Secret jace tactics vs domain never counter atraxa ever, never remove beanstalk, and play jace super early and -4 let them bind it so you can get it back again later. You cannot possibly lose to atraxa decks with a jace deck so you just ket them do whatever they want and sweep the board over and over
@SlothMtg
@SlothMtg Жыл бұрын
Oh man, that -4 is actually SUPER SMART! Never though of it, but now it makes perfect sense, they HAVE to bind it, or it destroys them, and 3 cards are basically no difference for such huge upside. Very, very good tip, pinned for others! Wp🔥🔥🦥

@SlothMtg I play Jace alot, and I have learned the first Jace is a sacrifice. -4 or (-5 if you have 2 in hand) is the play. Usually the 2nd Jace can go straight into drawing cards mid game, when you would need the extra draws.

Sloth i have to say i really love this. Especially the "concideration" phases between the games, where you pick the right cards for the matchup. It is really insightful. And yes, you could say it does get stale at some point because its not mono red all the time, but Atraxa Ramp decks. But at least as a control mage, you get really good games. You actually can think beyond turn 3, and you even have the chance to pick the better cards for the matchup. So for me, if Best of three becomes something regular on your channel, i would watch it all the time (even more interessting then best of one at some times xD). I myself think about moving to a different format (either timeless, Historic or Bestof3), because i cant stand mono red and soldiers every game.

Well its a Christmas miracle! Merry Christmas and definitely would love to see more Bo3. Most Domain decks will play the cavern just to not miss the mana drop. Everything costs so much mana you want it all on the field. Quick note for Bo3 it doesn't have the mana smoothing on the shuffler like Bo1 does so keeping that hand on your first Bo3 was a good call.

Please oh please Mr. Sloth, more Bo3! I've always felt you would thrive in a Bo3 format. You are a great player and analytical thinker. Let's be honest...sometimes Bo1 queue can really feel like playing a slot machine and the game is decided before its begun lol. And for this reason, I think its best to play Bo3 once you've secured mythic. It can really help you to maintain and climb rank & at least finish top 1200 to claim some play in points. Versus the possibility of getting burned multiple games in a row from Bo1 shuffler/matchmaker. 🤢 Lastly, it prepares you for qualifiers, events, meta game challenge, tournaments, etc. All stuff I'd love to see you play on this channel! 💪😎

Your foray into BO3 has earned my sub. I'm not into the BO1 surprise decks that have a short shelf life because the meta shift devours them. BO3 is what I play in paper, and I would like to see your decks handle post sideboard games so that I can truly consider them in real life. Thanks for your content, and Merry Christmas.

Hello Mr! I just discovered you today, and before anything I want to say how much I love what you are doing! I have watched some of your videos, a lot of the ones about Esper Control! I play a lot of control and mostly Esper and Azorius and I can not express how much your videos have helped me. Even small things such as the way you talk about using counterspells and managing the board, decisions with Memory Deluge etc. I love your positivity and sweetheart energy, it is something that I have really wanted to find from a Magic player, and I am surprised it has taken me so long to find somebody like you, you are just so jovial I love it to pieces! I would personally love to see you do more B03 content! I have wanted to learn about it for a while, and it really feels like I get to learn along with you as you go through your experiences here! I feel like your approach to learning is exactly what I want to see, you just take the mistakes in a really positive way and I seriously appreciate that so much! I would love to ask some questions as well, please! I have been playing card games for a while and always heavily lean towards control decks in them! I have been playing Magic consistantly for about half a year now I think? I always end up going back to Dimir control or playing around one of the three colours hahaha. I have been nervous to spend wildcards, but the majority of the decks I see people playing and most used cards etc I notice a lot of common cards that feel they would help me so much. Sunfall, Farewell, Jace and Kaya for example! I love all of these cards but have just been so nervous to craft them for some reason. Seeing as these kinds of things would be used in basically every single deck I play, do you think it would be worth making them? I have struggled to find information on what are helpful cards to help craft and it just makes me a bit nervous hahaha. I really like long games and heavy control decks so I love these slower cards that help with board control a lot and force me to make decisions. I mostly want to ask whar cards you think should be the priority to craft? I have over 20 Mythic and over 40 Rare wildcards and am not sure how many I should really use to make them. But hearing about Standard Rotation lasting for another year or so I think, I am deciding I should definitely start to use them. Thank you for all of the help, and apologies for the long message! You have put a big smile on my face and have genuinely really helped me learn so much in such little time! Thank you for all of the content you do and I am so excited to see more! I hope you have a wonderful day 💜

Hello my friend!❤ Needless to say, your comment was super wholesome, so nice to see that all the videos are helpful and even a bit entertaining - brings smile to me to read this!:) On cards, I think it depends, but first things first: 3-4 Sunfalls 1 farewell 4x Emperors (4 mana ones) - those cards are kinda needed to be as competitive as possible. 2 Jaces also are great - because they help vs atraxa matchups and those are extremely popular - hard to win otherwise, as their value never ends (and now you can't counter Atraxa most of the time). 3 and 4th Jaces aren't necessary, it's a bit of stylistical choice (card is solid, usually goes 2 for 1, and even meta aggro respects Jace ;). Kaya isn't super needed, she's nice but you can manage without her, 1x at most craft, as she is 7 drop. If you are in lower leagues, she is better, at highest tier she gets weaker as it's mostly mono red and mono white aggro :) She's strong vs Atraxa decks though, but Jace is still stronger there. If you want to play control with white - sunfalls are first craft, 1 farewell next :) Emperors too. Then you can think about the rest :) Teferi isn't necessary, void rends are only for esper, so it depends which colours you want to play - but strong card overall. Hope it helps a bit, mirrex is also extremely strong card (2-3 crafts will find place in most of your control decks). Dual lands and triomes, are also quite necessary to play azorius/esper/orzhov decks optimally, but it depends what you have - you kinda can play azorius control with basic lands, but you probably can't play it without sunfalls ;) Goodluck with wildcards man - Hopefully comment helps a bit to decide! All the best friend!❤🦥

I seriously can not thank you enough for such an in-depth response, I am smiling so much! You are so kind, it means so much to me! I will absolutely craft those ones then! I am mostly planning on Esper, so I can still go for Void Rend at the end! I assume the important lands are the ones that come in untapped if I have two or more mana, correct? I will do those, and 4x Raffine's Tower? I wanted to be able to handle Aggro and Atraxa in particular a lot and tbh since I got Jace I can feel how much better I handle the matchup. Such a helpful card! I really like him. I have a Celestus and Irencrag for Mana so they are giving me a headstart already, and have an Emporer as well! May I ask how many Memory Deluge you suggest? I have two from a long time ago and use it in almost every deck, so was wonderting if two more would be worth it! I know I am repeating myself, but I really can not thank you enough for all of this. You have been such a ray of sunshine and I appreciate it so much. Seriously excited to see more from you, and even if I am slow to comment on future ones I will be watching for a long time! I am currently going through your 2+ hour video on ranked and I would seriously love to see more long long videos like that one day! I really enjoy just laying in bed and being able to see you play for a long time. I am so excited to play ranked more now! I am Platinum 3 I think, so with a lot of the cards to deal with common threats it will help me so much more. Thank you again for all the help! I hope you have a wonderful day Mr, you deserve it so much 🐬❄🐈‍⬛ edit: I wanted to ask! May I ask what kind of black cards would work for an Esper etc control deck? I only know of a few like Siphon Insight which are really fun, and some planeswalkers I have seen. Past that I am not sure, may I ask if you have any advice for those? Apologies for so many questions!

I started watching you because CGB said it was "too hard" to play standard all the time and started making non-standard videos. I'll give this one video a try because you picked the right color combo and you've helped make me a control mage lol. I don't see myself being interested in B03 though. B01 is just nice with an active family and kids running around. On a side note, I've been crushing it with your counter spells azorious deck from 2-3 days ago. 17-8 (68%, ranked queue), 30-8 (79%, play queue). It's so dang versatile!

@@SlothMtg also, it is exactly like you said, if you are going to upload bo3 games, it will be mainly game against one person. This is why I never play bo3, it seems too commiting for casual gamer like me. You can say aggro players can win in 3/4 turns, bit you can also stop them in 3/4 turns getting you nice rank win in less than 5 min 😅 poor boring mono red... He plays the Cavern, and then immediately goes straight to combat, giving you the opportunity to now blow his land up with nothing he can do about it - leaving you with your Counter mana still free. That could have been a fatal mistake by your opponent right there. I think that was a strong indicator that he didn't have Atraxa in hand.

Sloth, thanks for going Bo3. I am looking forward to watching this video. I discovered this deck too, and it's very cool how it was able to take down that huge tournament. It feels very greedy, specializing against the usual matchups (domain and rdw/aggro), sharks maindeck... what did you think about it?
@undahraadaundahraada5594
@undahraadaundahraada5594 Жыл бұрын
I think BO3 is less popular right after a set is released because there's often quite a high wildcard cost to crafting the deck PLUS the sideboard but after a few weeks it's been possible to pick up cards or wildcards from playing Limited / opening packs, and then it gets more accessible (also with less risk of crafting cards that fall out of use as the meta settles down). I think that right now is probably the best time to be doing it, as the metagame is well established and filling out a deck or sideboard should be less costly. A lot of people also often have real trouble with sideboarding choices between games, which can put them off, especially if they aren't very familiar with the meta. But if there's no content showing knowledgeable players making solid sideboarding choices, that aspect of the game is always going to be difficult. For all of those reasons, I'd like to see you do more BO3 - even if it were just fitting in one BO3 match at the end of your daily BO1 deck videos with a sideboard for the meta? That might give you a bit more "can you do more/less BO3 in the videos, please?" feedback? That's my penny's worth, but at the end of the day we're spectators, and you are a hugely entertaining player because you're a great player having FUN. If BO3 is not fun for you, don't do it - feedback be damned. If you're not having fun, we're probably not going to have fun either.

I'm not sure how well Bo3 would work for your videos. It's definitely more suited for your playstyle than Bo1, so I'm in favor of it. The main issue is that you'll get fewer games per video and possibly not enough variety unless you make them longer.

Back In The Day Bo3 was really about beating the meta. Mono-red or mono-blue could be beat with a single card post-sideboard so playing those decks was a big risk if that was the expected meta. Combo decks could be easily stopped if you had the right sideboard. 5-color decks would be wrecked by anti-non-basic hate. These Days, the effect of the sideboard is not a strong and proper sideboarding is not as important in beating the meta.
