I saw him in concert shortly before we lost him. One of the greatest experiences in my life. It was self evident he is one of the if not the greatest guitarist of our time. A second gift he had was the time he set aside to interact with the crowd. Finally, his triumph over addiction is another of his great achievements and probably what he would consider his greatest! achievement. Pink, thanks for sharing 😉

Dwight Madden beautifully said. Thank you! I met him in 1987, and would visit with him after his shows in my part of the world. Almost didn’t make it backstage one night, but by the grace of God, I did. That was the last time I saw him. We spoke by phone 6 weeks before he died. He was a humble, gentle, loving soul, and so happy to finally be clean and sober. There will never be another like him.❤️ Donna

Your reactions are priceless, girl. Glad you liked it. Been a fan of his since he hit the big time in the 80's. Was a sad summer day when I heard that he'd died. We were at a swimming hole (with a tire swing) and car doors open when they announced it over the radio. R.I.P. Riviera Paradise is a great instrumental, and his version of The Sky is Crying is my favorite (love to sing it when performing out.) His "Live Alive" album is energy. Have fun!

Please, don't hate me but I think SRV plays Hendrix better than Hendrix, at times. Again, no hate or offense intended. Respect to Jimi!
@PhillipLandmeier5 жыл бұрын
No hate. Hendrix and SRV are actually quite different in their approach to playing. They're so different that I think comparisons of who is better than whom are nonsense. SRV was obviously a huge fan of Hendrix and it's great that he played the music for all of us. Not many can do it, at all.
@YdaAnn5 жыл бұрын
Stevie won Little Wing for sure
@Porsche996-t1y5 жыл бұрын
Different styles. SRV was so tight, incredibly accurate, fast, on point, but with all the feeling. Hendrix was a creative genius, came up with amazing tunes, but was sadly often wasted on whatever, and not so disciplined. The world needs both...
@PhillipLandmeier5 жыл бұрын
@@Porsche996-t1y Exactly. We do need both. Arguing over who's the greatest of all is nonsense. Al DiMeola is the greatest at what he does, Jimmy Page is the greatest at what he does. Gilmour is the greatest at what he does, and so on. Guitar playing is very personal. SRV obviously liked some of Hendrix's compositions and plays them the way he likes. SRV was an amazing technician of precise playing. So is Gilmour. Then go back and watch Hendrix's or Kath's total domination of the guitar. Hendrix sounded the way he did because that's what he wanted to sound like. The same with all the others. Comparing these guitarists makes about as much sense as comparing people's faces. Listen to each one and learn.
@bernie43665 жыл бұрын
@@PhillipLandmeier you could, arguably, say that SRV is the better player. I think you have to say that Jimi is the better composer. I feel the same way about Jimmy Page. You might be able to find someone who can play Zep as well or better than Page, but you can't find someone else who can write those songs.

If you have not listened to SRV Rivera Paradise please do. The story behind the song This is a soulful instrumental. After a full day of recording material for the album, Stevie asked his producer to leave the tape running and to turn down the lights. All alone, he recorded the guitar track on his Fender Strat. Double Trouble added the backing later, including an organ foundation from Reese Wynans. On the Austin City Limits performance, Stevie introduced this by saying it was "For all the hurting people in the world."

Stevie set the standard for covering Jimi. If you know a bunch of Hendrix tunes, you'll always hear pieces of other songs in there. Honestly though, for me, I'd suggest that you get a listen to "Life By the Drop." It's a simple 12-bar blues done solely on an acoustic 12-string guitar as the last song on his posthumous album, "The Sky is Crying," which is compromised of a bunch of songs that never made it into his first four studio albums. I'll pick that song any day, because it's sad, simple and sweet, and really the perfect last thing to hear from a guy who could tear it up, but was ultimately just a guy who loved and played the Blues. I sit back sometimes when I hear his music and can't fathom that he's been gone for 27 years.
