When this song came out, my dad was in Iraq. The first time that I heard it a man walked up to my door wearing a military uniform and I thought something bad happened to my dad but the man just came and said he wanted to pray with us, and then this song came on the radio. This is my first time in years I can listen to this song my dad is fine thank you for your reaction your videos warm my heart

Erich, please tell your Dad from an 'ol submariner vet THANK YOU AND WELCOME HOME!! I'm so glad he came back safe!! Tell him because of what he and the ones he served with did, my grandchildren slept peacefully, and FREE!! That is a debt I cannot re pay. And I take it very seriously. I am humbled by our military, forget the weaponry, the warriors are what keep us free. ❤

I can't believe he just showed up in uniform!! Yeah, it's nice that he wanted to pray with you, but to just show up with no prior warning is inconsiderate! Especially since your dad was deployed!! Of course, your first thought is going to be that he's there to deliver bad news. When I was over there, a fellow "soldier" (we were AF working for the Army) was injured when a mortar round exploded near our living area. It was just a minor injury (took some shrapnel in his leg). He healed and went back to work. But the base chaplain went to his mother's house in his class As and she freaked out, expecting the worst. Inconsiderate!! I'm glad your dad is back home safe. Not necessarily healthy cause what is experienced can weigh heavily on your soul.

I am 71 years old and a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam era. This song sums it up, there is nothing more prideful than knowing you have a duty, if need be, to protect everyone in the nation, not just your own family, but families across the US, and that protection could very well come at the expense of your own life. Salute every person you see who is in uniform serving our nation.

Ur real emotion to this song is exactly how it hit me. It’s ridiculous how we have people catching balls for a living making 30 million dollars a year but outside these stadiums where these guys are making millions for nothing there are homeless vets who fought and served and let us sleep peacefully knowing the brave men and women are fighting for us. The military, our military is the best and only the bravest serve. Thanks to all of our military and first responders you guys and girls are the reason we have what we have. Back the blue. My grandfather fought in World War II. He never spoke about what eh went through, but I do know he saved the lives of several men who later tracked him down so they could thank him for what he did over there for them. As for America being the greatest country on earth...I respectfully disagree. It isn't the greatest, but it absolutely has the potential to be. More fighting FOR each other and less fighting AGAINST each other would go a long way to realizing that potential.

As a Canadian Soldier, I loved the patriotism of Toby Keith, I never really listened to a lot of his music until 2008 when I had the pleasure of hearing him sing in Kandahar, Afghanistan. and it was a hell of a show. Johnny taliban tried to shut down the concert by firing rockets at the camp, and after a brief intermission Toby started playing again. I truly will never forget that concert and how much fun and pride he brought to all of us deployed. RIP Toby Keith.

Thank you so much for your support. I served six years and deployed twice, once to Afghanistan and once to Iraq. I got out at the end of my contract because I wanted to start a family with my wife and actually be there for them. Which I have. One thing people forget these days is that the military is not beholden to the government. The government has fooled themselves into thinking we are at their beck and call. But we aren't. We are beholden to the constitution. And the day the government finally pushes their power too far, it is going to be hell for them. P.S. They are really pushing the limits right now.

How would you consider what's already been done as *not* pushing too far? What *would* constitute the government pushing too far, especially considering what's already been done??
@galerios1
@galerios1 2 ай бұрын
How do I answer this... They have already pushed way past the limit but we are living in a weak minded world... It is high time for a revolution... but the military consists of 20% of the population in America and they are the biggest allies of the people. Part of the reason veterans are so likely to become homeless is because the government purposely discards them. Did you know that every veteran is put on a government watch list as a possible home grown terrorist? Every veteran is being monitored by the CIA, NSA, FBI. Because we saw how shit works inside that bubble. The federal government is afraid of us because of the oath we took. To defend the constitution from all threats foreign or domestic.Our government is an obvious domestic threat at this point but nobody wants to stand up because they are scared.

Most Americans would believe that the Canadians or the Brits have been out closest allies based on recent history, but most do fail to realize that the Aussies are always right there with those guys and have had America’s back more often than any other single country. Quite literally our closest ally. Salute, brother, I hope to visit one day!

THIS American knows the UK, Canada & ANZACS are our friends & allies. Australia & NZ are critical friends & allies to the US (they're also bad a**). US Army 2nd Corp attacked the St. Quinten Canal alongside Australians in 1918 on the Western Front of WW1. Americans & ANZACS fought alongside each other at Monte Casino during the Italian Campaign of WW2. Americans served w/Australians in Iraq & Afghanistan. There are other examples. There's a lot of BS politics going on now. As an American Veteran, I know better.

My best friend was in the Air Force reserve for 33 years with 4 tours overseas in combat zones. (Desert Shield/Storm, Turkey/Iraq border base, Afghanistan, Kutar) Every deployment he asked me to watch over his wife and son while he was gone. I was proud to watch over and out for them in his absence. I told him not to worry about them because I had it covered so he could keep his mind on what was at hand and come home. And he did.

This song hits home every time I hear it. I guess it is because Toby wrote most of the soundtrack for the GWOT and it brings a lot of memories back from both wars.

Wow... Just a great song. You reaction honestly put me in tears. I served for 24 years, and had gotten so used to the younger generation being numb to the military. After 4 tours in Iraq, losing 60% of my hearing and my family I was seriously touched by your genuine reaction. Thank you for giving me hope for the younger generation again. Have a great day. By the way... Trailorhood is another great song. :)

I was in the Oklahoma Army National Guard and deployed in 2004 to Afghanistan. Toby didn’t just sing songs about the military. He took his ass overseas, to small combat outposts, across dangerous roads, to see “his boys.” He believed in walking the walk. I didn’t meet him, on that tour, because I covered the aid station for the rest of the crew who did meet him. Several of those guys spent weeks learning to play his songs on guitar just so they could have a jam session with Toby, which they got. It kept their minds on something positive for, at least, a month of the summer fighting season. In 2013, despite his diagnosis, he showed up to help victims of the Moore, OK Tornado. I was the NCOIC of a square mile of the tornados path. He found us, and asked us where he was most needed. It was absolutely inspiring that he knew his clout could help the worst of the victims recover faster, and he used it. His house was damaged by that storm and his attention was on the community. Whatever anyone could say about him, I have the fondest of memories and wish him peace.

I just came across this video and want to say thank you. I spent 20 years in the Air Force. Compared to most people I had a very easy career. I never had to go anywhere where there was danger. I get so tired of hearing young people putting down the military and the fact that we go to other countries to protect our freedoms here. It is refreshing to hear a young lady like you who understands how lucky we have it here in the states. Most don't realize that those wars in other countries would eventually come to this country if not for the brave men and women who go there to protect us. Thank you again for being one of the younger ones who understand.

I was a soldier, I came home from Vietnam in 1969, and people I thought were my friends turned their backs on me, so I am glad that these new "patriotic" songs remind people of what the men and women of the armed forces are sacrificing when they go into a combat zone. If you really want to show your support, a friend of Toby Keith, Trace Adkins, is very busy soliciting funds for the wounded warrior program. If you support the troops pitch in for the ones who have paid the heaviest price in service and are still alive.

Vietnam had the misfortune of being the first televised war and so wasn't glamourized like the wars that came before. For many at home it was there first time getting a hint at what war was actually like.

Cold war veteran here, it warms my heart to hear Toby Keith's patriotic songs and see reactions like yours to the impact he had on our nation. You've exactly caught on to how he brings the substance of his message to a personal level. How can one not not revear our military and what a gift they are to our lives in the freedoms granted that come only throught their sacrifices. With respect to the rapper Tom McDonald, not being a rap music fan, I've listened to a couple of his and find them interesting and thought provoking.

I'm a veteran, and one of the hardest things I've had to come to terms with, Is when people come up to me, and thank me for my service. It took me a long time to realize, just what they were thanking me for. I just looked at that time in my life, as a success I survived, with my sanity in tact. The fact that he wrote this song as a tribute to us Vet's, and to our families is a gift. Let's not forget, the latter part of his career, he made it a point, to spend time with, and perform for our troops overseas, should tell us everything we need to know about the man. RIP MR. Toby Kieth
