Great song, one of my favorites. Love how Robin and Barry switch up on lead. So sad to see the Twin Towers standing and know that Maurice would be gone in the fear future. It's a reminder to take in every moment in the now. Nothing lasts forever. 😇😢😭

@@renep2220 I watched a video of Robin performing his song "Please". It took place a couple of weeks after Maurice died. I believe it was in Germany. His eyes told a story of how he was feeling; seemingly a mixture of sadness and weariness. Like the analogy of the Twin Towers, the Gibb Twins fell; one not long after the other.

The Bee Gees always had two lead singers. Two of their earliest hits were "I Started A Joke" and "Massachusetts" with Robin singing lead on both songs while other songs Robin and Barry both shared the lead. I think it's one of the things that was a contentious issue with two strong male lead singers who both wanted to be THE lead. Robin did have solo projects including 8 solo albums and 2 live albums. They were very versatile and changed with the times, reinventing themselves more than once in their career. Maurice sings lead on "Man in the Middle" and you may want to check that one out too! This was such a great song and I didn't care what genre they wrote and sang in because they always gave it their best and that was top notch.

Robin produced a very powerful album before his death in 2012 with his son Robin-John called "Titanic Requiem" a tribue to the sinking of the Titanic. The song "Don't Cry Alone" (Robin singing) was played at his funeral, I believe.

The Bee Gees could and did sing ANY genre! Robin SHOULD be acknowledged. For my money he had the best voice in the group and both Maurice and Barry said so too. His voice had a vibrato (the trembling sound) that was unmatched. He sang many leads in the 60's (including their first UK #1), early '70's and again after 1980. Barry is more known due to the '75 to '80 disco era since that was their best selling period. Often when people think Barry is singing they are both singing together but their voices blended like soft butter. Notice Maurice has some lead in this song too. There were three singers and composers in this group and all had terrific voices. Some others here like Jacob Griffin have offered suggested songs with him as lead. Robin also had a successful solo career in Europe. As for a "Michael" vibe, these guys were singing when Jackson was in diapers, LOL.

Great reaction...try listening to "Massachusetts" or "I Started A Joke", Robin sings lead in both. Before you talk about genre and style, listen to some of the early stuff...like from the 60's. Try "To Love Somebody" from 1967. They wrote it for Otis Redding who, sadly, died in a plane just before he was scheduled to record it. Great Song....I think you'd like it a lot.

I think you mentioned Robin singing falsetto during this performance around 3:17? This song is in his natural range some of the higher notes you hear him hit are head voice. Robin didn't sing lead in falsetto very often. He sings the verses in falsetto on "Living Together" if you would like check that song out. Also Maurice has a smooth, deeper voice that he uses very well on lead for "Closer Than Close"

Yes the Bes Gees considered themselves R& B singers also. It was part of what they did. They sang it ALL. If you've ever listened to the song that they wrote for Otis Redding in 1967, To Love Somebody. Otis died in a plane crash before he could sing it. He was the Soul Singer of his time.

Love your reaction! Robin had a beautiful voice. There are actually quite a few songs (dozens) that Robin sung lead or co-lead. In 1969-1970, Robin left the Bee Gees to go out on his own because he was upset that their manager wanted Barry to always sing lead. Robin felt that he was being pushed into the background. The Robin did end up rejoining the Bee Gees of course. I think lot of this struggle stemmed from the fact that when the Bee Gees started, Barry was the 'big brother' and Robin and Mauris were young kids. Here's two videos of them performing when the twins were 10 and 13 years old. I think these show the big brother position that Barry held in the early years of their career. Your reviews are usually spot on. I agree, if you watch many of the Bee Gee videos Robin is singing along WITH Barry. I think his voice added depth and richness to Barry's voice. Although many give Barry credit as the lead singer, people forget or simply don't know that Robin's as lead singer was instrumental in getting the group off the ground. I think the break up taught Robin that you sometimes have to play along to get along. Also many of the Bee Gees most beautiful songs were never released, like "Sensuality". If you like Robin on lead in Bodyguard, you'll love Sensuality.

The song had two things going against it. The original video got a little too heated for MTV and it was banned. In those days if you did not have a successful video on MTV your song did not do as well. Also, the single was only released on cassette when CDs were the biggest sellers at that time. I believe that's why the song only peaked at #9 on the Hot 100 instead of the #1 spot.

Just discovered Bodyguard and it is SO smooth to listen to. Gentle, loving and without Barry taking over this lovely song. Robin so tender and lovingly sung.
