Such an incredible album, remember these guys started in the 60's so years ahead of their time. It was Iggy Pop's 76th birthday this week.

The Fun House LP basically crystallizes and encapsulates what rock music is at a fundamental level in a way nothing else ever has. You should hear the whole album. If you want to see The Stooges live from this period look out for footage from the Cincinnati Pop Festival in 1970.

On my son's 18th birthday (1996) I brought him to see Iggy at the Warehouse in Toronto. Iggy was 49 then I believe and he didn't lack any energy! What a show! At one point Iggy jumped off the stage and ended up in my son's arms for a brief moment. I reached out and touched Iggy's skinny arm. The crowd was riveted to his performance.

I love Iggy Pop, I like The Stooges as garage rock, proto-punk, glam rock; on their official MySpace, the band's style is labeled as psychedelic rock/punk/metal. The band tried to reunite several times after the breakup, but guitarist Zeke Zettner died in 1973 from excessive drinking, bassist David Alexander died of pulmonary edema in 1975 at the age of 27. Shortly before his death, he was treated for pancreatitis caused by alcohol abuse. Iggy himself ended up in a drug treatment clinic for heroin use, I was surprised how he could survive and recover, good health to him! Unfortunately The Stooges don't actually exist anymore because guitarist Ron Ashton recently passed away in 2009 and drummer Scott Ashton in 2014. On June 22, 2016, guitarist James Williamson announced the band's breakup, stating: "The Stooges are no more. Basically everyone is dead except Iggy and me. So it would be ridiculous to try to tour as Iggy and The Stooges when there is only one Stooge in the band and then you have other side guys. It doesn't make any sense to me." Iggy has a good solo album "Brick by Brick" from 1990, and one of his most popular songs "Candy" is recommended for reaction.

Yes, it was Iggy, lead singer of 'The Stooges' (early years) later know as 'Iggy and The Stooges' (which Iggy did not like). I grew up in Detroit, The Stooges were like a 'house', band I saw them everywhere. The heaviest Band live,...EVER!!! He would do some 'Bikers Speed' (combo of Heroin, speed, and LSD) and walk out and perform. Sorta known in the beginning as 'The Psychedelic Stooges'.

Not true! Iggy was named Iggy Pop by the Asheton brothers after a local delinquent called Jim Popp. Iggy was reportedly furious that Elektra called him ‘Iggy Stooge’ on the sleevenotes for the debut album; he was never Iggy Stooge.

I had the good fortune to see The Stooges twice, with Ron and then James. Nobody has come even close to matching them onstage, and that comes from somebody who has seen Joy Division (supported by Killing Joke), the Clash, the Jam, Jeff Buckley, Bowie, The Stones, REM, Springsteen, the Cramps, the Birthday Party and many, many more. All have been wonderful, but The Stooges were in another league entirely. The most reviled group of their time is now amongst the most revered. Rightly so. From a homeless, penniless junkie to having his own radio show, Ig has had the last laugh.
