@@emd4390 a lot of men are the ones filling the essential worker jobs like roadside construction, sanitation, city maintenance, emergency response, etc... yes there are some women in those jobs, and there are essential worker jobs that are female oriented, but I think that loss actually says more about the job choices men and women tend to make. Men are more willing to work in dangerous jobs than women. They’re also more likely to get hurt, or to die on the job than women are. Women are more likely to seek male dominated jobs that are white collar, not blue collar. But blue collar jobs are some of the most essential jobs in the country. I think that may have something to do with the loss of jobs for females. Not saying it’s a good thing, obviously it isn’t. Just my experience as someone who lost her job as a yoga instructor this year while my husband kept his job as a mechanic because people still need their cars fixed, even if they have to skip the yoga class.

Ok, as someone in academia I had to look up the expert from the weird covid gender roles segment and her research is focused on how ovulatory cycles play a role in sexuality and behavior. The random comment about sexy photos honestly seems so strange and out of context because she is not an expert on that... her coworker is. It completely derailed what could have been a great conversation on domestic violence, women being forced back into homes as a caretaker and homemaker and came off super strange.

So the lady talking about the gender roles is an evolutionary psychologist. This branch if psychology is kinda taboo/controversial and focuses on the more primal aspect of the human mind and how people have certain traits to survive. One good example is that they say men tend to value beauty in a potential mate because the male's evolutionary goal is to spread the genetics as much as possible and have the best surviving offspring. Women tend to value safety and stability (money and responsibility) more than men because their evolutionary goal is to nurture and make sure as many offspring survive. On the nature vs nurture debate, they're gonna be on the side of nature. I do not 100% agree with this specific type of psychology, but I do find it interesting to see how they explain their sides of the argument.

Im a psych student and aspiring researcher and a totally agree, the way most science reporting is done is super irresponsible and would be completely unacceptable in any even vaguely academic context. Correlation is not causation, and to suggest that increased income inequality bc if covid will directly cause women to post “sexier selfies”. They also report all these correlations but no effect size. They couldve found a weak effect that’s easily explained by a confounding variable but of course they dont want to report that, and no journals want to publish that. They NEED to start saying whether its a weak, moderate or strong correlation, and reminding people that correlation does not mean causation. Just because theres a connection doesnt mean one causes the other, and you need to conduct a highly controlled study to determine cause.

I love how they interview someone who they know has like an addiction disorder to talk ab how he got addicted to pills and then try to make it seem like the pills are the problem.

You should check Embarassing Bodies out omg, it's a UK TV show where people would get fully naked on national television and expose their weird medical conditions to the public

I’d just like to say Noel that I really appreciate your kind of content, it’s gotten me through some rough spots during the lockdown. You’re really funny and this upload has made my day, I really thank you for this. Hope you’re coping ok too. I’m gonna keep watching now haha.

I love how more and more of the people I look up to are bringing more light to eczema. I've had it for most of my life and got bullied throughout school for having it on my face. Its so nice to know I'm not alone here :)
