They also reused the line "Full speed or nothing" in the chorus for "Lux Aeterna" on the new album. Motorhead was the biggest influence on Metallica aside from other bands like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Judas Priest just to name a few.
@metalmark1214 Жыл бұрын
This song is about living in the fast lane, not sitting back and letting life go by. The Motorhead influence is seen right in the title. James Hetfield wrote this song with his high school friend Hugh Tanner before Metallica was even formed

James is a gearhead/car-guy, also see: “Fuel” and the music video for “I Disappear” for proof. 100 proof that is, HAHAHA. Ya know the bands off-color nickname was Alcoholica, for how much they drank?

The first line of Hit the Lights (actually the first line of the first song of the first album), 'No life till leather" also refers to the Motörhead album "No Sleep Till Hammersmith".

Sounds like a lot of substance use references and metaphors about living fast (obviously) In the early days of Metallica and Megadeth, they were both living wrecklessly and they kind of worthipped Lemmy (as one does) who was an absolute... well he liked to go fast. Love and peace.

If you've never heard Moorhead then you gotta check them out! They're big song is Ace Of Spades although Overkill and Killed By Death are great songs too! They are earlier Heavy Metal than Metallica and Iron Maiden and Metallica has covered various Moorhead songs over the years. If your gonna try some Moorhead start with Ace Of Spades their biggest song! As usual you have great reaction videos keep them coming!
@captaincapitalism264 Жыл бұрын
While not among my favorites from this outstanding album, it's still great thrash with cool lyrics. That riff underneath the solos, and which closes out the song too, is so damn metal. As some others here have commented, I think James (& others) wrote this song back when he was still in high school...so don't look for Shakespeare but near-punk style. I can't wait for you to get to Phantom Lord, No Remorse, Whiplash, and Am I Evil?...!! 🤘

"Motorbreath" just like "Motorhead" are waaaays old slang for being on Speed/Amphetamines, if the synthesis wasnt done 100% correct Speed carries a slight chemical smell of almonds/marzipan others may detect, you see somebody full of energy trashing out and smelling like a bakery... ;-)
@stephenlawson3071 Жыл бұрын
Motorbreath describes a speed freak's actual breath smell, meth-mouth would be another, "...the sign of living fast, takes you destroys you, takes your breath away." Pretty obvious to any who have dabbled in that life.

James Hetfield is a huge fan of fast wheels and hotrods... but back in the day when he was a teenager, he was too broke to afford a car 🤣 but I'm guessing that James fantasized about life in the fast lane and driving like a maniac when he wrote 'Motorbreath' (this was before Metallica had formed)... 😈
