First Time Playing World of Warcraft - Weste's Journey to 60

As a longtime player and longtime soloist of MMOs and WoW, I have tips for you. Also to answer your question: there is a "main story" but also not really in classic. The main story for Alliance takes place in the Eastern Kingdoms, which is across the ocean from the Night Elf area. You will have to take a boat there from Dark Shore, which is the next zone. But if you're in classic you land in Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands and will have to walk through a level 20+ zone. You'll have to walk all the way from Menethil Harbor to Ironforge the Dwarf city which is in the zone called Dun Morogh south of Wetlands (it's kind of a long walk,) then you can take the underground trail to Stormwind, the human city and Alliance capital. If you're in Wrath of the Litch King Classic, the boat takes you straight to Stormwind. The main starting story for the Alliance are quests involving a group called the Defias brotherhood, I won't say more due to spoilers. Main story quests are scattered among all other quests, it's not very linear like other RPGs. Each zone has it's own main story as well. You don't have to the "main story," you can stay in the Night Elf area and just play their stories. Some soloing tips is to grind more mobs than you need for each quest, there will be times when quests won't get you to level so that extra xp padding is good. Doing quests when they are easier (green text in the quest tracker,) and fighting green mobs with green names is more efficient. It means they are lower level but you take less damage and can kill faster which is more xp over time due to less downtime and deaths. Have food in your bag and eat after fights when you are low health. There are also foods that give you stat boosts, you often get these from quests but can also learn cooking if you want. For warrior it's also good to take up the First Aid profession and make bandages out of cloth drops. Try to get mail gear (chain mail) whenever possible, that's the best gear for warrior class. Save your money for your skills as much as possible, they get expensive. Classic leveling, especially solo, is about strategy and learning when to do quests, remember caves are dangerous if the mobs are close to your level, and not get discouraged. For me, I go around picking up the low level quests for all the starting areas but for Alliance I usually start as Dwarf, Gnome, or Human because they all share a common area, Night Elves have the disadvantage of their starting area being isolated.

Ooh, so there is a main story! Right now, I'm at Dark Shore! Btw tell me one thing, am i supposed to all the quests in that zone? Or can i just do half and then move on? And yeh, im playing the normal classic wow. People have told me that i shouldnt have started with this one, but the retail one, and that warrior was a poor choice to make. So i have to do that all to get to the main story right? I'll enjoy my way till there ahah :D Thats why quests require a higher level even tho i've done all quests in that area! Im supposed to kill more mobs to level up (obviously duh XD) I'll get that First aid profession then! It seems useful for my class! I got mail gear in the auction house bc someone in game had a flamign sword and i asked him how he got it and he told me to buy stuff in the auction house. Thx for the tips! Ill try to do them :D

@@WestendeYT I think it's fine you started with classic. You don't have to do all the quests, and you can do quests that are too low of a level even if the ! disappears over the quest giver's head, which will be the case if you want to go to Elwynn Forest to get the early quests that tie into the main story. You could get the addon called Questie if you don't have it, which will show you quests are there even if too low. You also still get some xp for doing them, but not much. But every bit of xp can help sometimes. The game does not present the main story in a linear way in Classic like retail does, but retail is still not great at linear storytelling. When I first started WoW it was confusing and I didn't know there were main stories at all until someone told me after I played for 2 years, and each expansion has it's own story. You have to piece things together, and most people watch KZbinrs who put it all together (one popular one is Nobell87,), or read the Wiki. Also, there's tons of books and comic books about the lore, and much of it gets retconned as you go, so I call WoW's story "Soup." There's lots of good chunks in soup, but it's all just kind of floating together in the broth. So my advice is just enjoy the story as best you can. But the bigger stories are told by quests that take you to many zones. Also the good thing about Classic is it's more immersive because it is harder. Retail early game is very easy and fast. There is more quality of life stuff. Wrath of the Litch King is sort of in the middle, a bit easier but also not too easy. But that classic expansion is going to end soon for Cataclysm Classic, so if you want the Classic story, stick with Classic. But, you can try out all the versions and see which you like best. I play them all, I like them all.
