As the title notes “Guitar Greats” she is one of THE best slide guitarists around. She’s not only known for that but she studied with the OG blues musicians who have long since passed away. She fought to get them recognized and remunerated for their music. She did a lot to revive blues and recognized the founding fathers and mothers. Love your reactions!!

You cracked me up when you said "I didn't know she could play the guitar!" Bonnie is probably one of the best if not the best slide guitar player alive today & an absolute master of playing blues guitar. This rabbit hole is deep as she has been at it for over 50 years!

I was at a concert in KC when Bonnie had gotten her slide stolen from the concert the night before in Hayes. She was pissed. Then the next year she was back in KC when someone returned her lost slide. She was overjoyed and spent the night giving us a serious lesson in blues slide for an hour or so extra. I LOVE BONNIE!!!

Bonnie Raitt is in that great exquisite club of blues guitarist!! Buddy Guy the hero to all of them played with her two years ago. Blues has been my thing since I was eight, (71 now) great to hear it in 2023. Keep on listening, It just makes us all richer. Rb

I once had the pleasure of listening to a Bonnie Raitt rehearsal at a club, during which one of the musicians had hit a wrong note and she stopped the band to highlight with her voice the difference between a major and a minor (blues) 7th. Nothin' else - just her voice - singing one, then the other. They're only a half step apart on the scale, but the clarity of her voice, the purity of her pitch was...well, Heavenly. Just the memory of it is humbling.

You apparently haven’t met Bonnie, yet. The blues are her roots, the slide is her tool, and the soul oozes from her vocal cords. She’s musical royalty, historian of the flame. You MUST hear her and Sippy Wallace sing the duet of DON’T ADVERTISE YOUR MAN. Then you’ll understand much, much better. Bonnie once told a Rolling Stone reporter at an LA party in the 70s, “I don’t think there’s a face here I haven’t sat on”.

Bonnie is a legend, she has so much great music to dive into. The slide is the thing on the finger of her left hand. That's what she uses to contact the strings, it allows for a far greater range of sound than finger fretting does. It could be many different types but a bottle neck slide is exactly what it sounds like.

I met her once and was surprised at how tiny she is - I'm 5'3" and she was tiny even to me, lol. Saw her play live the next night and the power of her voice, coming out this tiny woman, was just incredible. I've been a huge fan of hers since I first heard her back in the 80s. Not only is she a great singer/guitarist, etc. but she's a huge humanitarian and has been an advocate for old school blues artists to get the rights to their music and royalties they'd been cheated out of. She's a really awesome person.

I hate they cut out the entire second verse for this performance. The song loses a lot of meaning without it. Basically, the second verse tells how the "southern belle" steals his heart, and then proceeds to get him drunk, bleed him of all his money, and then ghosts him. Also "Dixie Chicken" and "Tennessee Lamb" are just terms of affection.
