I'm 42, I saw my dad cry two times in my life. I was 14 driving up front with my dad in the station wagon. This song came on, he started crying, and when he saw me notice him, he said this was the song that was played at his best friend's funeral when he was 17. I'm the oldest, and he said, "please play this at my funeral." Thankfully he is still alive, but I know what song I'm supposed to play. Everytime I hear this...I get weird and want to be left alone. I love you dad.

When I was in high school we had a Team Rolling Stones vs Team The Who. A few years later we were debating Allman Bros vs Lyrd Skynrd. Both were essentially ridiculous debates, because the reality is both teams were winners - we didn't have to choose!! And now 50 years later we're still basking in their greatness. Man we had the best music!

Gimmie Three Steps, Sweet Home Alabama, Give Me Back My Bullets, Saturday Night Special, Call Me The Breeze (my favorite), What's Your Name, You Got That Right, Working For MCA, Ballad Of Curtis Lowe (my second favorite), That Smell, Whiskey Rock-A-Roller, Don't Ask Me No Questions, I Know A Little, Needle And The Spoon, Swamp Music etc., etc......You've got a few more to listen to before proclaiming one to be the best. "Tuesday's Gone" excellent, the best - maybe not.

My other cousin, his brother, had just come from seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd open for The Who's Quadrophenia tour in Atlanta. The 1st record played on the system was Pronounced, the 1st Skynyrd album. After being blown away by Free Bird, we played Quadrophenia. Memories

I appreciate your takes on the music and your healthy drinks, but as a 70yo boomer I have to tell you... We were all stoned, drunk & or high while we listened to all of this music. Live was the only way to hear this. At the time you could smoke up on the floor, do 'shrooms, mesc, have your girl carry wine inside her bag, whatever. It was a scene. No one bothered you. It was a one time ever chance to hear the greatest musicians of anyone's lifetimes. None of us appreciated what we experienced. We all thought that this was what musical entertainment would always be. Fantastic music... on the floor of a coliseum with a blanket... rockin' your average (for the time) favorite jams. IMHO the last great concert was the 1991 Monsters of Rock concert in Russia - epic!!!

This is song writing at its finest. Funny how all the best songs were written in the 1960s and '70s. And before anyone says there are good songs written today, that's true. But you have to dig for them and it seems garbage songs are embraced by today's audiences as if there is no difference between bad writing and good writing -- and singing and performing. In the 1970s we were hit with timeless masterpieces almost every day of the week. I can make a list if you want.

There are quite a few songs that use the name or word Tuesday, such as Tuesday's Gone, Ruby Tuesday by the Rolling Stones, the Beatles lyrics to She Came in Through the Bathroom Window, "Sunday's on the phone to Monday, Tuesday's on the phone to me." There is a band called The Real Tuesday Weld. There is some speculation that Tuesday weld is the inspiration behind most of this, and in the case of the Beatles lyrics it has been verified by at least one account. She was sort of a free-spirited rebellious nymph of an actress--a very good actress--and developed a cult following. Playwright and actor Sam Shepherd called her the Marlon Brando of actresses. In fact, she is my favorite actress, mostly her work in the 1960s up through 1970. I have a close-up shot of her from The Cincinnati Kid (1965) when she was about 22, as my iPhone wallpaper.

In the late 1970s when I was about 30, I lived for a couple years in a college town, in a downstairs efficiency in a four apartment building that had poor sound insulation between the floors. There were four college guys in the efficiency above me, and I could hear them clomping around every time they came down some stairs, and one time they were playing loudly what turned out to be Lynyrd Skynyrd when I was trying to relax. I had never heard of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and it is not my type of music anyway. I went upstairs to ask them if they could turn it down a little, and I mistakenly said that the bad loud music was coming through the floor strongly from above. Now, I couldn't get any real quality sound from that so to me it was bad music, aside from the fact that that I don't like that type of music. However, one of the four guys got very agitated saying it was Lynyrd Skynyrd and it was not bad music, and clenching his fists at his sides. One of his flatmates had to put his hand on his shoulder to calm him down. I said, I didn't mean to insult their music, it just sounds that way coming through the floor, or, something. So I escaped without getting beaten up.

You should here it from the live album “One More From the Road “ Skynyrd was the consummate live band imho, I was blessed enough to see them three months before the plane crash and I emphasize on Blessed!

I know many of us say that "this band or that band, has a deep rabbit hole" but.... Skynyrd doesn't have a single bad song. Some might be better or more familiar but they are all great! So many "deep cuts" could/should have been singles and hits! "Four Walls Of Raiford" "Was I Right Or Wrong" "Cry For The Bad Man" "Things Going On" "Searching" "Double Trouble" Like i said, EVERY song! "Coming Home" "Preacher's Daughter"

Dude, it was the 60s and 70s, Tuesday was her name. I dated a girl named Jupiter. I called her jupe for short. We saw the Skynard live at least 10 times in the 70s.

Thank all that it is good that we have a record store nearby. There is something soothing about being surrounded by all that music. I am working on building up my album collection to pass to my son and grandchildren.

When you said it your favorite and said this is the one it made me think of their song ' I ain't the one' 😆

That recording sound you’re referring to is what’s called the muscle Shoals sound. That’s where Southern rock ‘n’ roll was invented when Dwayne Allman and Wilson Pickett recorded a cover of the Beatles hey Jude. That is what is widely accepted as the very southern rock ‘n’ roll song.
