This song comes out not too long after she became a mother. "I was the only one" (that I ever cared about). "Now that I have grown" (Into a mother) "I'll never be the same because of you" (my daughter). All her music from this time has a pretty interesting look at life. She was so used to being single, famous, having money, and getting whatever she wants. All of a sudden she has this little human who needs her, and loves her unconditionally. Something she hasn't experienced, in a long time if at all

Have a lot of Kabalist meaning to: "Everything I give you, all comes back to me" is about Karma, "Nothing really matters, love is all we need" Nothing material is most value than love and about not being selfish. The four elements: earth, represented by the wood; air, the levitation; fire, the malabarism and the water bags

The dancers are making Butoh dance! Butoh is an artistic manifestation that was born after the war and constantly seeks to reflect on Japanese culture after the nuclear disaster. Visually it's recognized for the use of erratic and grotesque movements, in many cases repetitive. Butoh themes are usually topics about identity, anxiety, chaos, criticism of postwar society, the construction of gender and sexual orientation. butoh is a danced lament, a writhing in the human condition. One of the visual references of its creators was the half-dead bodies that crawled through the rubble after the detonation of the Hiroshima nuclear bomb.

She wasn’t an only child. She was the third of six children but the oldest daughter. Her mother died of cancer when she was just 5 and she has been very open, in her music, about how that affected and shaped her. But this song is really about her feelings after she had her first child, her daughter, Lourdes. The realization that the fame and fortune she’d been chasing for years were nothing compared to the love she felt for her child.
@gregyear2016 ай бұрын
“I was the only one” refers to her thinking of only herself and “everything has changed” refers to her daughter. “Love is all we need” Thanks for your insightful reaction.

In 1995 she did „take a bow“ and send the video to the producers of „Evita“ and 4 Page letter and she got the part.in 1999 she wanted to get the part in „the Geisha“ and yes she is singing about her daughter

'When I was very young, I was the only one' - as in, I was the only one I was concerned with, self-centered, egotistical. 'All that changed because of you' - her daughter. Everything I give you, all comes back to me...kinda the basis of karma and at the heart of her new found religion of that time - kabbalah. References to the light are also references to kabbalah. Conceptually, this isn't the easiest video to grasp the meaning of. BTW, she has 7 siblings.

Although not a big top 100 hit - it was the 6th single from the Ray of Light album, all the prior releases were considered hit songs. And, not a top 100 hit, it was a #1 dance club hit and one of her 50 #1 dance club songs. If you consider reacting to a complete Madonna album, Ray of Light should be consider. It won several grammys including album of the year. During the grammy show, she performed Nothing really Matters. During that later portion of album promotion Madonna' was inspired by the book 'Memoirs of a Geisha' and changed her look - perhaps campaigning to be cast in the movie version, regardless of the reason, the new look, middle part straight dark shoulder length hair, was stunning. To see an excellent reinvented version (she is always known for reinventing her songs during tours) watch the opening of the current Celebration tour - there's a memorable moment, while singing 'I'll never be the same, because of you' she motions to all in attendance as a way of saying to her fans - you are why I'll never be the same.

6:34 You see that bix, that everybody is gathered around? Its called a Monolith. In the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, there is a similar scene, where a bunch of apes gather around the same type of box. The box is an alien device that lifts the consciousness of the apes and they become humans. When Madonna is dressed in the red kimono, she's actually inside that box. She represents the hightened consciousness. Shes using her platform to lift our consciousness (the apes). The water bags represent our selfish desires. At the beginning of the video, all those people dressed in white are standing in line and carrying them bags. They're basically NPCs. And Madonna shows that shebwas the biggest NPC of all in the first scene when she's holding a bag of nothing, on a pedestal. There's a character in Memoirs of a Geisha that she's referencing with the Jaoanses costuming, but that's a whole other story. By the end of the video, the people outside the box (us) start floating to the cieling (they're getting enlightened or reaching a higher state of consciousness). Songs and videos like this are not uncommon when artists reach superduper stardom. Michael Jackson did it with Black or White and They Don't Care About Us. *Katie Perry did it with Chained to the Rhythm (which I recommend as a reaction)* next time. Lady Gaga did it with Born this Way. It's the existential crisis of fame.

Despite not being a big hit at the time (although it is one of her 50 number 1 on the billboard dance list) Nothing Really Matters became a fan favorite from minute 1. It is the song with which she opens her current world tour, The Celebration Tour (85 sold out dates) and the first time she sings it on a tour. And it's a magical moment. The video is a real bizarre inspired by the book Memories of a Geisha and the camera movements of the then famous PlayStation Metal Gear game, and one of my favorites

I heard of this video was inspired by a Japanese film.... This is awesome for 1998 album ray of light . She had just become a mother for the first time and reflecting on her life She has one of eight siblings. She always comes up with very unique and artistic videos funny thing that in the early 2000s VH1 bad videos that happened to good artists this video made that list lol

The music video for Madonna's song "Nothing Really Matters" is rich in symbolic imagery and thematic depth, reflecting the song's messages about love and materialism. In the video, Madonna is seen dressed in a red kimono, which represents traditional Japanese culture and could symbolize passion, life, and the heart. This choice highlights the theme of the essentiality of love over material wealth. The video incorporates fluid choreography and uses water imagery, possibly alluding to purification, rebirth, and the flow of life’s changes. Throughout the video, the interplay of personal transformation and the relinquishing of material desires is evident, aligning with the lyrics that prioritize human connection and emotional authenticity over superficial concerns.
