. That's when 50 first met Jay Z 50 cent say Jay Z told him I like that how to rob song but you know I got to get you back right. Then he went out on stage 50 cent said I knew he was going to give me back but I didn't know he meant right now During his performance Jay-Z said the bar I'm about a dollar what the f*** is 50 cent Crowd went crazy. 50 cent pretty much had words for everybody except Jay Z from that day on.He aint want that smoke

Cam’ron ruined the legacy of this track in my opinion. The way he flipped the line Jay used to pay homage to Biggie on Swagger Jacker to showcase Jay’s biting is why I don’t look at this track the same anymore. it’s a shame because this is easily one of Jay’s most legendary songs and one of the my favorites from him. This album will forever be a classic.
