One of the greatest bands ever in my opinion. Trend setters, diverse, amazing live, they really do it all…

If you want to see the audience sing, check out "Endles Rain" from the same concert. Another song that has influenced Babymetal, "No rain no rainbow" X-japan is probably the band that has had the biggest influence on Japanese metal

Yes, Endless Rain is also a great song. The crowd sang beautifully. Really a great band...

But to understand everything, you need to know the history of the band, watch the movie "We are X", find out how important was the guitarist with pink hair called Hide (he is dead, but even after his death he toured with the band), how great a person in the musical world is the drummer / pianist Yoshiki. And what that last live performance really was ... You'll fall into this like in Babymetal's fox hole ...

Yes this is the band BABYMETAL pay homage to more than any other ... Yoshiki's neck brace (he is the drummer, pianist and main composer and is a legend in Japan), the "WE ARE BABYMETAL" call at the end of concerts ("X japan would shout "WE ARE X"), the gong at the end of some 'Headbanger' performances and at the end of the 10 Budokan shows - all of them are direct tributes. There is at least one photo of BABYMETAL with Yoshiki and a short video clip of them wishing him a happy birthday. BABYMETAL's song 'Akatsuki' was probably inspired by and pays homage to this one, 'No Rain, No Rainbow' to X Japan's 'Endless Rain'. There was a Japanese TV special on New Years Eve a couple of years ago where BABYMETAL and a very select few Japanese artists did a special performance of 'Endless Rain' with Yoshiki, Brian May and Roger Taylor from Queen and opera singer Sarah Brightman. You can find that video on the official Queen channel - it will be blocked if you try to react to it. X Japan's Last Live concert was on 31st December 1997 (just 11 days after Su-metal was born). X Japan were splitting up as the vocalist had been recruited into a cult by his wife. The guitarist with the pink hair was called Hide (pronounced He-deh) - he died within a couple of months of this last show. X Japan have reunited since this happened - the singer eventually got out of the cult, but he had lost absolutely everything. There is a documentary "We are X" that is fascinating and well worth seeing.

Well hide was drunk when he died and used a towel around his neck to stretch and passed out which many thought it was a suicide while other don't believe it was a suicide

X Japan has a really intense lore behind it’s member and other bands which tells a great story of the Japanese rock and metal scene. It’s a big rabbit hole to fall into but it’s one filled with great music 😅

Babymetal Akatsuki was tribute to that song :) Akatsuki and Kurenai means the same. Toshi in the beginning shouts - Kurenaaaiii and Sue Metal shousts - Akatsuki daaaa

Finding this after falling in love with Akatsuki was an amazing experience, also noticed that the whole "trilogy of death", each song has a reference/connection to X-Japan, those 3 in particular caught my notice

It is very fortunate for baby bands get to stand on the shoulders of this giant, to be somehow seen as great as, the progenitors of Visual Kei and a pillar of Japanese Rock.

X japan have a great mix, from speed/power metal, to Hard Rock/Hair Metal, to power ballads and such... Some only like the heavier, earlier stuff, while the ballads tend to be the most commercially popular... Some don't like the newer stuff from after they reformed... Personally I love it all... If you like some good crowds, you'll often be in for a treat with X Japan. This concert is probably at the pinnacle of it all, although some earlier stuff has some crazy raw energy lol. God, if you look at some of the earlier stuff, you can really see why Yoshiki is wearing a neckbrace here >_

NEMOPHILA do an excellent cover of this too. Murata Tamu absolutely kills it on the drums. You should also check out "hide" (heeday) the pink haired guitarist. He died not long after this in 1998. 65,000 people turned up to his funeral. Hide had his own band called "hide with Spread Beaver" (also with his X-Japan fellow guitarist Pata) and they had a lot of good rock songs. Try DICE live or PINK SPIDER music video. hide is still revered today as being decades ahead of his time as his music still sounds fresh today.

This band is called Japan's Queen rather then AC/DC :)

Yeah... It might be a bit of a mix... I mean, they don 't quite have the variety of Queen, partly because more members of Queen wrote the songs... Plus while Queen did have some heavy stuff, they were never quite as heavy... Queen was arguably more experimental too... They do still have a bunch in common though... Some of the more classical elements for example... Yoshiki clearly made friends with Queen though, hence the collaboration with Roger Taylor on his track called Foreign Sand (or whatever it was called)... There's a neat live version where Toshi sings it with Mr. Taylor... Although probably not Taylor's best performance... And then more recently there was that Endless rain collaboration too... I don't know... I did once liken them to Queen as well though, so I can certainly see that... I'm not sure how accurate that is though... Oh well lol.

Wishing for more X Japan reactions Finding X Japan was the greatest and worst moment of my life, its a rollercoaster, their older looks were as crazy as the music itself. Try Sadistic Desire from 1993 Returns Live, not the craziest ones (end of 80's) but still more Visual than they do here.
