@@remital6834 Agreed, but there is some solo etiquette to follow, she could have pause before of after to please the requirements, but instead she cut into it 3 times and spoke over it, no matter how important she thinks the comment is, it can wait til after the solo. This is what annoys the purists.

"I'd Rather Go Blind" is a blues song written by Ellington Jordan and co-credited to Billy Foster and Etta James. It was first recorded by Etta James in 1967, released in 1967, and has subsequently become regarded as a blues and soul classic.

IMO the same can be said of Joe. That sweet telecaster adding in distortion at will is both a reflection of her singing style (in my opinion more Janis than Etta) and the rare ability to just realize all the potential sonic beauty of a specific instrument.

She deserves many more accolades. I'm sure you know, but for those who don't, Beth struggled with substance abuse early in her career which essentially derailed her popularity train. It's both a curse, and a blessing. Rather than getting a commercial version of her, we get the authentic version. I do hope she makes it big. Her voice has only gotten better over the years.

Not to mention both songs use the same chords. Tennessee Whiskey uses just A and Bm. Same with I’d Rather Go Blind but also throws an E near the end of each verse. Several reviewers have noticed similar feels. These chord progressions certainly add to that.

Beth and Joe did a number of albums together before this performance. They are all worthy of a listen and VERY bluesy. Nobody covers Etta James like Beth. That being said, Joe can sing too!! I have been blessed to see Joe live several times. And it is always a spiritual "go to church" experience. One of the best ever!! Thank God for people like these two who have made it their life mission to give us music.

Thank you. She does remind me of Etta. In the bad old days when there was no money in music, even if you were a star, you could go and see Etta for a cover charge that was less than the cost of a beer, but she would still sing her guts out for the audience. When the snow was blowing outside, and the roads were nearly impassable, the five or six of us that would show up early in the week would sit at the bar with the band and hear stories about the abuse coming from the booking system that made it difficult for such great musicians to make a living. Albert's Hall in Toronto would book her several weeks per year. I would finish my nap and take the subway to the venue and meet friends or coworkers a few nights of the week. I would leave before the last act and get to be so that I could get to work by 5:30 am. After I put in my 10-12 hours, I would go and take the nap and do it again. She once asked me if I was gay because one of the players noticed that I left before the 'red dress' or 'blue dress' ladies at my table. I had to explain that some of us had to work very long hours because we had mortgages that we were trying to get rid of before we could get married and start raising families. Being a young idiot, I never considered how insensitive that was. While the musicians appreciated the fans that showed up over and over again, some of us were able to earn a great deal of money than they could. The young guys I would go to see her with were not particularly well educated but were very skilled mechanically and worked at a place where they could work as much overtime as they wanted. Three or four years of sacrifice would set up a person for life and would mean a comfortable life. When Etta died, she had a net worth of about half that of the kids I used to see her with. In my case, I paid off that mortgage in six years and finally chose to find a good woman and raise a family that I would be with as much as I could. Many of the great players that entertained us remained broke and never got the chance at a life of stability that most of us have. Some of the bad outcomes were due to cultural and dependence issues, but a lot came down to the environmental conditions created by a system that had too much control over artists.

She collaborated with Joe Bonamassa on this album and two others. Together they are magical. Joe makes his guitar sing and makes you feel it like Beth does singing, This entire concert is on video and amazing, You are correct in she is a physical performer and puts her all into every song.
