That’s my biggest problem with “new to souls” play through videos. A lot of them get overwhelmed with the difficulty that they pay no attention to the surrounding fromsoft atmosphere. An example being I just watched someone beat Genichiro without lightning reversal because he missed the text. I just clicked on this video randomly so I hope he delivers like you say!

I have always found the 1st eavesdrop to be of great importance in terms of setting up the world and contrasting itself from other Fromsoftware games. Not only does it show you that the enemies you fight here are not mindless hollows but it also quite subtly establishes the idea that killing them is by no means a moral thing to do. The soldiers are very clearly sympathetic of a child being locked up meaning that they are just doing their jobs and have no preceeding ill-intentions.

You realise as you get through the game that Ashina is more of a neutral 3rd party that is really just trying to survive. Their method of doing so just happens to force you to get involved.

@@leithaziz2716(semi-spoilery kinda) It turns out that Sekiro may be more of an antagonist in the grand scheme of things because of how he destroys Ashina's defenses. Of course, Owl is another one that causes a lot of trouble, for less noble reasons

Opposite of a-priori as the dialogue acts as evidence of the claim, but true
@soumyadeepbanerjee964
@soumyadeepbanerjee964 10 ай бұрын
@@SenriamFrom my experience "a-priori" is often used in parlance in a very different manner than say a kantian sense. At anyrate it is not the state of us (the player) knowing about the mentality of the enemies that I was referring to but rather the mentality of the enemies itself. Finally, I said "have no a-priori..." which is to say that for the soldiers it is NOT a sensibility devoid of certain experiences (in this case taking orders) that leads them to help the restraining of Kuro. So I was saying that the soldiers guarding the place is based on knowledge a-posteriori (which is arguably distinct from the nature of the hollows being an impediment to the player in Dark Souls). However, think I could have used a different word to avoid confusion (changed it now, although it probably wasn't required). (I have only read Kant's first critique in a casual sense- if such a thing can be done😅, I am not a philosophy student so I am not particularly well-versed in the academic use of these terms, I must clarify)

You can stealth dealthblow almost every enemy in this game. Mini-bosses and even some bosses too. So stealth is important. Also when you jump over a sweeping attack press jump again on top of your enemy and deal posture damage. When you learn Mikiri Counter you can counter thrust attacks and deal a lot of posture damage. And good video as always. Hope you enjoy Sekiro! Edit: You missed a tool that breaks shield. It is at one of the cabins at Hirata Estate if I remember correctly. Before 2 shield guy. Also use only gourd and pellet for quickuse slots. Others will only trouble you.

So excited you've started Sekiro! A few things... 1. Rest in order to reset enemies. Sitting down just brings up the menu but you have to select Rest to reset and heal yourself/get your gourds back. 2. In Hirata Estate you glazed over it but you picked up something called Flame Barrel. You should probably take a look at that ;) 3. Also in Hirata Estate, you already passed the pagoda the looter was talking about. Take a closer look around the area... 4. Check back with the training guy often and do ALL the training options. There are some key things about combat you haven't picked up on. A small example is jumping over a sweeping attack with the red warning sign is how you evade it but if you press jump again in mid-air you can actually kick them on the way down and deal posture damage. 5. Stamina is not a thing in this game. 6. You did it at the end there but in case you didn't realize it: if you start a mini-boss fight with a stealth attack you can drop them by one dot right away. Makes fighting them a bit easier. And I wouldn't think of it as cheating. Stealth is a viable and encouraged way to deal with enemies in this. You are a shinobi, afterall. You're catching on super fast, though! I'm stoked to see you deal with some of the difficulties of this game, it can be super hard but, like you said, extremely rewarding. Edit: Almost forgot! Dashing in the water makes you swim faster and helps when trying to get those evasive carp.

Stoked for you to get to experience this masterpiece! This game has my favorite combat system in a game ever. Here's 3 things I wish I'd known from the start that can dramatically effect how you play the game. 1. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as the red kanji doesn't come up, you can parry it, even if it doesn't make sense. 2. While doing an attack string on an enemy, at some point, they will parry you. You can tell by the sound and sparks. That's how you know when to go on the defensive. 3. As long as you keep successfully parrying hits, your posture will NEVER break.

Trust me, we're all here for you and have the patience to see this through the long haul. Unlike Elden Ring (which also has a "sneak" button) sneaking actually matters and is really useful in this game! So if you're trying to scout enemies from afar on rooftops and such try crouching more since it greatly reduces the chances of you being spotted. As far as the combat goes you actually impressed me with how quickly you got the basics down but don't let it get into your head cause there's stil a lot more you have to learn mechanics wise.

FromSoft used to produce a Shinobi Stealth/Action game series called Tenchu. Years back they announced that they were reviving two of their old IPs. One was supposed to be Tenchu and the other Armored Core which is getting a new game in August. In Tenchu there was a lot of wall climbing, wall jumping, grappling, stealth kills, a variety of tools, jumping, etc. Tenchu is the backbone of Sekiro. Sekiro was initially supposed to be a brand new Tenchu game but more and more the dev team found themselves incorporating things from the Souls series until the game took on an identity of its own. If you're curious and considering playing older FromSoft games consider giving Tenchu a try.

When there is a crowd, use things such as crouching stealth takedowns to thin the crowd. You can even use stealth to sneak up on mini-bosses and start the fight with one deathblow. This would also be useful in case there is an eavesdrop option and you don’t alert the enemies before you can.

Holding up guard mid battle recovers your posture more. Also you can run away really easily by just going up and resting to reset instead of dying because dying too much isn't good.

It's refreshing seeing someone actually slow down, read, and appreciate a game and its music. So many streamers rush and skip reading the basics then get frustrated when they don't understand the combat mechanics or story. Appreciate the chillness too, suscribed since I love FS games. Sekiro has the best combat in any game imo, feels like a real sword fight

The open field bosses can be skipped and even sneak attacked to start off the battle with one less deathblow. Really recommend that approach for those samurai bosses.
@themightymcb7310
@themightymcb7310 10 ай бұрын
I actually disagree, stealth deathblowing the samurai bosses robs the player of this games "git gud" practice. They all use moves that inadvertently teach the player how to handle the first major roadblock boss of the game and skipping half their health bar means you can get by without learning.
@redfish337
@redfish337 10 ай бұрын
@@themightymcb7310 You can learn against the boss itself. It's not a samurai game. You rob yourself of the ninja experience if you play that way. The game wants you to be cheezy and a lot of the fun in the game is figuring out how to do that. That's why the game gives them the two healthbars instead of just one with more vit and posture.

@@redfish337 some enemies, yes. Like the drunkards, they absolutely encourage you to use Shinobi tactics because of how dangerous they are. I only disagree for the samurai specifically because of how fun their movesets are.

Dont forget you are shinobi, sneak, run away, use the element of surprise. The axe is goated for shields. Explore high and low, this game really rewards for full exploration. The love to hide hidden paths high and low so really observe and be sure to look for any jump swing prompts even if they look out of reach. Also paths far far below on sides of cliffs, no fall damage. When at vendors buy up all their coin bags. And remember hesitation is defeat.

LETS GO! Love ya, Mati. Enjoy this amazing game :) One thing I will say is that as long as an attack is not unblockable with the red Kanji above their heads (sweep attacks) or a grab, EVERYTHING, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING else can be blocked or deflected (timed block). No matter how ridiculous it may look, this will be useful to know for some bosses later on. If you keep deflecting, it makes a sharper sound, while block is a dull sound. If you keep deflecting, your posture will NEVER be broken. If you block however while it is full, you will get staggered, that is where you can then dodge backwards. You can even deflect special Mikiri thrusts of enemies if you deflect correctly. Hold the block/guard button mostly, if you keep holding it, your posture will quickly decrease. But the lower you health gets, the slower will your posture fall. Also, use the prosthetics, each has a particular use and every enemy has some particular prosthetic that is good against them, while also some they can counter. There is one particular prosthetic later on that can even fully cancel any grab attack in the game. Also, in general, you do not want to dodge, but instead deflect. Dodging is much harder here. The only exception are bosses that have grab attacks and you do not have that special prosthetic. Even big bosses you would not dodge, but instead deflect. Some attacks may give you chip damage, those usually require a particular prosthetic designed for that type of attack (such as fire). Otherwise, you generally dodge when you get posture broken when you get staggered, you can dodge backwards which usually saves you from taking damage.

First off, THANK YOU ! I started watching your Elden Ring playthru aaand went on and watched Bloodborbe and DS ones. Absolutely loved them, the appreciation you show to the genre and OST is much deserved. If you want to dive into a similar game as DS. The despair and everything that is Dark Souls. Then i would HIGHLY recommend Nioh and Nioh 2. They are the only games that gave me the similar feeling as Dark Souls gave. Much love and hope you are doing well 🙏

I’ve been waiting for this Sekiro playthrough! So excited! A few things / tips 1). You picked up a flame vent and missed another one in one of the little huts to the right in the Hirata Estate - Make sure you fit them to your prosthetic tool as some of them are effective against certain enemies and bosses. 2). Make sure you get the Miriki counter skill ASAP. It’s a must have against perilous (red danger symbol) thrust attacks from normal mobs and bosses. Can’t wait for the next one!!!

Always fun to watch! Like always I want to mention some things that I've noticed you might not be aware, I was also not aware in my first playthrough. -Blocking and deflecting are same buttons, if you hold it you simply block and if you time it and tap you deflect. It is basically a rythm. What you might not notice, if "your own" posture bar is filled you can hastily reduce it by holding block. Not recommended for heavy agressive enemies -Hirata estate has three shinobi tools, you picked flame barrel and didn't notice in the heat. There is also "axe" as npc told you and something hidden up above, maybe explore :) -Carp scales is a form of currency for some npcs. As you see you can swim in this game and while swimming you "dash" by dodge button. Also, keep this river in mind, there might be more to swimming in future.(keeping the spoilers low here) -You can duck in this game and it is more useful than ER, it reduces the detection range of enemies. In addition if you use gachiin sugar, you are basically invisible. -IIRC sugar duration is one minute, you might want to use some. In my first playthrough, I basically never used. Tough for beginners, Ako and Ungo is most useful and safe imo. Gaachin for speed skips and in later stages Yashariku is pure burst. Gokan is not very useful. -There are several balloons that you can pop, each increases something(sen gain, spirit emblem gain, overall drop rate etc.) but the duration is quiet low imo. I almost ignored basically all of them in my first playthrough. - In death you lose half of sen(money) and half of exp bar(if you filled a bar you keep that point! You only lose the next level progress). You'll use these points in future, unlocking some abilities etc. - Unseen aid is complicated luck based stuff, I basically ignored it. In short, as long as you resurrect and die, you are causing a sickeness for NPCs, in time, NPCs become sick and some become unable to service you. Tough AFAIK, most crucial ones can still provide their services. In worst case, unseen aid percentage drops to %1. I might be wrong here but this is no concern for overall story progress and endings. - Having high amounts of sen is risky. You lose them when you die there is a way to somehow keep less of it. In world, some NPCs sell coin purses. You cannot gain profit from them. 100 sen purse costs 110 sen. But with this 10% "tax" you get to keep your sen in case you die and when you need it, you can simply use this purse and gain the money when you want to buy something. -There is no stat improvement, only you farm prayer beads form bosses and from world. 4 beads = more hp/more posture. And damage can be incresed from killing key bosses. All of these can be done from rest points.

Glad to see you coming right over here from souls, I think that is the best way to experience this game. The way the game specifically punishes playing it like a souls game makes it a steep learning curve, especially with leveling up being completely different. But there are a few bosses later on that really make it click in such a natural way that makes it so satisfying, like you finally know how to unleash the shinobi warrior within. Once I finally had that ah ha moment myself this became my favorite combat system in any game hands down as the fights only get better the more you master the game as opposed to just being able to outlevel or overpower them with your build.
