Don't over think the standing positions on stage. They switched it up for every song. Sometimes it was three on a mike, other times two of them together with the third at the keyboards, it varied. You should watch them live in las vegas. You can get the entire concert, or just pieces of it. But you get to see all the different stances, including Too Much Heaven with them singing all three at the microphone.

Barry finally cemented his status as an immortal falsetto legend on the triumphant Spirits Having Flown Tour 1979. No one could sing as high with so much powerful as Barry Alan Crompton Gibb. Many made fun of the Helium Sound. But what the heck🖕 when you sell hundreds of millions of records. 👍🔥There's a great saying, envy is earned, pity is given. 😆

Barry and Rob ( in the middle) clashed abit.,Maurice, the twin with the beard, was the peacemaker, the man in the middle. Andy was just guest starring here, he was never a bee gee, he had a successful solo career. Barry and Andy were very close but Barry was angry at Andy’s drug addiction and they’d had words about it just before Andy died. Under it all, they did all love each other though.. typical siblings really.

If you have not watched, how can you mend a broken heart the documentary about their lives you must do this. You are right when you say there was dissension between the brothers. Barry and Robin fought a lot. They broke up in 1970 because they were fighting over who was going to get the a side of the record. Barry will tell you that Maurice was always in the middle of the feuding. He then performed the song called “man in the middle”, because he was always the peacemaker between the brothers. Life is too short. Barry will tell you he was fighting with each of his brothers when each one passed.

Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3zHc4mBmLiGidk which is kind of a duet with Barry. And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ_MiYaebNuKiKs Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXnCm2xmm6h8oZY, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJerhoZrgstjZrM. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4Wcp4V-iLyBmM0. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXKXdHykedOHoZo. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2eVeJ93etWZqLs.

I think andy was only singing this song with them at the end of their live concert, which is why there were only three microphones. I recommend listening to "Medley" by the Bee Gees in 1989. It's a mix of a lot of their older songs, which they sing live very well.

Most of the problems were in the late 60s when Robin briefly left. They had issues with Andy before he passed because of his drinking. He had given up drugs but still drank heavily. His problem with Robin was over their different ways of grieving after Mo passed. Robin changed the wording of Wish you were here and sang it after Mo's death. All 3 of them wrote the original for Andy when he passed. Barry said he would never understand why Robin did that. If you listen to the words Robin sang I understand why he did. It was how he felt at the time. All 4 said that was the best night of their life and it was that night it was decided that Andy would join them.

@@laurelcarter1573 - I truly wish Barry had finished "Sydney" as Robin apparently had wanted because it was only Barry who was left and who could remember the good times in Australia as young boys with the lyrics, I'm back in Sydney and my brothers are with me. 😭Regardless, Barry did write his own tribute.
@MM-rd4wm
@MM-rd4wm Жыл бұрын
I agree. I think those were Robin's personal lyrics for Andy. I think he changed it because he wanted to respect Barry and the original song. Because Barry couldn't sing it live which is absolutely understandable but Robin needed to sing it live to Andy on stage which is understandable also. I never understood why Barry didn't ask Robin or why Robin didn't explain that to Barry.

Barry Gibb had over 3 octave range, which is crazy. You were right they still sounded great live. Barry and Andy, oldest and youngest both had solo careers, gotta think that could cause conflict. But all were wildly talented, nothing like sibling harmonies.
@susieq9801
@susieq9801 Жыл бұрын
Robin also had amazing range and a solo career. He had very successful LP's (mainly in Europe since The Bee Gees were blacklisted in the US after the disco era due to overexposure) , "Walls have eyes", "How old are you", "Magnet", "Secret Agent" and the posthumous "60 St Catherines Drive" as well as "Robin's Reign" that he did when 19 during their split. Music critics said he had a 4 to 5 octave range and amazing vibrato and all the brothers could sing falsetto as well. Maurice had a wide range from baritone to falsetto but did not do a lot of solo work although he helped Robin produce and compose his LP's and was vital to The Bee Gees as the best musician and an amazing harmonist.

@@susieq9801 oh come on you said he wanted to start talking to stop the twins crying because you like to tell everyone he was a bully to the twins. You and I both know it. Adding a lol and an emoji means nothing to those that know. I look at many videos and see the ones that comment all the time. There is certainly a dislike of Barry in your comments and total adoration of Robin, very obvious. When I comment it is never anything negative about any of the boys. Dont understand why "fans" would do that, like how does this make anything better, just sayin.

FOUR of them. My God I’m not sure if we would have known even how to handle that!! I get it; Andy needed his own musical path instead of just being the baby of the bunch back-up singing. But it would have been beautiful to see what they could have all done together long-term. And of coarse, no need to mention the tragedy of Andy’s life being extinguished so early, when his story was just starting! (RIP) You know how twins are fascinating but identical triplets are on another level? Make it FOUR. 🤔🥹😣😞

After '80, Andy very much wanted to join his brothers. Sadly by '87, Barry had already been outvoted twice for him to join, by his own brothers.

A N D Y . !!!! I think there are millions of people who feel sad that Andy wouldn’t join his brothers. I get it why Andy didn’t, but there are only so many windows to choose with not take backs or do overs. Bummer. I wasn’t there because I was born a little later but love them all the same. Such a loss. Only 1 of 4 left. I don’t know how he copes. 🫤❤️ This was one of Andy’s songs as an independent artist. But even on the recorded album you can tell his brothers sang back up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4mugYhngq10ibcsi=A260EClaYwnCwJjP

Well, Robin and Maurice were fraternal twins, so they were closer, and Barry was always closest to Andy. And I think it's really hard to find your own way in life while still living and working so closely and frequently with the same people you grew up with. It's hard to shake those family roles that you feel may no longer fit you. Barry took his role as the eldest brother very seriously, and quite frankly, I think Robin got tired of him calling most of the shots. Robin was the one who did the most solo work I think. And when Maurice died, Barry and Robin grieved in different ways. Maurice was also the glue in a lot of ways, and it's no coincidence that Robin and Barry never recorded again after Maurice died. But at the end of the day, they were family, and they did love each other. But yes, their relationships were complex.

This live performance is out in the open air whilst 'Too much Heaven' was performed in an enclosed space, so the sound quality would be different. They have made quite a number of live appearances on talk shows with just their guitars and their voices always sounded so amazing like the studio version.

The 3 brothers were very close or were fighting there was no in between. Robin, it is said, was difficult for anyone to get along with at times. This was “the moment” for their brothers, they were just ecstatic when Andy came on stage.

Yes, Robin was difficult to get along with, hence why he failed in his personal relationships. Barry & Mo were thrilled to have Andy perform with them, but as you can see, Robin not so much.

You can see the BeeGees live on The Midnight Special. The very talented Andy Gibb also performed on The Midnight Special & Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. There are many clips of Andy hosting Solid Gold, guesting on many shows, singing duets, performing for troops with Bob Hope, singing classics with Dean Martin, etc. He could sing any genre with anyone and DID! Check him out singing a Command Performance of Words, a song his brother Barry always sang lead on--his version is astounding & with the shadow of a beard their resemblance is amazing💕

It was often ssid that Robin only liked to sing in concert and while in studio writing and recording, while the other three would play and sing together just for the fun of it.

Rhrre was a period between Robin and Barry lasted about a year and a half. Barry said it was because being the older brother in life, he was trying to be the same in the he group. Poor maurice was the man 😔 n the middle, hence the song. But Barry realized zed rhat as a group they just had to work together. And after the that they did. They quit performing together after the 1st of them (besides Andy) died. Said it just didnt feel right

I think Andy like being able to roam the stage and sing with each of his brothers instead of being tied to one spot. This was still the day of wired mics and guitars so they didn't roam much from their spot at all, plus roaming around would mess up the lighting plan if they wandered out of their light. I love Robin but you don't want to get to close to him when he's dancing! You might catch an elbow if he's really into it! Probably why Andy kept a good distance between them! For future concert reaction try Bee Gees and Chuck Berry doing Johnny B Good or Reeling, Rocking, and Rolling. Both are from the official Midnight Special channel and are a lot of fun! This was early 70's Bee Gees in the lull between their initial success in the late 60's and comeback in the mid 70's. The 1989 Melborne concert is also great live performances and the medley segment is a great one to react to.
