About 8 years ago I was in a bar in Nashville. 1300 miles from home working. I flew my folks out, and my aunt and uncle, because none of them have been before. We are having a great time, and my uncle who I was very close to and the person who taught me the skills that I have a career in. This song is playing, (live band doing cover) and we are all out of our seats watching the band play. Side note.. Bar bands in Nashville could be better than any famous band that is mainstream and these guys were fantastic. I am finding myself in a surreal moment as I look at my family together and smiling fixated on this band. My uncle puts his arm on my shoulder and reveals his watch to me. I hadn't really paid attention to it being Tuesday, we just went out when they got into town. 12:00 Tuesday was in fact gone. The surreal feeling that I had multiplied into some synchronizing feeling of; YES. All is right in the world and how it should be in that moment of time. It was unbelievably powerful, almost to a disbelief. I'm sure that being Tuesday, this song was in their setlist for that time. My uncle passed away 2 years ago. The moment that he revealed his little secret, about realizing that we were now living in Wednesday to me, on his watch at the time that I already felt like some heaven had spilled down to the spot on earth where I stood, I still feel, some of that feeling, whenever I hear this song, and have a memory of how intense it was with a perfect and pleasant view of, this is it, and this is here all the time. Nothing else existed in my thoughts at that moment, other than a deep gratitude for those people I love right there with me, for another memory with them. We are just looking in other directions, or in a different light to stay there all the time. With a joy I thought that this could have been the last experience of combined happiness that I might have with any of them. That is when that feeling overtook me. {It was the last one with all of them together} How blessed I am to have something like that, be my last memory of going and doing something with him. We are just looking in other directions, or in a different light to stay in spilled heaven all the time. I just fell into whatever that unreal feeling of every single thing is perfect is, so perfect that nothing you could do could make it any better. It's a blissful daydream for a time, but you could not function while having that feeling for very long. Very spiritual, I guess would be the closest word to describe it. I fumbled over the words, trying to describe something that I do not have the correct words to do so.

Im a lifelong Skynyrd fan. The singer (and main songwriter) is Ronnie Van Zant. He wrote this song about his divorce as a young man. It's his sad feelings as he walked out of the door. Just a fantastic song and one of about 20 that are classics to this day. Just timeless. Even though they were huge in their day, Skynyrd is still a criminally underrated band. Along with the Allman Brothers and Creedence, they are one of greatest American bands in history. Talent in every direction.

Tuesday is a woman. There is a line in the song "Tuesday you see, well she had to be free." You had your eyes closed and were air drumming when that line dropped. There is a famous, albeit older, actress named Tuesday Weld but she is not who the song is about. Another incredible fact about the mind and heart of Ronnie Van Zant is that he never wrote any of the lyrics of these songs on paper. He listened to the band working out a song and the words came off of his tongue as we later heard them on record. His loss to the world of rock music is immeasurable. The fact that this band could still fill arenas, waiting to hear his songs for forty years after his death, is an indication of how much his words always strike a chord with listeners. A very special person with the soul of a poet.

Like "Ruby Tuesday" by The Rolling Stones, Tuesday in this song is the name of a girl. It's about going away and leaving her behind. Written by lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist Allen Collins, it's another "I must be going now" song on Lynyrd Skynyrd's first album, similar in theme to "Free Bird." There was a train track near the place where the band rehearsed. The sound of the trains inspired lead singer Ronnie Van Zant to write the first line, "Train roll on, on down the line." The group was discovered by Al Kooper, a producer and session musician who had previously worked with Bob Dylan, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and The Zombies. Kooper played some instruments and sang backup on the album, but his contributions were credited to "Roosevelt Gook." On this track, he played a synthesizer-like instrument called a Mellotron.

I also send many virtual hugs. I lost my baby brother in 2006. When Mama brought him home from the hospital and put him in his crib, I put my hands on the side and lifted myself on my tip toes to see him. I turned to my Mama and told her "He's my baby too". I meant that whole heartedly and took care of him, feeding him, changing diapers, yes even the worst smelling ones, and played with him. Taught him things and protected him from the bullies growing up, even when he was wrong. I would literally go toe to toe with the older boys when they picked on him. One even took a swing at me, but only once. He didn't connect, but I did, with a kidney shot that brought him down. I told him to leave my brother alone and we wouldn't have any problems. Being his older sister was a pleasure and we had a special bond. So many great memories with him. When we lost him, it actually hurt to breathe. It will be 15 years in August and it still hurts to think of him not being here anymore. Sorry if I went off on a tangent, just got caught up in memories. I hope your heart heals. Love from me in South Texas to you and yours.

Having grown up in the deep south in the seventies and eighties. I can say that the influence of soul, jazz, and blue's music are very strong on many southern rock as well as country artists that grew up in that Era. In the south of my childhood. Which in many areas was heavily depressed financially after poor trade decisions on the part of the government caused the oilfield work to bust and agriculture to be forced to nearly bankrupting most farmers. There were black musicians that toured the south and became highly popular. These musicians had an advantage over their white counterparts. Because they could go into any town and do three shows in that town. One in a predominantly black bar. One in a predominantly white bar. Then cap off with either a theater or arena show. So many of the kids who would grow up to become Southern Rock bands such as Lynard Skynard and country artists such as Conway Twitty, Chris Stapelton, Ronnie Milsap grew up listening to Ottis Redding, Percy Sledge, Clarence Carter, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Fats Domino, Aretha Franklin, Patty Labelle, Donna Summer, Ike & Tina Turner. Then add to that influence of the Swamp Pop bands and Zydeco such as Cookie and the Cupcakes and Boozoo Chavus coming out of South Louisiana and South Mississippi. Southern Rock and Country artists actually have a well rounded and diversified pool of musical influence to draw from.

I love Lynyrd Skynyrd because they are a band that you can listen to that just hits you deep inside. They do have a soulful rock sound. “The lyrics are band frontman Ronnie Van Zant's realization that his normal life is finished forever with the band's new MCA/Sounds of the South record deal. "Tuesday," representing life as it was, is gone with the wind. “

Southern Rock definitely. Ronnie Van Zant was the singer/ songwriter for this amazing iconic band. He passed alone with two other band members in Oct 1977. You might consider checking out the live version of Free Bird Oakland, Ca. July 1977. One of the most amazing live performances of all time. Just three months before the tragedy. Peace out ✌️

Some people associate this song with “ Happy Gilmore,” but I will forever think about the movie “Dazed and Confused” with this song. There are a ton of songs off that soundtrack you would really enjoy: Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo - Rick Derringer Slow Ride - Foghat Highway Star - Deep Purple Stranglehold - Ted Nugent Low Rider - War Enjoy your reactions. Keep doing your thing!

That’s the definition of southern rock “soulful “ Because most southern rock bands grew up in church and that’s why it has gospel and blues sounds in this type of music

Tuesday’s Gone” was written by Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins from the band, with vocals by Van Zant. It details how the band’s life is going to change in various ways adter being singed to MCA Records. Tuesday in this song is the name of a girl. It's about going away and leaving her behind.

There are several stories about what this song is about. One is that lead singer Ronnie Van Zant's first marriage ended and the divorce was finalized on a Tuesday. Another story is that the band signed their record deal and Tuesday represents their life will never be the same. As a huge skynyrd fan I've never heard either of these stories come from any band members mouth

"Soul Rock" is a good description. A lot of the southern rock artists had the same background as a lot of the Motown artists. Came up playing in church and at home/ in the neighborhood. That's the difference. There's emotion, soul, and a relatability in all of it. Elvis is another example. He had very professional productions and at the same time a little bit funky and soulful. Kentucky Rain comes to mind.

As for the piano in the song, several Southern Rock groups used them. After Dwayne Allman died and Greg took over the Allman brothers used even more piano because that was Greg's instrument. Southern Rock was not like modern rock there was a lot more soul in it. They were country boys. Listen to Train Train by Blackfoot.

You need to listen to the version that's on One more from the road album. It's a live album. Also there's concert footage of the band playing this in early 76 at winterland concert. Both live versions are fantastic. Also something else to note is that Skynyrd is a piano band
