I read somewhere that 'Too Much Heaven' was the live Orchestra Rehearsal in the studio before the Unicef Concert and they decided to use it to record the single. Which is why both twins look to be listening carefully to the music while Barry was singing and they were not.

You should watch the documentary How Do You Mend A Broken Heart. Also the more interviews you watch the more you see how funny the three of them are. Robin is very intellectual. Read so many books a week. They all had their personal things they went through but they managed to put out over five decades of masterpieces.

Barry and Rob ( in the middle) clashed abit.,Maurice, the twin with the beard, was the peacemaker, the man in the middle. Andy was just guest starring here, he was never a bee gee, he had a successful solo career. Barry and Andy were very close but Barry was angry at Andy’s drug addiction and they’d had words about it just before Andy died. Under it all, they did all love each other though.. typical siblings really.

Funny you mentioned (& noticed) their body language @4:35, & the 3 brothers not going near the middle brother. Recently, someone who attended the Oakland concert said Robin did NOT want Andy on that stage that night (he appeared 4 times with them throughout the tour), which is likely why he kept going from Mo to Barry.

Don't over think the standing positions on stage. They switched it up for every song. Sometimes it was three on a mike, other times two of them together with the third at the keyboards, it varied. You should watch them live in las vegas. You can get the entire concert, or just pieces of it. But you get to see all the different stances, including Too Much Heaven with them singing all three at the microphone.

Barry finally cemented his status as an immortal falsetto legend on the triumphant Spirits Having Flown Tour 1979. No one could sing as high with so much powerful as Barry Alan Crompton Gibb. If you have not watched, how can you mend a broken heart the documentary about their lives you must do this. You are right when you say there was dissension between the brothers. Barry and Robin fought a lot. They broke up in 1970 because they were fighting over who was going to get the a side of the record. Barry will tell you that Maurice was always in the middle of the feuding. He then performed the song called “man in the middle”, because he was always the peacemaker between the brothers. Life is too short. Barry will tell you he was fighting with each of his brothers when each one passed.

Most of the problems were in the late 60s when Robin briefly left. They had issues with Andy before he passed because of his drinking. He had given up drugs but still drank heavily. His problem with Robin was over their different ways of grieving after Mo passed. Robin changed the wording of Wish you were here and sang it after Mo's death. All 3 of them wrote the original for Andy when he passed. Barry said he would never understand why Robin did that. If you listen to the words Robin sang I understand why he did. It was how he felt at the time. All 4 said that was the best night of their life and it was that night it was decided that Andy would join them.

I agree. I think those were Robin's personal lyrics for Andy. I think he changed it because he wanted to respect Barry and the original song. Andy was getting ready to join his brothers but became sick with a virus to his heart, no cure and passed away. Barry as a toddler knocked over a pot of hot water on him. Barry Gibb had over 3 octave range, which is crazy. You were right they still sounded great live. Barry and Andy, oldest and youngest both had solo careers, gotta think that could cause conflict. But all were wildly talented, nothing like sibling harmonies.
@susieq9801
@susieq9801 Жыл бұрын
Robin also had amazing range and a solo career. He had very successful LP's (mainly in Europe since The Bee Gees were blacklisted in the US after the disco era due to overexposure) , "Walls have eyes", "How old are you", "Magnet", "Secret Agent" and the posthumous "60 St Catherines Drive" as well as "Robin's Reign" that he did when 19 during their split. Music critics said he had a 4 to 5 octave range and amazing vibrato and all the brothers could sing falsetto as well. Maurice had a wide range from baritone to falsetto but did not do a lot of solo work although he helped Robin produce and compose his LP's and was vital to The Bee Gees as the best musician and an amazing harmonist.

Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3zHc4mBmLiGidk which is kind of a duet with Barry. And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ_MiYaebNuKiKs Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXnCm2xmm6h8oZY, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJerhoZrgstjZrM. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4Wcp4V-iLyBmM0. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXKXdHykedOHoZo. I think Andy like being able to roam the stage and sing with each of his brothers instead of being tied to one spot. This was still the day of wired mics and guitars so they didn't roam much from their spot at all, plus roaming around would mess up the lighting plan if they wandered out of their light. I love Robin but you don't want to get to close to him when he's dancing! You might catch an elbow if he's really into it! Probably why Andy kept a good distance between them! For future concert reaction try Bee Gees and Chuck Berry doing Johnny B Good or Reeling, Rocking, and Rolling. Both are from the official Midnight Special channel and are a lot of fun! This was early 70's Bee Gees in the lull between their initial success in the late 60's and comeback in the mid 70's. The 1989 Melborne concert is also great live performances and the medley segment is a great one to react to.

BeeGees been legit since the 60's! A deep dive on them is definitely worth it. My favorites go back to before they wrote this song and others for the movie, Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta. They wrote alot of songs for other artists. Please react to "Words" and "Alone". They're beautiful songs. Thank you for reacting to them.

Always love seeing this live performance, so awesome that they got to sing together in concert. All four brothers so awesome. It was often ssid that Robin only liked to sing in concert and while in studio writing and recording, while the other three would play and sing together just for the fun of it.

Andy was my teen crush! He died from myocarditis ( likely attributed to his cocaine abuse for several years). These brothers are among the best of the best. They've written thousands of songs. They have many duets with other artists. They wrote some of the most iconic songs for other artists as well. They're just phenomenal!

This live performance is out in the open air whilst 'Too much Heaven' was performed in an enclosed space, so the sound quality would be different. They have made quite a number of live appearances on talk shows with just their guitars and their voices always sounded so amazing like the studio version.

@@MugnifyRTS the Gibb family is very interesting, they grew up together. They were really close. They started out since they were little Andy always felt left out because he was the youngest and Robin and Maurice. They were always close and Barry felt closer to andy his look alike. He was the oldest so he was the one that’s always watching out for them.. did you know that when Barry was little he reached over and grabbed a pot of tea and it spilled all over him and he was in the hospital for like two or three months something like that, and he couldn’t speak for two years, the trauma, and look at him now singing nice. But they’re close family.. their dad was a drummer on a group back in the day too.
