Admittedly, as your first reaction with subtitles you also chose an extreme song by Rammstein. Rammstein's lyrics are not only ambiguous, but often also provocative. The band's lyrics often reflect the dark sides of the human psyche and life. And this song is one of the heavier ones. Please continue with lyrics reactions, because Rammstein is so much more fun (especially live when their show and the lyrics come together) if you understand the lyrics :) greetings from Germany

Hi there, it is about hurting oneself. " I see your face in the mirror". Many people are doing this every day, physically or mentally. In my opinion, it is good to open peoples minds about such topics. Great song! And it is a great song!

Rammstein songs often aren't easy to understand. Often they have a backstory, if you don't know the backstory you simply can't get it at all. Then they also have a lot of double meanings which also makes it harder. Even as a native german you can't understand the meaning of a lot of Rammstein songs without knowing the story behind it. In this one the most important sentence in this song is: "Ich seh im Spiegel dein Gesicht". Which would be translated like "I see your face in the mirror". But you have to think what this means. If you see your face in the mirror it is yourself! So everything what the person is saying in this songs means she/he does it to herself/ hisself. And after you know that you also understand the sentence "Du liebst mich, denn ich lieb dich nicht" which is "You love me because I don't love you". Because everything is reverted (like it is in the mirror). So the person does everything to itself all the time. The sentence: "Du bist das Schiff, ich der Kapitän, wohin soll denn die Reise gehen?" (You are the ship, I am the captain, where should the journey go?) Gets much clearer then too. Like translated in real meaning would be someting like "you are the body, I am the brain/soul which navigate, where should we go, what should we do?"... It's about a difficult topic, people who cut, scratch, mutilate themselves, and do other even worse things to themselves. Because it might feel better in the moment or distract from even worse mental pain. I think you know what I mean. Difficult to describe, and even more difficult to check this in another language. Rammstein is often difficult, ambiguous, poetic and then every now and then there is a strand that runs through different songs, especially if you include the videos too. 1:1 translation sometimes work, but like always with different language there will be some lost in translation also, especially if it goes with common phrases of countries or poetic. Also for example "Du blutest für mein Seelenheil, ein kleiner Schnitt und du wirst geil" -> "You bleed for my soul salvation, a small cut and you get horny" After you know what the song is about it is very clear why the person is doing it. Musically it's just an A+. Love Till singing "Ich tu' dir weeeeeh, tut mir nicht leeeeeeid......". But the deeper meaning in everyting of it makes it extra special for me.

This song is about the pain of self-harm. For some, hurting yourself is a liberating feeling. With this feeling, at some point you no longer have control over your situation and the pain becomes the captain.

Rammsteins lyrics are always gritty. The lead singer is also a poet and the son of a kinda famous poet. To conquer his stage fright he began to become a persona on stage and isolate himself from his real self. The lyrics also reflect that. I mean they have songs from the perspective of a rape victim, the perspective of a cannibal, the perspective of a country or of whatever not... :D Take the songs and lyrics never as something they say but more spoken out of the perspective of someone else a lot of times

Actually, you are right. "I see your face in the mirror" is a very important verse but very often omitted during interpretation. Ppl tend to agree that this is a self-reflecting song that describes a person's dark relationship with himself. It could be Till himself since he is well known for his love for pain. The scars on his body are real - he did this to himself for the video of the piano version of "Mein Herz Brennt" which I definitely recommend watching (no live version but official video).

This song is indeed, something else. At first the lyrics seem to point in one direction but then a single line flips it all around and on the person itself. Person with serious problems. Oh well, life's weird at times. People even more so.

don't worry Ladies, you got it, the song is about self harm and the clue is the line about seeing himself in the mirror, well spotted, lookin' forward to your next R+ reaction and as for touring Canada and North America and south America where the band are huge, I wouldn't hold your breath for the mo..I know Till is coming to America on his solo tour but as for Rammstein, no plans at the mo, but who knows? but if they do come to Canada in the next couple of years, you must see them, you never regret it.
