Stevie. Has always been the man. Connected to that guitar like an extension of his soul. That was just his warm up. His music was so vibrant soulful and insane. You can feel every single note he plays deep in your guts. This man rips the emotion out of you he was so insanely talented. Nothing and no one has ever came close.

The man had the most amazing hands, he used 13/14 gauge strings. His hand strength was amazing, in order to be able to bend those strings you have to have the strength to bend them to sound the way they do when he played. I had the opportunity to see him in Los Angeles in the 80's and he was absolutely incredible his playing was so seamless and soulful it was something to see let me tell you. Gone way too soon. Peace from Cali.

SRV was one of those who would have played the music whether anyone came to watch or not. It was not about the money and celebrity status its just what he had to do to keep living, kind of like breathing haha. You just got to come into his private space and watch him, then leave. But you know that even when no one was there, he was the same person, playing with everything he had in him. And you just know the band was so into it, all lost in their own selves, feeling the music and just enjoying what was happening between just them and SRV. Must have been so awesome with just musicians enjoying the art they are making. Oh and an SRV sound check is 10 times better than any concert you would go to today.

SRV was playing at a college near me and I went early to make sure I got a ticket. I heard SRV music coming from a building on the campus and guessed that is where he would be playing and thought one of his records was being played to kinda advertise the show, but it wasn't a record, SRV was doing a sound check and I watched him for about 15 minutes before someone figured out I wasn't supposed to be there and shooed me off. Good show that night, Third Stone From the Sun.
@nelsonx53265 жыл бұрын
@Bill Cook I stood 2' from the stage, I was like, alone, except for the sound board guy and maybe a couple others. I was into guitar and got to see some of his special effects like that drone he does on Texas Flood, see what he does. This was before youtube and we can study guitarists techniques up close from home. Another time me and my drinking buddy went to NYC to try and get tickets to SRV but we couldn't. but SRV's drinking buddy Lonnie Mack was playing at the Lone Star on 13th street so we went to see him. Guess who showed up at the Lone Star. Hint, his initials are SRV. Walked right past me on the way in. It was fast, I recognized because of the tail on his hat. We were hoping he'd do a thing with Lonnie but it never happened. The band that warmed up for Lonnie that night was killer too, called the Wolf Gang, the bands leader played sax for Howling Wolf. (I just looked up The Wolf Gang and the band they showed is not the band I saw). Anyway, the stage was near the bar and the front door. I saw the door open but there was nobody opening it. I didn't see the guy because his legs were only 1' long. I was like, damn. Then he ( a lean old black man in a fedora) crawled on the stage and the rest of the Wolf Gang got on stage and the little guy was the bass guitarist. I forget the sax player/vocalists name, Eddie something, ( the whole band was black blues guys from Chicago I think) but the lead guitarist was 16 years old, Eddies son Eddie Junior something, and this kid had grown up around the blues greats and he fucking ROARED on the guitar like I neva fucking seen. He was so fast and clean. So, I was getting a kick out of The Wolf Gang, but this was really cool... Eddie Senior was singing a serious blues song, the girl did him wrong in that song, but he reached a point in the singing where there was a pause, and the face he had was so painful looking, I mean he looked like a judge just gave him life for something he didn't do. It was intense then he came in with the singing again and was boss. That was a good night. I think me and my bud went to CBGB's too that night. The music ended around 1am at the Lone Star but music could be found at CBGB's till 2:30 am. I think I ran 20 red lights in his honor. We wound up sleeping in my car on 88th street, I knew the area. I slept in the back seat with the car door open so I could stretch out. NYC is safer than a tourist might imagine. Anyways, it was bud Dano that woke me up, he was yelling at some homeless guy, not really yelling at him, arguing about which was the better band, the Who or somebody. Dano had a cup of coffee with my name on it. So we got fucked up some more wandering Central Park and shit and picked up a Voice and fuckit, let's see Leslie West tonight. I think I got a detail of the story wrong but it's a realistic look into my out of control period, Fuck college. USA!

"Played like a man possessed" yes! My experience the first time i saw him was how easy he made it look, and his fingers and hand barely moved as all these aggressive sounds came out, and i was a guitar player already!!! He was light years ahead of anything else. His style was so simple that he used every part of it and enhanced all various parts such as vibrato and short bursts of speed licks with funky jazzy chords as base for rhythms. That texas sound was coming up then and it was a great period for blues
