Absolutely one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded; every song is worthwhile by themselves but taken together they transcend, This totally fucking rocks!

They made 3 masterpiece albums and then were gone. This album (Fun House) might be the best one. Their music influenced the punk scene and many great bands to this day. Some other ones you'd love are "Down on the Street", "Search and Destroy", "I Wanna Be Your Dog", "1969", "No Fun", "Loose", and so on.

Pure bluesy gut-level rock n' roll, no frills. And yes, Ron's main guitar at that time was a Strat, Dave the bassist played a Mosrite, which I don't believe are made anymore.

This album didn’t sell fuck all when it came out. But the people who did buy it definitely started a band. The albums influence is wide and important. A classic album that I never stopped listening to.

Dirt isn’t really a song. There’s no real hook or anything beyond a badass bass line and random badass lyrics and guitar licks. Unbelievably great song. The emotion is pure Detroit

If you love the bass line on this song, you should give the Fun House from this same album a listen! And keep in mind when you do that this band was from Detroit, and all that means musically. I feel like that's an important part of appreciating songs like that. :D

When you start connecting all the great Detroit rock of that era, a common theme is reckless abandon and zero consideration for norms. Whether MC5, Amboy Dukes, Bob Seger System or Alice Cooper, they all threw convention out the window.

The Stooges were a raw power rock and roll proto-punk quartet from Ann Arbor, Michigan with a sound that was years ahead of its time. They put out two albums that flopped -- surprising in retrospect given the hard groove of "Down on the Street" among their other songs -- and eventually broke up. Then Iggy Pop met David Bowie and they hit if off. Bowie convinced Iggy and the band to give it another shot and they did, releasing the album Raw Power in 1973, featuring the classic sonic fuzz bomb "Search and Destroy". Fire! Audiences began to catch up with their sound but it came too late to save the band. To my ears, "Dirt" sounds like a mash up of The Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter" and Albert King's "Born Under A Bad Sign". The chord progression comes from the Stones, the bass line from Albert King. The lyrics, the guitar work, the drum work, that's all Stooges.

To me this albums is the apex of rock and roll, any heavier and it would be metal but it stays with the blues with psychedelic twinge. Hard to believe it's 50 years old and its still so shocking and powerful

Jack White in an interview said this album is the greatest rock record of all time. Funny thing is The Stooges had just gotten signed to Elektra Records on a whim. Some A&R guy went to a show and offered the band a record contract. They went to Los Angeles to record a record but didn't have any material at all. This was just forced out of them like instantaneously in a recording studio
@alphajava761 Жыл бұрын
They were tight with MC5 and I believe they got signed on the same day and the same time as The Stooges. This album is their fingerprint. First album sounds like the Velvet Underground a lot with Cale producing it. Three great albums. The MC5, Stooges, Velvet Underground.. greatest Rock bands of all time imo. Certainly the most influential since Dylan.

@@alphajava761 I for whatever reason never had the first Stooges record but always knew No fun and 1969. I always assumed Lust For Life was on there until just the last couple months found it's an Iggy solo song. I think the band Destroy All Monsters is pretty cool who the Asheton brothers were a part of later on to their credit. I had the Live Kick Out The Jams MC5 record long before I ever listened to Stooges. Too bad their studio album is so tame and they were so short lived as far as a recording history. But that one live album is the best.

@@bobowrathsovine. I love MC5 studio albums. The first studio albums is very hard Blues. The second album is a sonic trip. All of the Velvet's, Stooges and MC5 albums are headphone albums. A lot of people believe Black Sabbath created Heavy Metal, I beg to differ it was the Underground and The Stooges. And I love Sabbath. The Funhouse album and Sabbath's debut album sound similar in many ways. Funhouse is nastier and dirtier than anybody doing music at that time. It's still one of the nastiest albums ever. There were three great pockets of music being created in the late 60s: Punk Rock, Country Rock and Funk and I love them all ... they defined everything that came after about 1970 post Dylan.
