Maynard James Keenan writes all the lyrics and singing parts, the other three Danny Carey (Drummer), Justin Chancellor (Bassist), Adam Jones (Electric Guitar and Synth) write all the musical parts and then jam together until something clicks. They write and record and produce the music down to nearly finishing the mix before Maynard the singer writes the lyrics. The music is first and then he writes his lyrics around the first experience he has listening through the song. He writes how he will sing it and then fills in the lyrics that work. He is a genius, I mean they are all masters at their best. They have won 3 Grammys and started in 1991 with their first full released album Undertow in 1993. Since then they have produced 3 other albums AEnima (1996), Lateralus (2001), 10,000 Days (2006) and last but not least but with a long hiatus Fear Inoculum (2019). Tool has been big fans of their music being physical on CDs or Vinyl and never allowed their music to be streamed online. A week before the release of FI they decided to upload all their albums to streaming services including uploading all their songs for free on KZbin. So the studio version you are hearing is from their 2006 album “10,000 Days” but the official upload to KZbin was 3 years ago. Welcome to the Tool Army and Spiral Out, check out the song, Lateralus!
@Gideonite Жыл бұрын
Some side facts about each of the members Maynard James Keenan owns and runs both a multi-acre wine vineyard and winery that produces his own brand out in Arizona. You can buy his wine online and select stores. 🤣 Adam Jones was a special effect artist who worked with Spielberg on Jurassic Park and Tim Burton on The nightmare before Christmas before start Tool with Maynard in 1993. He produced and made all the stop motion for their few music videos. Justin Chancellor is from London, England and plays base with a Guitar Pick and not his fingers (shame). He was also a part of a band called Peach prior to Tool, check them out also. 🤘Last but not least is Danny Carey who is 6’5” and was a jazz drummer prior to Tool. He has drummed more then 50 years and trained with a famous Indian tabla player to learn his special style of playing. He was trained to not count and plays completely by memory and feel. He is called the Octopus because he is able to play 4 different drum beat pattern simultaneously without missing a beat. 😮
@gurglinghermits3043 Жыл бұрын
This has little tidbit about how the band writes has been largely exaggerated. It’s pretty true that’s what they do nowadays but it’s more for Maynard’s convenience, since he has so much work with other bands and businesses, and doesn’t really have time to think of vocal lines with the group and constantly alter them as the song develops. In the early days he would spend more of his time writing with the group, and Tool was more of a unit in that regard
@Gideonite Жыл бұрын
Maynard did an interview with Revolver recently where he stated that’s how it has always been. All of them get along but Maynard did admit that their is a small amount of contention because of his lack of involvement in the instrumental sound. He made a commit that it annoys them when they finish their side and hand it to him to make the lyrics he can do it so quickly. He jokes with them, that he has had a backlog of lyrics he wrote 20 years ago. And yes I am sure this formula works better for Maynard now that he is busy with his other two projects and Vineyard/winery.

Here we go again!! Welcome to one of the greatest bands of all time. Tool, made up of Vocalist Maynard James Keenan, Guitarist Adam Jones, Bassist Justin Chancellor, and the Octopus on Drums Mr. Danny Carry. In general Tool can be divided between their early years which had a more aggressive, angry tone and their later years which is more spiritual and reflective. Each member are elite musicians, Tool only sounds like Tool and are a genre all their own. Maynard writes all the lyrics, and his performances are on par with some of the greatest vocalists in history. He is also a vocalist for A Perfect Circle and Puscifer both of which I highly recommended to dive into. Tool fans will tell you to stay away from reacting to any of their official videos as they distract quite a bit from the songs and lyrics, I typically recommend to just listen to their music first and then on a second go around pull up the lyrics, we promise, it'll add dimension and depth to the entire experience. Tool fans are devoted and love to watch reactions of people’s first time listening, to say they are unique doesn’t do them justice. Take your time with reactions, we don’t mind if you pause and analyze, a lot of their music is open to interpretation which is fun for all of us. Spiral out and have fun on your journey...oh and YES headphones are a must! The Staples The Pot 46 and 2 Lateralus The Grudge Sober Schism Pneuma 7empest Right in Two Vicarious The Patient Deeper Cuts Jambi Hooker with a Penis Pushit Pushit (Salival Version) Eulogy Disposition / Reflection / Triad (All in a row) Invincible Culling Voices Decending Swamp Song 4 Degrees Parabol/Parabola Ticks & Leaches No Quarter Maynard’s Dick Songs related to Maynard's mother. Judith Marie Keenan was a devote Baptist who suffered a paralyzing cerebral hemorrhage when Maynard was just 11-years-old. Judith would remain paralyzed for 27 years (approx. 10,000 days) until her death in 2003. Jimmy Judith (A Perfect Circle) Wings for Marie (Part 1) 10,000 Days (Wings Part 2)

Nice reaction. It's always a pleasure to watch folks experience Tool for the first time. Get ready for a mid bending experience. For a new listener I would suggest maybe something off their earlier Undertow album like "Sober," "Bottom" or "Crawl Away" or maybe another off the 10,000 day's album like "Vicarious" or "Right in Two." I will tell you up front that you're usually better off just kicking back and enjoying the music for the first few listens of pretty much any Tool song and then dive into the lyrics once you have a feel for the song. Maynard's lyrics are usually pretty deep and there are typically multiple theories as to their meaning floating around out there. I look forward to seeing more of your Tool reactions! Spiral out, my friend...

The whole song is about hypocrisy and every lyric is a wonderful weave of double entendre colloquialisms. Example - "Kangaroo done hung the jury with innocent" Kangaroo court is a court where the trial is a formality to a predetermined verdict. A hung jury is when there's not a consensus amongst the jurors so no verdict can be rendered.

Great reaction, and a great way to start my day! Believe it or not, this is considered one of their more accessible and (dare I say) straight-forward songs. Starting from the beginning is the best way to try and understand TOOL, and also just to follow their growth as musicians and as a band. If you *really* hate thinking though, another accessible track from their early days is Sober (which also has some pretty awesome live performances out there). Other than that, some very popular reaction songs include Lateralus, Forty-Six & 2, Pushit (Salival live version), and Pneuma (live Vic Firth drum cam)
@guylewis477 Жыл бұрын

In my opinion, their song "Pushit," best represents the breadth of what TOOL is about and what they do. The song has 3 separate crescendos and it's just so freakin good. I recommend listening to the original "Aenima" album version 1st and then the version from the "Salival" album. The Salival version is fuk'n insanely good. The song's a discussion / argument between a man and his dick
