I’ve had this procedure done multiple times over my 19 years of life, not for height, but I was born with one leg significantly shorter than the other. You gain 3 inches over 20 weeks of lengthening, and in the recent years have noticed the increasing amount of this surgery for cosmetic purposes. The surgery is minimally invasive compared to what it used to be when I had my first lengthening 15 years ago, but it is still having a broken femur for 20 weeks😭

i know someone who got height surgery and had 3 inches added to their legs. its a MAJOR surgery. They basically break your legs, then separate them by 3 inches, and install a lattice that bridges the gap. your bones slowly heal over the lattice until both sections are joined again. from what i remember, 3 inches is the absolute max they can safely do and still have the bones reconnect. Also, after the surgery you are at high risk for breaking your femurs forever. the spot where they grow back is always weaker. The guy i knew that got it was 4"10 i think before and actually gained a bit less than 3 inches in the end. He also wore lifts in his shoes for another inch or so. It was all personal for him though. He was just at the threshold for being considered a littler person (or so he said) but genetically he didn't have dwarfism or any of the other defects that can stunt growth. The whole thing was wild, but to each their own

I did have my left arm lengthened from a birth injury. It was definitely invasive. Ha. Had two pins down to the bone on each side of the break (they went in an old scar and broke the bone with a chisel), which held the gap apart. The bone grew in between to lengthen my arm about an inch or so over several weeks. Had to tighten the external piece each day with an alan wrench. Fun stuff.

The bone lengthening one is legit. They basically cut through your bone and put them a few centimeters apart and then allow them to heal closing the distance then before completely healing they move it apart again. It's usually done for people who have that thing where one leg shorter than the other.
