Same for me. You just assume their so much older than you but Tommy Shaw was 5 years older than me. Someone who was critiquing another song said about a picture that He just joined the bad at 8 years old . Worked out good for him. At his age he could be 20 years younger. Saw him do an interview, by some guys promoting tequila for a charity. Need I say more They told him to get his wife on. They laughed so hard at these guys. Two peas in a pod. She is the type of person I would like to meet. No pretence about her husband.

Styx was one of the biggest bands of the '70s and '80s. I think this is one of their greatest songs. I also love Suite Madame Blue and Fooling Yourself. Nice reaction, Sebs!

From their 7th album "The Grand Illusion" released on 7/7/77. "Come Sail Away" sent Styx into the stratosphere in popularity. Every song on "The Grand Illusion" is amazing and especially powerful when hearing it from beginning to end w/o interruption. Try "Renegade", "Blue Collar Man", "Miss America", "Man In The Wilderness", "Midnight Ride", "Castle Walls", "Queen of Spades", "Crystal Ball", "Suite Madame Blue". There are so many more great songs from this great band. Enjoy!

The song is not specifically about aliens. As Dennis Deyoung (lead singer) said, it's about the longing of being somewhere else in life whether it is sailing on a ship or in outer space. They used the idea of space because at that time, there were space movies that were coming out like Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. This is one of their biggest and most iconic songs. They have so many good ones. Renegade may be one you have heard before.

And Star Trek. Which I think is probably why they use the term "Star Ship" instead of "space ship".

When I went to listen to them at one of their concerts, the pianist I can’t think of his name right now, said he wrote this as a tribute to his dad, I believe.

Saw them the first time in 1984. One of the cleanest bands musically I’ve ever seen. Dennis DeYoung is an extremely talented singer. James Young and Tommy Shaw have very different singing styles that all mesh together so well.

I saw Dennis DeYoung in the early 90s when he was in a nationwide touring production tour of JC Superstar where he played Pontius Pilate. He was amazing. I went because a friend of mine was also in the cast playing Judas but I had no idea that Dennis was in the cast until I got to the theater.

Overall, Styx had eight songs that hit the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100, as well as 16 top 40 singles. Seven of their eight top 10 singles were written and sung by founding member and lead singer Dennis DeYoung, who has not been part of the band since 1999.

Your interpretation is as good as anyone else’s. That’s the great thing about music. The composer might be thinking about one thing but you may connect with the song on an entirely different level. But great music brings us all together regardless of how we get there.

You got the right version! I'm glad you didn't get the one shortened for the pop radio stations. They chopped out the whole synthesizer break. It's good live also, but like with Queen & Led Zeppelin you hear everything as intended on the studio version.

OMG Sebs!!! I just found your channel and am totally blown away!!! I have been trying to catch up on all your videos and after listening to 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago I decided to search on of my all time favorite bands, STYX!!! I have listed to both your vids and your reaction to them!!! Back in the day I was a sound engineer for a local band and they did a STYX song called "Suite Madam Blue"!!! It's a little long but there are 3 tempo changes in the song that are totally freaking awesome!!! Don't let the beginning fool you because you won't believe where they go with the song!!! I wish I could contribute to your channel but times are rough right now and being a disabled veteran doesn't help matters but if I can get things together I will gladly help support your channel!!! I hope you decide to listen to this song!!! You won't be disappointed!!!!!

GREAT Styx song. Styx has 3 lead singers. This is Dennis Deyoung singing lead on Come Sail Away, Dennis also sings lead on Suite Madame Blue ( my Styx favorite), Lady, The Best Of Times, The Grand Illusion, Rockin The Paradise, Show Me The Way, Castle Walls.... Tommy Shaw sings lead on Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Fooling Yourself, Crystal Ball, Too Much Time On My Hands, Man In the Wilderness, ..... James JY Young is the third lead singer he doesn't sing lead as much but he has some GREAT harder edge songs. Miss America, Half Penny- Two Penny, Midnight Ride, he starts off singing lead on Snowblind then Tommy jumps in. Just an unbelievable band who had top 10 hits in the 70's, 80's & 90's. For me I love their deeper cuts. Starting with Equinox and lasting thru Paradise Theater they had six straight albums without a bad song on any of em. They are fantastic. Styx is still going strong today but Dennis DeYoung is no longer in the band. He was replaced by Lawerence Gowan and their last two albums The Mission & Crash Of The Crown are epic. Tommy Shaw now fronts them, with Gowan and an occasional JY Young singing lead. With Dennis & Tommy they had Derek Jeter & Mariano Rivera in the same lineup from 76 - 83.

I always thought he was talking about aliens, but I heard a Dennis DeYoung interview somewhat recently where he states that it was human space-faring beings...not actually aliens. I'm sticking with the alien thing, though, cuz that's what I thought of when I first heard it as a child in 1977. (During the Star Wars/Close Encounters era).

Thank you for your reaction. I hope to possibly see more Styx reactions from you in the future. If you'd like more uplifting music from Styx I'd suggest: Fooling Yourself(The Angry Young Man) Why Me Crystal Ball Boat on the River Crash of the Crown Radio Silence I'm OK Man in the Wilderness(Expanded Version) STYX is a fun band that create a lot of emotionally uplifting music as well as music that deals with the struggles of life and the depression that comes with them. Styx first album album was released in 1972 and they're still releasing music today. This song was from their 7th album released 7/7/77. The Grand Illusion. Styx has had 23 Top 100s, 16 Top 40s and 8 Top 10s. Styx was also the first band to sell four consecutive multi-platinum albums. Plus all of them sold over 3 million which was unheard of at the time. Styx has had 6 main leads over the years with always 3 of them on any album. The lead in this song is Dennis DeYoung. Dennis plays keyboards, he often writes flowery piano ballads and proggy synth heavy tracks. But overall the band covers a very wide variety of different styles and genres of music with each track and each album having a different musical tone and feel.

I mean they leave it up for interpretation as the band quotes. But EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER listened to this song thought Aliens 👽 the 1st time. I still picture this and Rosetta Stoned as Alien abductions. Renegade, Blue Colar Man, Lady and To much time on my hands, are the biggest songs in thier discography
