@@mysonandme8424 There are the same number and kind of "sensitive people" as always. You have to be literally a child to believe it's new. People tried to get The Simpsons thrown off the air because Bart said something "sucks." They tried to get Elvis Presley banned for swaying his hips. They tried to ban rap and metal in the '80s for using curse words and mentioning reality. And spoiler alert, sometimes they succeeded. Radio or TV affiliates wouldn't play something; or there were warnings played before an episode or song; "explicit lyrics" labels and ratings systems are their doing. Censored versions of songs and TV episodes are their doing. FCC content restrictions are their doing. From decades before you were born. And none of it is logical or ethical in any way, it's just because of their idiotic feelings. So get over yourself. The struggle against stupidity is eternal.

Here’s what people your age seem to miss about these shows. They were revealing the social problems, including racism by showing with humor how stupid racism is!! Archie Bunker was on a journey that ended with him adopting a Jewish niece and he changed because he had the opportunity to interact with people who were different from him. Archie learned to be a better human being because of that. All in the Family wasn’t glorifying or endorsing Archie’s opinions, it resonated with people because they had people in their lives who acted like Archie and it gave people the courage to talk about some of the most and social problems of the day. Thousands of discussions were sparked in families who would sit and watch the show every week. You cannot judge the show by today’s standards. That is just like taking a statement completely out of context which can change the meaning and intent. This was the first show to address racism of all kinds, abortion, homosexuality and even included a cross dressing character who taught Archie a lesson about treating everyone fairly and helped Archie move a little but closer to being a better person. All of these people helped him grow and change,

I'm 59 and grew up with those shows. None of those 70s and 80s shows should be cancelled in the current day. That's the problem with current culture and TV programming. People are way too sensitive and snowflakey today, and so they just have to cancel every single thing that they don't like. Now Married w/ Children is just mostly crude. It doesn't have any social redeeming value. But I don't have to watch it. I don't need to cancel it.

This show was a riot! I could not believe (at the time) how inappropriate it was. I was young then, but I still knew this, even without my mom screaming at us to "turn the channel." Viewers were angry at how raunchy this show was and insisted it be taken off air. In hindsight, I think that was the whole point of the show. We weren't supposed to learn heartwarming, profound lessons. We were supposed to laugh and appreciate that we aren't as trashy and morally bankrupt as the Bundy family. They say everything we sometimes wish we had the nerve to say!

Marfied with Children was originally titled Not the Cosby Show or something like that because it was a direct fire on all the goody goody sitcoms up until that point. The Bundy’s were a cartoonish parody of real life. They were the first of their kind & definitely challenged the censors back in 89 when they debuted. One week, a disgruntled lady(known as Karens these days) wrote & complained about the shows vulgarity but it only made the show more popular. They lasted what, about 11 years & at one time was the longest running sitcom in America. I live it & why I don’t fir in today’s weak ass society. Well fighting in Iraq & a two year prison stint also destroyed my filter too.

Another commenter said that the overweight women you see in the episodes were comedians who wrote all the "fat jokes". Another thing about the show is that it was about all four family members so it wasn't such a concentration of Al insults that you see here.
@jec1ny

The reason that show was so popular is because secretly a lot of guys can identify with Bundy, or we know someone like him. Here's a guy that wakes up every morning, goes to work in a dead end job he hates, and then goes home to a domestic situation that is something short of bliss. Al takes the opportunities when they come along to flip the bird to the world.

still a favourite of mine, this show was hilarious. As offensive as it was to a lot of people it was a big hit in late 80's and most of 90's. Some of the shows of today would not be allowed in the 70's, the foul language and some nudity was a no-no back then. I remember it was a big deal if a show had words like damn or shit in it. The Simpsons which started around the same time as married with children, would of been non existent in early 70's, appalling to the masses because of Bart 's character in particular ( a kid allowed to talk so rude), but was a hilarious show that i enjoyed when i could.

The reason Al Bundy and mean characters like that were able to get away with things like this is because they always got their come uppances. What they don't show in these clips is later when he would get his. Usually Marcy would bust him or Peg and the kids would ruin his fun or in one episode a coalition of the over weight women tied him up. His life was always bad and he never , ever won. Except when he scored 4 touchdowns n a single game in high school of course! Same with Louis De Palma on Taxi. That's what's missing in today's characters. Sheldon Cooper is terrible to his friends and gets away with it. He's a bully. Al was once sent to Hell but the devil sent him back because his suffering was worse in the real world, lol! And yet, this guy never cheated on his wife and never ran out on his kids. Who by the way were all terrible!

I read somewhere that the original working title for Married With Children was originally called "Not The Cosby's".

These shows don't try and say everyone is like this, or that anyone should behave this way. The problem the woke crowd would have issues with this is that they think people should not be "allowed" to be like this. A lot of people believe there should be criminal charges for "misgendering". ( I misspelled this and the autocorrect did not have another replacement to offer because like the the new genders, it is totally made up).

Humor is supposed to be controversial. So many of those who cry loudest cannot laugh at themselves.

Archie Bunker was not old you just think he was. When I was 21 and a little boy of 7 yrs ask me how old I was and I told him. His response was: "Gee you are really old". I just had to laugh at that one because to him I was really old.

I miss that time!!! You guys these days are so....sensitive.... Its ridiculous!!! The real world is a hard place and not everybody is going to worry about your little sensitive feelings! I'm glad I taught my kids about the "Real World"!!! Most of the mothers I know feel the same way.....its gone too far! Most people are tired of this nonsense!
