I'm a World of Warcraft noob
World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. Set in the Warcraft fantasy universe, World of Warcraft takes place within the world of Azeroth, approximately four years after the events of the previous game in the series, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. The game was announced in 2001, and was released for the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise on November 23, 2004. Since launch, World of Warcraft has had nine major expansion packs: The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010), Mists of Pandaria (2012), Warlords of Draenor (2014), Legion (2016), Battle for Azeroth (2018), Shadowlands (2020), and Dragonflight (2022).

they're fixing the "new player" thing next Patch I think, or next expac, one of the two. you Start in Dragonflight and then head to the new expac.

Haven't played retail WoW sense Warlords , dam Blizzard actually made the Trolls look kool , I remember when they looked like Popeye the Sailor man with Tusk in 2004 😂 .. I play the hell out of *Turtle WoW* the fan mod server High Elves on the Alliance and Goblins on the Horde in 2004 vanilla classic , been having fun with that

My cousin started playing with me this year and it's been fun to show him WoW. It's revealed a lot of issues in the game but also made me find more joy.

You hit the nail on the headfor Classic it was meant to be the Grand Adventure, and allow you to explore everything, if you haven't yet SoD is a nice mix of some retail in the Classic world, my guild has been enjoying it a lot and have considered swapping to it as the main game over Cataclysm when it drops.

A good way to keep and introduce new players to the long term player base would be centering parts of the new expansion content around the zones where new players are lead into after the tutorial. Currently that's rough with BFA since it is so self-contained. But with the upcoming expansion(s) this should be more likely doable.

Started playing in Legion and one of my favorite WoW memories was staying up until 5 am playing the BFA levelling in a discord call with my guildmates the night it launched. Nothing more fun or hype than an expansion launch

this is a refreshing take on this game. I've been playing wow the majority of my life, started in dec of 2004 as a child. So many people just bag on retail/classic for whatever silly reason. Its nice to see you enjoy both games for what they are. also your videos are great. grats on one year

Retail is called retail, because before we got classic, it was the only version you could play from the boxes you got from retail stores. You also had private servers, often running (illegal copies of) older builds. They weren't retail because they weren't the official game sold in the stores. And the name just kinda stuck, for the newest patch it's just retail wow still.

I started playing WoW a month ago, so nostalgia doesnt mess with my head....I started with Classic because of the hype....I quickly didnt like how outdated and bland it looked but what made me stop playing so quickly was how you can struggle so much with mobs your own level, making things take much longer than what they should. I then tried Retail and im HOOKED! soooo MUCH quality of life, so much life and color, UI is smooth, flying is cool and leveling was definitely made with the purpose of taking you to the end game activities....I've tried playing Classic again and cant play more than 10 mins lol but i know for many, Classic is where is at....Nostalgia is a hell of a drug

As someone who started during Wrath of the Lich King, it does bother me that new players are dropped into BFA. For one thing, BFA was not regarded as one of the better expansions (at least at the time), and as you said, the story is all over the place. I think Pandaria might be a better starting zone, but that's just personal preference. However, when I was starting WoW there were the many different Classic areas I could choose from to level in. This was before servers were linked to each other, so getting into a specific dungeon of that specific zone as a DPS took a LONG time, though that may be because I'm on a lower pop server. It's definitely a totally different experience now, since back then levelling took a much longer time. I'm glad to see you will continue playing in the future, and it will be awesome to see you play the next xpac!

if you have never done so already, you could try RS3 as well since you’re an old school player. i personally look at it the same way you do retail and classic wow. trying both is definitely worth it if you already like one and they are so different from one another that it’s hard to compare them directly anymore.

Don’t know if you’ve tried it yet but if you are looking for an mmo that has a good story that you play all the way though you could try out FF14. A bit of a slow start but it’s worth it. Plus you can play all the classes on one character.

I feel like people still refer to retail by whatever expansion it is. unless they dont know the expansion. It's been called retail for as long as I can remember, and I believe it has something to do with private servers and Retail refers to the price you have to pay to play real wow the non private server version.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I just started playing WoW, but aren't you unable to play the previous campaigns until you have one character fully leveled to 60? Through Chromie time right? I'm a retail wow noob severely as I've mostly been playing seasons of discovery! Honestly I'm new to MMOs in general and classic has been pretty chill but fuck I die a ton and have had so many moments of "holy shit I can't believe I didnt realize I was supposed to do this" . I still don't entirely know what all I'm doing or why I die so much. The first time seeing that my armor needs to be repaired I was just like, oh I was wondering why I was running around in my boxers lmao. I am having a blast though learning an entirely new genre of game. It's nice to see there's other new players out there. BTW The videos are BOMB. Just subbed!

The game is ok, but the people who you play with is the key to keep you playing. I played with certain people for the first 15 years of the game till we all quit. Some of us have played from time to time but when you dont have the people to play with than it sucks. The game is made alot for solo players now and that sucks....the people i used to play with were everything.

Been following your journey on and off while I've been playing FFXIV, and its been an interesting one seeing how someone who has never played WoW before adapt and progress, as I've been playing WoW since its early days in 2004. Glad to see you are enjoying it and I do hope to run into you sometime! Also lowkey you should give FFXIV a try if you want something more story focused. What blizzard is trying with the saga story for the next three expansions they got from FFXIV's story structure a bit. You can try FFXIV entirely for free with no time cap up until Level 70, with some restrictions obviously, but I'm not here to give you the whole meme of its free trial. Go enjoy the mmos you want to play!
